I notice that you're playing a P-bass in a video which is about ergonomics. Coincidence? I don't think so. I'm 63 years and I took up bass again several years ago. I bought a short scale Mustang PJ bass because it's lightweight, has a 1.5" nut width and pairs well with flatwound strings which I like. Short scale basses are supposedly more suited for shorter guys (5'-5'") with shorter arms and smaller hands like myself and I find that to be somewhat true. My first issue was neck dive. Your bass has that classic bass angle. My bass wanted to hang slightly lower than parallel to the floor. I replaced the tuners with lightweight tuners. It helped the bass hang slightly above parallel, but my bass still doesn't hang like your bass. My second issue is with the slab body. It seems counterintuitive to resting the forearm flat. I guess that's another one of the many qualities that made Leo Fender so great. Because he wasn't a musician himself, he listened closely to what musicians were telling him. As much as I like this bass, I might have to sell it. Fender just came out with a 70s Mustang bass which has the "modern" contoured body, but it still has a shorter horn and an offset body which might not be as comfortable as a P-bass and it might still have neck dive. Do you have any thoughts on slab bodies, offset bodies, short and no horn bodies and whether or not short scale basses are actually easier to play for short people to play? I'm sure that spending some time in a music store is probably the stock answer, but I did that with my Mustang and it's just not the same as playing it every day. It took many months for me to figure out what I like and don't like about my bass.
