I felt this one! I just left my high paying career after 20 years because it started to take a toll on me mentally. Nice video Sophie! 💐 I just discovered your beautiful channel and like you I am enjoying a slow life with its own routines here in good old Europe (to be precise in this tiny country called the Netherlands 😆🌷🇳🇱). I used to travel a lot in the past, been a few times around the world and even got to visit Maui (back in 1999 when I was living my personal dream in California - okay that's another story 😉) and a couple of years ago Oahu 🌺🌴🐚 The current situation is unfortunately not suitable for long distance travelling nor leisure travelling, which I miss intensly to say the least. But you know what, not everything which has happened is bad cause I got to discover the simple joy of the every day mundane life. Since the lockdown in March I adopted a resilent attitude and made home feel like a beloved shed 🏡💞😊 I even have my own meditation/yoga sacred space finally! 🧘‍♀️🕉 Mahalo for sharing this video and stay always true to who you are in this life, no matter what 🙏😘

Such a lovely comment Alessandra! I loved hearing your story and how you adopted a different attitude to cope with current times. Also, that's so amazing you have your own meditation/ yoga space :) that has always been my dream! I could relate to your words. I love travelling and miss travelling abroad so much. I constantly have to remind myself that this situation does not just restrict me and so many others have it far worse than my current situation. Not sure when, but hopefully you can visit the Hawaiian islands again in the future! Sending you warmest Aloha from Maui.

I think there is no zero or all-in in minimalist lifestyle...I love living in fast paced city and enjoy going to places that the city offers (museum, restaurants), but I practice minimalism by buying less but better, keeping my routine simpler etc. There is a balance to it all 😌

There’s not a single video you produce that doesn’t resonate with me. It’s like you’re reading a page of my journal in each of your videos and Instagram content. I’m so glad I found your channel bc it’s so rare to see fellow young Asian Americans living a simple minimal lifestyle. For the longest time I’ve been told I was “lazy” bc I live a slow life, that I wasn’t constantly busy. I got out of the rat race in 2012 after I quit a job with a lucrative salary for someone who was still in undergrad. I was burnt out and my mental and physical health suffered as a result. I love my life now. I started minimalism in 2008 and the process took four years but now I’m enjoying a more satisfying and intentional life. Cheers, my friend! ❤️

Hello again! I paused this video when you mentioned going for a walk and taking pictures of everything like the sky or trees. You're not alone I too enjoy nature to its fullest and I pride myself on that. It's not easy for most people to pull themselves away from their electronic gadgets and from social media as a whole, sadly to say most build their values on it. You are doing a good job by not letting the world define your happiness and success.

Another great video Sophie 🙏 I wish I would have started a more simply and minimal life earlier. But for about 1 year I do. That´s why your videos resonate so much to me and -tada- we are getting more and more 😊. I personally would be very interested in a video about Black Rock at Ka'anapali Beach close to the Sheraton. I have married there a couple of years ago and missed totally the myth and history behind it. But maybe that´s too special for a bigger audience?

Thanks Jeff! So glad to hear that. I just don't think it's realistic to completely run away from stress. It's just a part of life right? But that's so great you want to exploring some ways of slowing down, even in a competitive university program like yours. It IS possible to work hard and still enjoy our down time :) Thank you for watching

This video filled in a lot of blanks and really hit home for me. I really liked your comment about “ not keeping up with the Jonses.” I’ve always tried to get the best things I could with what I had to work with. Who cares if they don’t match what others have! Your comment about “ don’t let others define your success” really hit home. My dad had one fault in that he tried to make me pursue careers or move to places that were not me. So I’ve tried give our two kids freedom to do what they want and live where they want. Let them define their own success! I like your “work to live and not live to work” If you enjoy what you do who cares what the job title is and how much money you make. Find success in the small joys! Prioritizing mental and physical health is really important! Relaxation ( not laziness😅😂) is very important! What’s neat about you two is that you have defined what makes you content, reached those goals, and are now able to shared your wisdom with us. That’s pretty cool for such young people! Congratulations! 🙏🙏😎😎

I loved your career as a scientist in the cheese field Mark. That HAS to be one of the coolest jobs and honestly inspired me to go after what I want to do in life. My parents always gave me the freedom to find my own path and I am so thankful for them for this gift. It is the biggest and best gift I have received from them. Because of this, it really shaped my world and my way of thinking to define my own success and happiness. I am SURE your kids appreciate you and Gayle so much too. Thank you!

Great video Sophie i liked how you said about small changes making a big difference so true. Im getting older and have been making small changes to my life and diet and it feels great. Also not having so much stuff ive been selling some stuff and using it for bills its so nice. Im a retired powerlifter i competed for 5 years had alot of trophies, donated all of them to a church that was having an event for kids. I have young guys coming to me asking about competiting my first advice i give them dont do it for a trophy do it for the experience trophies sit around take up space and gain dust but the people you meet and the memories you make are forever. Thats my thinking now buy some material thing use it a few times then its forgotten take a walk in the woods with your family memory for a lifetime. Good advice Sophie

My wife and I with two dogs live in our rv on a small town 1 hour away from the l.v. strip close to lake mead national park and valley of fire away from the hustle and bustle...We like the quite and less fast pace living therefore I like your lifestyle because it is very similar to the type of living we strive for even if it is in a tourist driven place. Great video as always. Although with KZfaq, I've lately been feeling somewhat overwhelmed...I guess I really do need to slow down. I've started saying no to extra activities and commitments from other people. But I do enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Recently I started dating this girl, and one thing we would do is during the week we would always meet up for a home cooked meal (not eating out due to COVID). We say a prayer and express gratitude for the food and time we spend together, and it's such a wonderful change of pace from our busy lives. As I write this, I realize your videos are very much a reminder of these simple and wonderful pleasures in life. Like-146
