I resonate with you when you said we create these arbitrary rules/ goals for ourselves and feel guilty when we don’t achieve them. I used to write daily to-do lists, and feel guilty if I didn’t complete them all in one day. I was sick of feeling like a failure, and beating myself up, so I decided to do a weekly to-do list, rather than daily. That way, I’m giving myself room for “life” and keeping myself accountable. I think any small changes you can make in your habits, patterns, and routines, can bring drastic results in an unexpected way. Thank you got sharing your thoughts ♥️

It's so silly how we do that right? Maybe we're socially conditioned make rules and follow them? I don't know. Giving ourselves room for life is the most important thing. This should be taught in schools :) I wish I had known earlier. Thanks sis ❤

I used to do this as well. Shifting from a daily to a weekly todo has been a gamechanger. I also like to do top three priorities for the week, when I’ve finished them I feel great.

I can relate to this topic so much! I am normally a positive person but the idea of my new job stresses me a lot as I will be working with very vulnerable people and that’s never easy! Just got out of training and tomorrow it’s the first day ‘on the field!’ So nervous about it but I am determined to do the best I can and not blame myself for situations that I won’t be able to control! Sorry for talking so much about me on this comment Sophie, clearly the topic triggered something that was inside of me! *Thank you for this beautiful video Sophie.* It made me breathe a little deeper, feel a little calmer, and gain a little more perspective (not gonna lie, I did tear up a bit at one point too). I've been feeling quite overwhelmed with all the things I need to do to prepare for my wedding and moving home, and the more things I have to do, the more I seem to procrastinate. These simple ideas you've shared (I particularly like the idea of the five minute rule and can relate to what you said about holding ourselves to arbitrary standards) have helped me feel hopeful about creating more of a sense of ease and peace in my life. As always, sending you best wishes and hugs from Scotland ❤

I always remind myself to stay in the moment. To remember to put out the energy that I want to get back. At almost 56 I am able to look back and realize that the things I thought were hard or bad or Stressed me out, were actually nothing more than a lesson or a moment. I wish I had not allowed them to effect my life. Remember we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Put out positive and you will get positive. Find JOY in every day. Remember to live for those who can not. Blessings to everyone here. Don’t stress , choose joy. 🍑🧡🙌🏻Lisa

*Excellent tips Sophie for giving yourself time to take a break or practice mindfulness. We live in a world where we're constantly sent messaging that we have to work all the time and do so in a way where nothing less than perfection is acceptable. Your message is always incredibly valid and whether or not your editing meets your standards, (it certainly meets ours!) the message is always so worthwhile and thought through. I do really appreciate that your videos are always calm and quiet- consistent so I can watch a playlist without nasty shocks. The 5 minute strategy is good against perfectionism, too- and it gets the important things done. And it’s so important to stop chasing dreams, sacrificing the present constantly, giving everything to a future possibility. It’s not worth it. (Even when you achieve it) Another thought-provoking and timely video, thank you Sophie.

@@mietonen maybe I wasn’t clear-it was late! I mean that sacrificing the present in the pursuit of the future is not worth it. I have achieved big, wonderful, dreams, but I believe that if we miss out on our life in the present, we risk looking back at years of work and stress, and not at a life well lived. 😘

Sophie, I can relate to your sharing. I had an extremely busy summer at work and created so much stress that I developed panic attacks. This was a real eye-opener for me as my mind and body was saying to slow down and be more mindful. Being a perfectionist like you, I am finding it has created tension in my actions because I wasn't going with the flow. And please don't worry about your editing. Even if you feel it is not up to par, it is beautiful because of your presence and the wisdom you share each week. Thanks for a wonderful video as always ❤

Single, disabled, female home owner. Have 5,224 square foot lot to maintain by myself at age 47. House was horribly flipped. One expensive problem after another. I get preyed upon by contractor scams because I have no husband. I tried to have a nice yard. My whole lot is stricken with blight. I LOVE gardening! I get to watch all of my trees, shrubs, lawn, and bulbs slowly die. 😔 I cannot even enjoy gardening. Everything I want to plant will just die. The overwhelm is incredible. No family support. So alone. 😞💔 I am suddenly apathetic now. Just give up. Live in a crappy house with a crappy yard for the remainder of my life isn't a great feeling.

Happy to hear you are doing what feels good for you mentally and physically. I did notice all the things you do in your videos 😃 you are so gifted. I'm too sick to work, but when we hired folks at my other jobs for videography and editing some of them spent thirty minutes combined filming and editing for a $1k - $3k project 😬 so it definitely shows to me how much time and effort you put into your YT videos. You make the best videos 🥰 I just found your channel a few days ago

I’ve learned that even people can cause you stress ! I’ve learned to stay away from stressful encounters that are out of my control or that simply are nothing at all. Once your able to pin point what is really causing you stress, please don’t ignore it . Stress is the main source of hurting our body and soul. Till next community!

Hi Sophie, you do have a very nice community of subscribers. I agree, I’m 52 and I try to remember that people don’t give us near the thought we think they are. So if we do make a mistake, it’s very likely they didn’t even notice, and even if they did, how much of their time do we think they’re spending thinking about it/us?? We often give ourselves way too much credit. Great topic today. Watching from Michigan 🦌🎄 .

Great video as always. Don’t be too hard on oneself, even though society demands our excellence. I really like the scene transitions, narration and BGM. The way everything is blended perfectly to form the final product…
