One month later, all three cats are still using the robot with no issues.

I'm afraid Tootie will be afraid of it. He has an electronic toy that he runs from. I've had it for a year and I keep bringing it out and he keeps running from it. These are too expensive to chance that he will like it 😢

Here’s the thing…it is NOT natural or instinctive for cats to use something that they cannot cover or mark their scent. Cats generally don’t even like using others litter boxes. A cats natural instinct is to cover their scent . I would never force or torture my cats to use something that is not natural to their instincts or natural habit. Then get a dog, you don’t understand cats!

I just bought one for my blind cat and received it last Friday. I haven't cleaned his old box since Saturday. I've coaxed him part way in with tuna and treats (He's a big cat). He knows it's there and what it's for, so if he doesn't use it in a day or two, I am tempted to take the old one out.

@@Monipenny1000 if you’ve tried all the other tricks that’s what I’d do. One thing I did that may have helped was I bought a couple catnip mice and placed them on the steps leading into the robot. Maybe try that before taking the other one away.

@@stevelee7078 my cat didn't care for catnip when I've bought it a long time ago for him. I have a friend who has some kind of attractant that she was supposed to bring to me yesterday, don't know when I'll get it, but waiting on that to try. In the mean time, with the old litter box getting full, my cat peed on my carpet next to my bed this evening.

Hi Miyah. If you're speaking in terms of acclimating your cat to the Litter-Robot using a scoop of the old litter, the paper doesn't necessary have to come along. Even if you can just get their waste into the unit, that should work just as well.

@@LitterRobot he did it! I took a risk and removed the old litterbox. It had gotten pretty gross , but he was still using it. He used the Litter Robot twice today and didn't leave me any surprises in the laundry room. This was Day 25.

Try showing him the cleaning cycle a few times while he is in the room. Or cycle it every morning so he gets use to it.

@@LitterRobot, yeah, I'm not sure I see the point. Are there suggestions Litter-Robot has that aren't on the internet? Because suggestions are every place and I've tried all of them. My current attempt is using Dr. Elszey's Cat Llitter Attract. Even added in the additive to make it even more attractive to the cats. Still nothing. The half shell idea might not work with the current Cat Litter robot, but I think that would be a very helpful redesign. Pop off the top to use it as an open air litter box and then add the lid when they're comfortable with it. I think the Litter Robot is very intimidating to cats who have always used an open air litter box.

Hi Paul...I just wanted to add that my cats aren't using it either and their normal litter box is one with a top on it. So that might not even be the reason your cat isn't using it.

A 2 1/2 month update. Until a week ago, I was ready to pack it up and send it back. Only 1 of my 4 cats was using the Litter Robot and even she had almost completely stopped. One week period, in mid-December the Litter Robot was used 6 times, less than 1 time a day. I had tried every idea that Litter Robot and others had suggested. Nothing. They were not even slightly interested. I was down to my final attempt...doing something Litter Robot specifically said not to do. One by one, I moved the cats five open air litter boxes out of my house and into the garage. (There is a cat door from the house into the garage.) The first week, it didn't make any difference. They still chose to use a traditional litter box, even if it meant going out of their way to the garage to use it. Hopeless. Then suddenly hope. They started using the Litter Robot. Usage is now increasing daily. They will soon hit 10 per day. It's not been perfect. My one male cat is nowhere near using it. (Insert joke here about stubborn males.) And I think one of my female cats has barely used it at all. But these are also the two cats who spend a lot of time outside and I'm fine with them going in my yard if that's what they want to do. The two almost strictly indoor cats are using the Litter Robot probably exclusively now. I'm one happy camper. I loved the product, but the cats didn't...but now they seem to be FINALLY taking to it. I still think there are design changes that could be made. I think a redesign so you can use it as an open air litter box for training purposes would be good. I don't think cats accustomed o using unenclosed litter boxes easily adopt to one that is enclosed Another design suggestion is to give the cats an exit in the back of the unit. My cats like to jump each other and I think being trapped in the unit while another cat waits to jump him or her when the cat comes out of the unit is a problem.

Hi Quentin! Here are some tips we’ve heard from others who have experienced this issue: 1. Hang a washer/quarter/similar from a string at the inside opening of the globe. Make sure it is at a level where it will touch your cat's hind end when she enters the globe. This should cause her to turn around inside the globe because most cats do not like their rear ends touched. 2. Similarly, watch for your cat to enter the globe and then touch her hind-end as she gets inside. This should cause her to turn around inside the globe. 3. Watch for your cat to enter the globe and then put a treat on the outside ledge to get her to turn around. With any of these methods, she should get into the habit of turning around after a few times. I hope one of these does the trick for you!

As with any unique behavior, it's never a bad idea to visit the vet to rule out any potential health issues. Additionally, each unit does come with a 90-day in-home trial, just in case.

You can’t blame the cat! And you don’t need a vet! It is not a natural habitat for a cat to relive itself in a machine. They prefer a natural product and then cover their scent. In fact , indoor outdoor cats would sooner use the outdoors to go to the bathroom if having a choice. If your cat withholds from using it, it can lead to health problems.

@@DanenaeI’m sorry to say they have not. One of my cats is so afraid of the entire room where the robot is, he won’t even use the other litter box I put for him and has soiled in the house daily. I just removed the robot and put the old boxes back the way they were. My other cat is still afraid of the noise and won’t use it. My 3rd cat is so unafraid that she rides it around while it’s cleaning. Such different personalities.

@@Danenae The cat that won’t use it is mostly blind. He is scared of noises because he can’t see what it is. I would put him in the robot and he would go but won’t climb in himself. Since I took the robot out of the room, he has started using his litter box to urinate but I’m picking up Pooh in rooms every day. I don’t know how to get him to get back to using it like he was. Never had a problem before.

We do not recommend that kittens or cats that weigh 5 pounds or less use the Litter-Robot in the unattended automatic mode. Their low weight may not activate the cat sensor. Cats should weigh at least 5 pounds before using the Litter-Robot in automatic mode. We recommend leaving the Litter-Robot off and operating in “semi-automatic” mode. When you see your cat has used the Litter-Robot, turn it on, and the Litter-Robot will automatically perform a clean cycle. Once it finishes (about 2 ½ minutes), turn the power off. This way, your kitten is safe while it gets accustomed to the Litter-Robot at a young age, and you don’t have to scoop the litter box!

I used this with 2 kittens and you have to make sure that the auto mode is off if you have other cats bc it can start cycling from a previous use while the kitten using the litter robot.

Hello! Pellets may be too large to pass through the sifting screen, which prevents the litter sifting system from working properly. Additionally, plant-based litters tend to form looser clumps than alternatives. This can cause condensation in the waste drawer, which causes more odor and corrosion of nearby components. If you use a plant-based litter, we recommend changing the bag and cleaning more frequently. @@LitterRobot it's not just that, the sensory isn't working. I have to physically push it for it to cycle. This is insane.

I thought it was their weight so I measured them and they are 6lbs and 7lbs. The litter robot says they have to be 5lbs. I personally have to walk to the litter robot and press the cycle button. This is very stressful.

I know this comment was from 7months ago, but how have your other cats adjusted to your litter robot? I have one who loves it and another who seems to be avoiding it like the plague.

HELLO @@nikkilargo ... I just got mine January 19, 2021. I also have one cat who uses it and the other one won’t. So Saturday January 23rd I put the old box in the garage. Still only one cat uses it. Monday January 25th the cat that won’t use it goes downstairs where the boxes are and MEOWS loud. Comes upstairs then back downstairs and MEOWS loud again. This happens 3 times. Then he starts looking in other places in the house for either the old litter box or for someplace to go. He really needs to go because it’s been two days now. So I cave and bring in the old box. He was in it for about 5 minutes. I removed it again. He went downstairs, looking for the old box and just came back upstairs. Did your cats finally just start using the litter robot and if so what did you do to help him go? I did treats around the box. That’s when my one that uses it started. Help!! Thanks!

@@anne461 Hi there! Yes, my second cat finally came around and is using the litter robot like normal. She was afraid of it and wouldn't go inside for about three weeks. I kept the old litter box close by and then on the third week I put some of her used litter in the bot and removed the box just to see if she'd use it. I didn't try snacks or anything. Just gave her enough space to check out the bot on her own time. The day before I took the old box away, I noticed her sniffing around the entryway of the bot. She put her head in and stepped in it without my involvement. That's when I knew she was ready to use it. I really hope your cat comes around to use your litter robot too. Good luck!!

Hi there! There are a variety of reasons that your cat may have stopped using the litter box or Litter-Robot. If it is time to clean the Litter-Robot, please use a mild detergent. Try to avoid harsh cleaners such as bleach. The Litter-Robot Globe can be fully submerged in a bathtub or laundry tub-there are no electronic components in the globe that can be damaged. When the weather permits, you can also use a garden hose outside and let the sun dry the globe after cleaning. We like to use a soft toilet brush to easily access the inside of the globe. Once you're finished cleaning the globe, be sure that it is completely dry before adding litter. If it is not dry, the litter will clump prematurely and may get clogged in the ports or litter pocket. The Litter-Robot Base, however, should never be submerged or sprayed because it houses all the electronic components. Please use a damp cloth or sponge to carefully wipe down the base.
