I up-cycle an old trashed blank and other bits and pieces that were destined for the rubbish tip into a new surfboard and then attempt to see if it will even surf.
The final dimensions came close to 5'4x21x ?
Big thanks to my mate Jacob for being the test pilot.

Thanks mate. This was an experiment at best. I was hoping the paint would hide the hideous scars in the foam but it didn’t. So I went with a yellow tint and that also didn’t. So last resort I though fck it and made it look trashy. I mean it already did haha

Many thanks great vids.
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. I used gorilla glue although the wrong one, as it was all I could find. You want to use the brown honey type expanding poly one that gorilla glue make. It does dry slightly harder than the foam but you can still shape it. I’ve reshaped a bunch of old shapes so it’s definitely worth a crack.

Great effort. I found a broken longboard that I want to make into a mini Simmons. Is there a good method to peeling all the fiber glass off? Thinking of shallow cuts and pry with putty knife?
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. It’s always better to try upcycle rather than just throw it out. To get the glass off you can use a dremel or jigsaw and cut very thinly along the rails. From there you can pry up. You will lose some foam so try to make sure the shape you’re attempting to get out of the broken board has enough space to allow for the lost foam. Good luck 🤙

super video as always I love the jokes and the fun you put into them. I just finshed my first board and your videos and addvice helped a lot so thank you very much. how long do you let the board cure before you do the cut lap?
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. It depends on a lot of factors so generally I’ll give it a few hours and then test to see if it’s ready to cut. You don’t want to try to earlier as it’ll be too green. With 4oz you can even get away with doing it next day. It’s just the nose and tail overlaps that become too hard to cut
@ZAGSurfboards
@ZAGSurfboards 2 жыл бұрын
As Shrednaught says.. next day even. Nose and tail where the glass overlaps, you can give a quick buzz down with a sander, to make cutting that area easier. (recent build i left it 2 days and did this.. works A-ok).

@@Shrednaught hahaha about time.. After Nick showing me the error of my ways.. :P I do feel futures lead the way with variety of fin choice, and even the box design.. having the flanges front and back do help with preventing that box sinking (like fcs2 are prone to do). But when they do go.. they make a mess.

Yo sick vid! About to make my first board... have you got any tips as to where to place the fin box in terms of how far up it is from the tail? planning to do a 7ft rounded pintail, with a single fin. Cheers
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. Depends on the box size you’re using but a good range is anywhere between 6-8 inch up from tail. If you have the fin you can use that as a guide as well. What looks right to the eye generally works 🤙

sick. is it necessary to glass it with yellow resin after spray painting it yellow? cheers
@Shrednaught
@Shrednaught 2 жыл бұрын
Na not at all man. I was attempting to get a full yellow so you couldn’t see all the stains and stuff on the blank.. but it didn’t work so I did the patina . If you want a real deep rich colour though doing a foam stain before the colour lam can help achieve that.

What kind of masking tape do you use for the cut lap? I've struggled to find a masking tape that sticks well to PU foam on the few glass jobs I've done. Great content by the way! Keep up the great work!

You definitely need to use the highest of quality tape. I use 3m 233+ and only that. There are a couple different types available depending on location but that is the standard needed 🤙 Also make sure all dust is off the blank before taping and push the tape down firm with the back of a razor. You should be sweet.

What kind of top coat do you apply at the end with a roll on and that gives such a cool looking matte finish? Is it Poly? Did you sand after that last top coat to get the matte finish? Cheers

Clear acrylic sealer. I just give it a light buff with 360+ grit to take the dust grit out and give it a matte finish
