Roger is giving me shivers with the handling of the tool and blade 😅🤪

I’ve had mine 3 years and it’s been a great saw, no problems at all.i brought it after my festool was stolen I use it for fitting kitchens and furniture and swinging doors mainly. Good work guys👍

I bought a refurbished one - only used it a couple of times but I can tell it's already brilliant for my needs.

I use the makita every day , brilliant little saw even compared to the festool (my older machine) and I use the festool 2.7m runner for long cuts , the main thing to remember is always use the correct blade thickness or you change the position of the rubber guide by cutting a little more off it, this degrades accuracy, on another note , I used a Hilti 22v cordless saw which also comes with a guide for using on the festool/makita runners , very useful. Bought one about 2 months back I have around 28 years experience in building and woodworking Never used a track saw before always had a table saw, panel saw or just a regular circular saw I built a small shop last year and really had no room for a table saw or a panel saw So I bought this track saw I bought both rails with the connector rod so I could do full rips and cross cuts A huge plus in my opinion is the portability of it From a scale of 1 to 10 ten being the best I would say it's an 8.5 You want a track saw reasonably priced and produces this in my opinion is it

Loved your review of this makita track saw, So much so, I promptly went out and bought one ...!! (And I'm very pleased with it) I accept the point that it might not have the ergonomics and slick lines of the "German models", but it's definitely "fit for purpose " you can probably tell I'm very loyal / bias to the makita brand, considering I bought my first makita cordless drill 35 years ago and to be honest they have served me well , can't remember any of their products dieing on me, truthfully most of them sprouted legs and walk off ...🤔🤔 and that's the way we normally parted company..!! (Occupational hazard for anyone working in construction..!! ) Anyway I digress, I've thought the whole series regarding the track saw review was fair and balanced and it just goes to show that there's a track saw to suit everyone's bank balance out there ...!! Decent review guys.Had mine for 5-6 years now, mainly used in kitchen fitting. I find using the scribe cut every time, even on thick material, makes a difference on the saws performance on the plunge cut. It's certainly not perfect but has served me very well and coped with all sorts of use and abuse. You are right about the slide strips on the rail though. Had to change mine not long ago and it's a pest to do. Still think I got better value for money over a festool. Mafell is a different animal all together. Keep the reviews coming👍

I recently got one of these based on this review - and very impressed c.f. ye old skill saw type rotary saw I have been using all the time to cut tops & shelves, never been happy with the cut it left. It's great to use and leaves a damn fine cut but having the extraction system means saw dust won't get on the track which does foul movement - generally cutting / working outside I haven't bothered with saw dust removal and I don't have a fancy dedicated extractor just a vacuum cleaner and duct tape .. but the solution was to blow the track clean with a (Makita) blower after every cut (if not using an extractor). Also one has to know when to stop on the track in terms of those cams keeping the saw on track. btw mine was made in the UK (I am in ZA) and 1/2 the price of the Festool equivalent

Owned this for many years. Use it to plunge through for sink and hob cutouts. Always handled the job perfectly 👌🏼 lovely true cuts. Will be going with the cordless Festool or Mafell this time around though. The Makita is fantastic for the money, absolutely nothing wrong with it but the Fezzy and Mafell are just special bits of kit.

I guess I am like many others, I have a Makita because I saw it on offer. I have no complaints about it. It Is worth mentioning that a 3m track is available, which is more reliably straight than joining shorter ones.

I run the 18v Makita track saw , it's a beast and great for kitchen carcass fabrication.

Been using my one for just about a month. Love it. Speed setting is the bomb. The indent setting is really nice. The tilt thingy, OMG. Somewhat underpowered on bevel cuts in .75", must go slow, still get burning. Put tape over hole for better dust removal, but you still get plenty of dust out the front. Blade thickness important. High quality thin blades will wander. DeWalt track saw clamps are the best. Will pop a 15 amp breaker if the vacuum is connected to same circuit on thicker cuts. 20 amps, no worries. Would love to hear about suggestions for blades for hardwood ply's...

Would you be able to review the mafell kss 300 and the bendy rail?

Good review. My only quibble is about blades. They're disposable, so I think it's reasonable to try the two tools with the same blade to see about comparative machine performance.

Hi Roger, Last year while fitting a kitchen down in deepest Dorset, my pal who's a plumber asked me to try out his track. I used it to cutting out the hole for the basin, I've always use an downcut in my jig saw, havin' use the thing I was impressed, what impressed me more was the price 99 quid from Screwfix. I went out and bought one on the strength, come with two rails and on checking it's made by Mikita. It has all the features of the one you were ratchin' on about, it dose a crack in' job, even better when I bought two screw clamps made by makita that slide down the grove in the rail, this makes the tool.. Why not show some of the cheaper brands, I refused to pay over the top just for a grey plastic Box with green trim, especially when thing go walkie on some sites. Always nice to watch others work keep it up..

Love the way Roger manhandles that thing, and scratches the blade on the guide rail. Btw; if you have any problems with the clips on the Mbox; use a litte silicone spray. makes the clips close and open a lot easier... Love the saw. Really powerfull and accurate. Only problem i have found is calibrating it. Not really easy with the calibrating screws on the bottom of the saw.

Dear Skill Builder, It would be a useful feature of your reviews if you would include all the adjusting processes required to set up a plunge saw (but basically most other tools, like a mitre saw) This Makita SP6000 has an adjusting mechanism to set the base parallel with the saw blade. Many times it is out of parallel, so setup is required. There are four philips head screws in the bottom of the base for that. I think this would be very beneficial to show in your reviews, how easy or hard it is to set up a precision tool for work, and whether some require setup or just made perfectly in the factory.

Thanks for the video guys. Would you consider mixing in the cordless track saws on the market now too or perhaps a separate video for those? The new Efficut blade that ships with the Makita 18vX2 is something you have to experience in person.

of the family of saws that come out of the same chinese factory that makes the makita this has the most bells and whistles. I use the festool at work but have a triton at home as I couldn't find a makita cheap enough and the triton blades are top quality and dirt cheap. I cut 40mm work tops for a full week to make a raised floor out of scrap materials. some ptfe spray on the rails of all saws makes a difference as does cleaning the gripper tape on the bottom.

Got the 40 volt cordless xgt haven't used it yet for the saw an 55 inch track was 1000 Canadian

This version of the Makita track saw OR the cordless/36v version..? Is the battery version powerfull enough?

What about comparing plunge saws to the fixed blade track saws. I have the makita track saw but carry around my 36v makita circular saw with the guide rail adapter as well. It's does a beautiful cut when on the track. I know other brands have circular saws that fit on the track as well. Why have 2 tools when a lot of the time 1 will do. Plunge cut is only needed for starting a cut in a sheet of material. There circular saws are easier to push as well.

I have had this saw about 6years, was good for the first few years but i have found now that the cams that keep the saw tight on the rail wear out. It does not cut at 90 degrees anymore when the marker is on on 0. The point that hinges the saw from the base plate gets clogged up with saw dust and the saw does not spring back after a cut and connecting the rails is a pain in the arse!! Im looking at the bosch or mafell next so looking forward to your review on the bosch.

I will probably end up purchasing this unit It's cheaper to purchase it from the UK pay the shipping no tax. Wanted to purchase Festool from the UK can seem to imported into the state It is cost prohibitive in the US. The only thing I've concerned with is kickback once in a while we get sloppy when we're working. Axminster has good bundle packages.

I have this saw, after seeing lots of reviews on different models and from people I went for it. Great bit of kit, I did blunt my blade cutting Laminate flooring though :( so I have replaced with a Freud, beautiful cuts! What extractor are you using? the Grey machine, not the Festool.

I bought my SP6000J almost two years ago with the Makita track. I haven't used much, so it was frustrating to find out it went out of square about a month ago. Even after squaring up, when using the track saw, even for just a 1m length, my finished cut was not square and I had to run through the table saw. So for this tool to have any value to me, I have to leave enough material to make a real cut. It went into the local support center for Makita and even they told me they got "as good as they could" as in not square. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but when spending this kind of money, I would think something as simple as being able to adjust a tool to be in square and stay there for at least a few weeks, is reasonable. I'm posting this to see if this is a rare occurrence. I'm guessing it is.

Great bit of series, been really interesting to watch and see all the plunge saws in action, in no offence, sometimes it feels like Roger is a bit biased toward the Makita one, and can't really take the obvious criticism Robin delivers which is fairly obvious from the tests being made, both lads are industry experts I'm sure! Its a two way street; there are many products that you have reviewed that I have failed to locate a U.S. distributor for. Some products you demonstrate would seem to satisfy a demand for quality which simply does not exist here.

I’ll take the Makita 6.5 over the Festool 55 any day. If you need the 77 though, well then ‘you’re at where you’re at’ now aren’t you. The Makita beats the Festool in power, in dust extraction, anti tipping, and when you add aftermarket 3d printed imperial depth gauge, arbor plug, spare blade, a square, rail end protectors, track bag, etc… you have a great saw and 55 inch track system for less than the Festool. Just my 2¢

Should it have trouble cutting 40mm mdf? I had to trim the bottom of a door and it really bogged down with it. Maybe I should’ve made 2 20mm passes as discussed? Stock new Makita blade. Edit! I adjusted the sole plate toe in. It came out of the box with about 1.5mm toe OUT, so the back of the blade was closer to the track. Tough to cut even 1” chip board, and trimming the door above was awful. After readjusting the toe in to barely anything it cuts much better. what i don't undestand is the fact probably the most common timber used is something like a 6x2 or a 4x2 but none of these track saws can cut at a 45 degree angle through them.

Having owned both the makita and festool for a few years, the makita has more power. The festool has better depth adjustment, but that is all. Both cut equally well, but neither are as good as the Mafell or Bosch.

I have this SP6000 Makita saw for about five years, and use it frequently, as a carpenter. It does struggle ripping through worktops, but only with Makita's own blade! I don't think that blade is the best anyway. Usually I use the saw with a fewer teeth Fraud blade, and with that, there is no problem cutting worktops. Just to give a clue for people who are considering buying one of these, I found some major issues with it: 1, the track arrived newly bent! Not lengthwise, but across. So it was not shipping handling issue, but came out the factory like that! 2, common problem is that the plunging pivot shaft gets jammed and the saw does not rise back from plunge. (There is an allen screw on the bottom of that shaft, hidden under the base plate (so you will have to remove it first) and you need to press grease into that hole and tighten back the screw. Needs to be done 3-4 times, to get the shaft greased ) 3, if you removed the base plate for example for the above reason, unfortunately that has to be precisely adjusted to be parallel with the saw blade! There are 4 screws on the bottom plate for that. Fiddly job! 4, The brake that stops the spin after releasing the on switch tends to fail, so the saw will spin for long seconds after each cut. If you combine this with the problem in no 2. you get a saw that you can lift from the track and put down from your hand, until it stops spinning! To fix the brake the whole saw needs to be taken apart into bits! 5, The two black plastic parts at both ends which (supposed to) keep the saw in any degree bevel, are horrible sloppy engineering! They let the saw play / wobble in a huge range (out of being parallel) to the blade, so there is no chance to set the saw into the same position twice! I have a video on this here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oquqg9ejptbQo2w.html 6, It just happened to me, that after I tightened down the carbon brush cups, that hold the brushes in place, they jammed, and became totally impossible to unwind again! They stuck there for no reason! I had to remove the motor to fix the brake, and for that the brushes had to be removed first, but it was not possible. The only way I could get them out was chiselling them into broken peaces, and couldn't avoid damaging the plastic holder and contact point underneath the caps. So the whole carbon brush socket was (had to be) ruined, to get them out. I had to order new motor housing and new brushes!

Why didn't you just move over to the left side of the bench seeing as though you are both right handed and move with the saw instead of reaching and climbing all over it?

I basically stole this tool from some young kid on offer up that had almost no idea what it was. Got this saw and a track for 150.00 brand new.

I think this was a horrible review, any idiot can take a saw out the box and turn it on. What about demonstrating how to align the track? Or joining two tracks? Who climbs on the work to cut?

Good review, were you using ear protection and no dust protection, I know you are using an extractor, health & safety is important you only get one pair of eyes, ears, lungs, come on guys, if you went on some sites that I go on you would be thrown off at worst or even red carded.
