No there is no look inside feature and, currently videos are not supported, just images.

Awesome, Keith! Thank you very much! Can you make a video on how to order author copies from the three main platforms, KDP, Ingram, and Barnes & Nobles? It would be very helpful. Do you know if Ingram and Barnes delivers in unlimited copies of the author? Or is there a limit?

This is a great idea for a video! There are typically limits. I believe the limits are 999. But it’s been a while since I bought in bulk.

At the moment, yes. Though, obviously, things may change. But, hey, it's free so nothing hurt if they change the policy down the road.

Hi Keith, this is great! Just so I understand, you order and receive the author copies from KDP, then ship the physical product to customers? Have you found the turn around time to be acceptable? Many thanks.

Not exactly. I order the author copy and have it shipped directly to the customer. Unless I have an option for a signed copy, then I have to ship it to myself first, then I sign and then ship it to the customer. In cases like that, they typically expect a longer turn around time.

Ah.. that’s great! So we can ship ‘authors copies’ from KDP direct to a different address than our own. I thought authors copies could only be shipped to the address on file for the account. Great to hear that’s not the case. Thanks so much for this information. Love this. Would like to know more. 😊. If I don’t have a presence on social media as yet, any suggestions how to drive traffic to the new shop?

Okay... But how do you actually fulfill the orders? Do you have copies on hand and manually snail mail them? Do you turn around and order them from Amazon to the customers house? Huge piece of information missing here.

Excellent questions. If you have copies on hand, you can definitely ship them out yourself. For me, however, I save my on hand merchandise for my in person events (author signings, trade shows, etc) What I like to do is simply turnaround and take that placed order and order an author copy through kdp, Ingramspark or Lulu depending on the book type and then, instead of shipping to my house, I have it shipped directly to the customer. If the platform has the option, I mark it as a gift.

No, the customer would place the order, then you would order the author copy from your platform of choice(KDP, Lulu, etc.) and have the author copy sent to the customer's address.

It really just comes down to setting expectations up front. First, I suggest shipping your author copy directly to the customer, instead of to you, then to them. Also, if you're noticing long shipping times(ie. during the holidays), just update your description to have a note at the bottom that due to delays in the postal services, shipping may take longer than expected. @@KeithWheelerBooks I am lost on how to get a copyright. I am currently watching your video, how to make a children’s book, and it’s absolutely wonderful by the way, and you state that you have a copyright page. How do I get that? Do I need to apply for a copyright to my books?

Technically, the moment you put your book to digital format, it’s copyrighted. That said, common law copyright is hard to prove in a court of law, since file creation dates can be digitally altered. So, what most authors do to cover their backsides, is they file a formal copyright request through the government entity in their country. In the US, it’s done through the Library of Congress. You can go to their website and file for a copyright there. There is a fee involved, so, you’ll have to determine if the fee is worth it to you, to get the legal copyright filed, or if you’re fine with the common law copyright. In either case, you can create a copyright page in your book. I hope this helps.

Great video. I am still unclear about the shipping. Do they print and ship like Amazon? How does the book get to the buyer? Do we upload our books there?

No, this is just a customer facing store. When an order comes in, you’ll need to actually order the book. So, you’d go into kdp(or whatever platform you published through) and order an author copy. Instead of having the author copy mailed to you, you’ll have it mailed to the customer’s address. I hope this helps explain things better.

Actually, either way works. I mostly work through print on demand, so when an order comes in, I can just purchase an author copy through the POD platform and then have it shipped to the customer’s address. Better yet, if you have a VA(virtual assistant), they can do the manual part for you.

Hi Keith! I know that you publish on Amazon KDP because I have been following you for a long time on KZfaq and you are one of my favorites. I actually wanted to know on which other platforms you publish online stores more specifically (if you want to tell me). I would also like to know if you publish your puzzle books on Ingram Spark and if you have good results on this platform with these kinds of books. Thank you very much for everything!

My apologies for just now responding, KZfaq changed things so responses to comments are harder to find. Anyway, to answer your question I publish some of my puzzle books thru lulu as spiral bound. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t allow you to directly sell the spiral bound on their platform, so I only use them for niches where I get traffic to the brands website. IngramSpark doesn’t really like low content books, so I haven’t published my puzzle books through that avenue yet. But I may look into that a bit more in the near future. Keith, So if we did our own site does that mean I have to keep products in my house and mail them out myself. Wouldn’t Amazon be upset that they aren’t getting any money?

You could keep products in your house, but the easiest thing to do is, when an order comes in, place an order on KDP for an author copy and then mail the author copy to the customer.

You have no obligations to Amazon. The only exclusivity agreement you could have with KDP is if you enrolled your ebook in KDP Select program. But even then, that exclusivity only pertains to the digital version(aka the ebook), paperbacks and hardcovers can be sold on other platforms, including your own site.

Yeah, shipping can be quite stressful. It's hard to do a video on the most "cost effective" tips as what's cost effective for me in the states, may not be cost effective to someone overseas. But I'll try to put something like that together.
