Excellent words to share. What made drawing start to click for me was a professor who said, "a drawing is how we record visual information. Each mark should carry some information about the subject being drawn. Make sure they are all intentional." This kept me from just scribbling random lines, and made me think about what each mark I made could communicate to the viewer. Adapting the perspective of a visual stenographer, along with many of your videos, has really helped me improve beyond what I ever though possible.

Please never end this channel! I love learning new art techniques in here.♥️ you’re doing way better than what my art teacher could ever accomplish. She’s so bad! She’s jealous of me and she threatened me once. Thank god I got outta there before she could do more damage to my self esteem.

Absolutely ingenious. In every field you get a bunch of excellent craftsmen and a handful of those, who go beyond the craft - those are the people who take the whole field a step further and Steve Huston is definitely one of them.

Jeff Watts believes that a good artist is a highly intuitive artist, but Steve Houston is the Why guy and he’s a damn great artist! Food for thought... I bought his book on Amazon (two days ago), before I’ve seen that interview. Can’t wait to have it shipped now )). Спасибо за такой качественный контент, Станислав! Вы умница! Ваш Инстаграм тоже - такая находка!

Thank you for this interview. His words give me comfort and strength to continue evolving the way I am. I have had other artists criticized me for not adhering to styles they are copying. I’m not against this but I do try to draw and color the feeling I’m trying to convey in my art work Along with, always working on improving my drawing skills. Thanks Proko. Your videos are always educational and helpful. 👩🏽‍🎨

Thanks Stan and Steve- this is brilliant and extremely helpful. I like 'editorialist vs. journalist', there is a balance there for me between drawing what something is and what it looks like to me. I don't want just a photograph of my subject, nor do I want just the child's symbol for it either. Now things get very interesting in that space as choices are to be made.

Love the story about N.C. Wyeth (2:08) painting a man reaping the fields with a scythe, and later he felt the same tension the man felt in his own back, like a method actor. Can anyone find the original quote? I'd like to share it with my students!

What this guys saying makes me think about how I always make weird faces when drawing expressions. Hes right, when you get into art, you almost act it out in a way.
@bozmundarts2614
@bozmundarts2614 3 жыл бұрын
yeah when we try to act, we're gonna over exaggerate or look ridiculous, because we dont have the context to understand the both the emotional expression through why and where it comes from, now, if we call out visual language, which is how we make art because of being the supreme personal statement as it can be caught by anyone who sees it (our primary tool to catch information, is our eyes) so, we gotta understand what we see to make the statements we want to come through clear, truthful emotionally therefore beautiful...

This video deserves a tutorial! Take unfinished pieces and make them “gallery worthy.” It’s by far the biggest struggle I have. I have stacks of unfinished work - how do you add those final marks that makes it feel finished? And how the heck can you know when it’s finished? 🙄🥲 help!

How do you decide who to interview? Do you reach out to specific illustrators personally? I would love to see an interview with Terese Nielsen or other fantasy illustrators. (Her process in particular is really fascinating to me with amount of layering and mediums she uses. Would love to see a video).

The idea of being a slave to the system if you don't critically think and find some reason at the start is a very powerful thing to remeber. Such a simple thing to keep yourself from just painting without reason

well.. The question in the title was hardly answered.. Also I'm the intuitive guy and I'd argue a lot with the monologue guy. I could even acuse the intelect of his to do exactly the thing of copying. That's what the intelect does, what the mind does. It's a copy machine. Also the though like I'd change that, I'd synthesise that into smth new - a though like that. Where does it come from? Isn't that an intuition? I totaly agree with the thing about crossing borders, leaving into unknown, leaving systems, regulations - you gotta draw like that, specyficaly. But then how does one draw. He comes into the new from the point of intuition exactly, not mind. I'd say You, sir are more intuitive then You think, You just don't describe it well here.

So Picasso was making a lot of marks while he was thinking of something else, because most of his millions of dollars worth of crap looks like garbage to me and I'm still baffled at some of the expensive rubbish the art cartel is telling people art is, I mean, these mind bending pieces are in museums and capital cities art galleries all over the world. Art is not drawing, and drawing is not art.
