Just got the dual 18 V, 9-14' adjustable length pole saw. I gave it a trial by fire over the weekend. Yeah, its heavy, but it was worth it. I cut several limbs im prep to cut several trees down. Yes, I used a 16'' Makita dual 18V chain saw. I was having no problem with either. If you let the tool do the job, you will be amazed. I like the fact I no longer have to pull my guts out to hope the equipment starts. Install batteries, check oil, and off to the task at hand. Your ears dont ring after a day of use either. My only suggestion, buy the 6.0 AH batteries. Its worth the money in the length of use you get. Im lucky that I started using Makita tools yrs ago and I have several tools, batteries, and chargers. I agree the single 18V outdoor equipment is only meant for urban, occasional use. Once you get into the dual battery sets, you will be impressed as to the amount of work you can accomplish.

Hi Glenn!!😀😀 The battery technology has come so far in the last few years. You look at how much you can do on one battery before you clean it up. It will almost recharge in the time it takes to clean up. Get a inverter to run the charger in your truck and 2to batteries and you can almost stay busy cutting and cleaning all day. The other thing is it's quiet and no exhaust. Battery powered equipment definitely has its place. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al

So great to see this - I am looking for a used 18v power head, and chainsaw attachment. I have a recip and a 36v chainsaw for most the cutting I need - but, for the smaller jobs would be great to have this as an option. I usually set up some scaffolding, and take down the branches with a 4m hand pole saw - on a 5m scaffold …. Wrecks my back.

I think a 36v makes a huge difference though. I have a regular 36v chainsaw of makita and I will only buy a gaspowered saw for the bigger trees I actually have to fell. But I could use it every day if I wanted too. The no noise and fumes is a great benefit on electric as well. But I get your point, thanks for sharing.

Makita make awesome tools. 18 volt struggles with big stuff. But it’s lighter than the 36 volt.

It struggled with some of the big stuff but seemed to get the job done for what I'm using it for. I definitely like how lightweight it is too.

If the weight and performance of the electric is good enough it might be beneficial for some. Or if it’s a brand you’ve already invested in and you have the batteries already laying around it can make the purchase easier. I’ve got all the attachments for my gas trimmer, it just makes sense to buy a newer lighter power head one day for myself. Interchangeable attachments are great!

I bought the Makita 36v powerhead and saw, heaps of grunt and run time. Probably more suited to what you're trying to achieve in this video

Do you know what size chain it uses Glenn? I would try a 1/4" pitch .043 and see how that does.

Only concerns I would have is that batteries age and die after years of storage and will be a regular replacement item and also would it have the power of a gas and will you have the batteries to last the whole project. I would rarely use a pole saw and unlikely run it for very long when I do. so maybe an electric would be a good choice for me personally.

That is true about batteries but if you ever leave gas in a saw too long it could require a carb rebuild which is a pain. I use these batteries a lot because I have saws and drills from Makita. This is not as powerful as a gas saw but similar to what you said I don't use a pole saw very often so it will do the jobs that I need to take care of. If you have seen my other videos you know I am a strong proponent of gas chainsaws though for other jobs.

@@OldSchoolMillennial if I know I’m storing a gas powered then I’ll drain the carb especially if it has ethanol gas… definitely been watching a good bit of your videos. I’m looking at getting a 550xp and a few of your videos helped me pick it over a few other options. Love what you do!

Every home owner needs a pole saw. I'm thinking that property owners need a gas one, but like you said, it will cut!

The Makita XUX01Z 18V X2 (36V) Power Head with the new EY403MP 12-inch Pole Chain Saw attachment lasts longer and I found, cuts faster, and thicker branches. I use two 5Ah batteries.

Never used one , scared of getting one pinched up there . Be careful those limbs can hurt !

That is definitely a thought when cutting. I just have to remember to make an undercut first. You're right about those branches, it's good to where a hard hat.

I waited ten years to buy a pole saw. Makitas 36 volt is actually more expensive than the Echo 2 stroke I just purchased. My Echo is the 'greener' choice as it will last decades. How many batteries would I go through in 20 years time? Each of those batteries takes a whole lot of energy to manufacture and distribute. Not to mention the nasty waste they are when they no longer function. I do own a Makita 10" 18 volt saw. It was purchased for a very specific purpose...cutting large grapevines. It's a fine tool for that task. If I need an actual small chain saw, I have an Echo top handle with 14" bar. Had it 23 years now.
