---------------------------------------------------------------
First, I believe Makita is an engineering company and not a marketing company. Makita has some absolutely amazing tools that just do not hit the mainstream market for one reason or another. There are other tool companies out there who are very widely known and loved and they are marketing companies more than engineering companies.
With that said, Makita recently released the 40V max XGT line in the USA to help give some of their tools more power for professional use. The XGT line is new and not compatible with the 18-Volt line. Makita, being a group of engineers, decided that it was important to build tools with more volts to power the demands of contractors in the cordless market. That sounds like marketing hype, but it is not. This 40-Volt XGT line has batteries that are the same size as most 5.0Ah 18-Volt batteries and push some amazing specifications through the new tools. If there is one company out there that said "We had to do this, trust us" Makita would be one of the few I would trust. This new line is full of good stuff!
The new 40V max XGT Brushless 4-Speed Impact Driver (GDT01D) is an amazing tool designed for fastening applications in wood, masonry and metal. The Makita-built brushless motor delivers 1,950 in. lbs. of Max Torque with a smooth trigger to provide control. Beyond the trigger, there are many Automatic modes to help you complete fastening tasks fast and easily. The 4 speed settings (0-1,100/ 0-2,100/ 0-3,200/ 0-3,700 RPM & 0-1,100/ 0-2,600/ 0-3,600/ 0-4,400 IPM) offer a quick and controllable standard impact driver for users. The Automatic modes on the Makita GDT01D offer 9 modes for a wide variety of applications, including two tightening modes, one assist mode, three forward, and three reverse auto-stop modes. The two Tightening Modes (T-mode) provide faster tightening of self-drilling screws in thick or thin gauge metal. Assist Mode (A-mode) feature helps eliminate "screw cam-out" and "cross threading" by driving at low speed until tightening begins. Three forward and three reverse Auto-Stop Modes provide increased efficiency.
The XGT platform is built for professional use and that is not just a marketing tag line.

Just got the kit with impact and drill driver with two 2.5 batteries and free 4.0 battery. All for 350.00. I thought it was a great deal . My first Makita cordless experience. Man , when opened the box I was blown away ! I mean quality. Nice stuff. I must admit though , the mode options and buttons are a bit overwhelming. This thing is something else, but it’s great that Makita made sure there was ‘brawn to go along with the brains,’ on this Impact! Excellent upfront, open and honest, evaluation and comments on these new tools Brian. Many support you on this and with regards to the Flexy nonsense going on. 😬🙄🙄🙄😂. Stay safe and Healthy! 👍👍👍👍😁✌🏻🇺🇸

I found this explanation on the benefit of higher voltage batteries as they relate to run time. "A higher voltage battery has the potential to “push” more current-that is, more electrons-for a given resistance. This translates to the capacity for greater work, which is the same thing as more power. Higher voltage also means less current to do the same amount of work, so longer battery life."

@@robertrada6040 They are only dribbling out the 40v stuff. Won't be for at least 4 years we see a true lineup. Nobody needs the current lineup offering of basic tools in 40v...Makitas 40v lineup should have basically been Concrete tools and Outdoor power equipment.

@robertrada6040 3 жыл бұрын
@@EcHo8484 I presume right now the mentality is, “Hey, you can use the same battery for your impact driver/wrench after you use our rotary hammer.” Or “Are you a framer or laborer working for a residential contractor? You can use the same battery for your drill/impact driver as for your saw.” The Japanese catalog only shows single battery OPE (why?) atm. The 7-1/4” and up saws are not available there. Their 6-1/2” and 5” never left the island. Random 18 gauge brad nailer in two countries. Nicole Simpson can’t rap. 😂 Acme is the only company with stock in the US and they ship via shitty SpeeDee and FedEx Home Delivery instead of UPS. Yeah, not exciting at the moment. The grand scale of offerings from their own LXT lineup, Milwaukee and Dewalt (and for some, Ryobi) makes it really hard for any company to introduce a new cordless line without it looking quite anaemic. I’m happy to get what I get with the new lineup. LXT serves me just fine (wish I didn’t have to look elsewhere for nailers, though).

While I get that they opted not to have backwards compatible batteries for their 18v line I think they should of made the charger backwards compatible. For smaller single batt tools like the impact driver and hammer drill the 40v is overkill and die hard Makita people that have the 18v tools and buy into the 40v line for the larger tool offerings they would not need to have separate chargers on the jobsite if the 40v charger was designed to charge both while they still use the 18v and the 40v line, and would be able to use the 18v and 40v line more seamlessly without replacing perfectly good tools.

I hope I am answering this sufficiently. The battery for a 5 Ah 20 volt and a 2.5Ah 40 volt are the same other than some wiring. The tool has a different motor and other electronics made to take advantage of the increased voltage. It is not a game that they are playing. more power can be made with more voltage.

I don't get it. Makita changed the battery for their "extreme" platform, except they aren't releasing extreme tools.They're basically releasing the same tools that already exist in the LXT platform. No backwards compatibility, simply a bigger battery for tools that do the same thing. Give me the marginally less performance of LXT, while being smaller and lighter weight. XGT is a swing and miss so far.

I totally understand your statement. Maktia had a few choices and it is interesting how they decided to do this. They could have released the big tools first, then people would have said, but I need my small tools also if I need to change battery platforms. They released the small tools first and now people are saying this sucks until my big saw comes out. OR, they let the full line go at once and miss they hype of a new tool coming out every two weeks or so. I am sure that there is also a shortage of supply these days to make this even more fun.

@@WorkshopAddict OR they could've made the 40v a backwards compatible, dual voltage battery that runs the existing LXT line. Then they could've gotten straight to business on the more extreme tools, while keeping the existing Makita users happy. Plus, we've seen the high aH, high output Milwaukee. We've seen the dual voltage, and power detect from DeWalt. I think I like these solutions better, and this is who Makita is really competing against. If tradesmen have to repurchase all their common tools, well hey, maybe it's time to take another look at milwaukee, cause that new XGT drill doesn't seem all that much more powerful, etc. I hope Makita proves me wrong.
