• Wood chipper & Log spl... - Wood chipper & Log splitter - BUILD
Some of you may remember that I've done similar machines before. The first one was not successful, and the second one I sold some time ago.
I decided to build a third version because such a device is always useful at a country house. I also have a lot of things that are needed to do wood chipper, so the whole project should not be expensive.
The housing is made of a steel flat bar 12 mm thick, making it very strong and stiff.
Large UCF208 bearings should also handle overloads without any problems.
The blades are sharpened at an angle of about 60 degrees. The material they are made of is so hard that I could only cut it with an angle grinder. You can forget about drilling in this.
All screws are hardness grade 8.8. For extra safety I put a spring washer under each screw.
The mechanism will most likely be driven by 3kW / 4Hp electric motor and transmission, which will reduce the rotation of the mechanism to 200 rpm.
The weight of the mechanism is about 34 kg / 75lbs

THE PLANS
for this mechanism (and all others) are available to all patrons who support our channel for $3 or more.

Hi everyone :) In this video I showed how to made a "heart" of wood chipper. In the next video (if everything goes well) I will show you how to do the rest and describe what and how I will do the drive system, etc. If you have any questions, please check the video description first. There is a lot of information and maybe you will find there an answer :)

I feel like you might have made the blades to long. You will need a lot of torque. But im just guessing.

If you angled the two side plates at the top, @ 45 deg, giving part octagon shape, you would use less material for the top plate, and there would be no corners to hold debris. Also, a flat wedge shaped plate pointing outwards, at the entry to the blades, would give an edge for the blades to cut against, like a guillotine, which may improve efficiency. I liked the project, and the construction.

It will be powered by a gear motor that will give me 200 rpm. The same speed will be in the mechanism and everything will be connected with v-belts. Even if something happens, the speed will be low that the blades will stay inside and the belts will start to slide. I've already made a few wood chippers, so I think I know what I'm doing :)

Have you experienced any issues with working for a long time? I guess this cutter could run hot enough to hit itself because the blade expand 🤔 I think two blades from top and bottom overlapping 1 cm but have a space between them could fix this potential flaw.

Does the steel you are using for blades have enough carbon to be able to harden maybe take 2 off cuts and heat them until they are no longer magnetic then quench 1 in oil and 1 in water then put one end in your vice and try to bend if they brake not bend then harden and temper your blades
