Another wonderful video, thank you Malcolm. I adore the Cosgrove Hall stop motion series of Wind in the Willows from back in the 80s, and one of your previous Wind in the Willows videos that I watched recently, made me wonder why I had never bought the illustrated book.... so I remedied that last week, and since then I have spent some time reading it whilst smoking some St. Bruno flake in my latest Peterson.

Cosgrove Hall production remains a cherished treasure. Always enjoy Sir Michael Hordern, for as Badger is also the voice of Gandalf from the BBC series. Spring hasn’t had its chance here yet. Winter keeps hanging on. For a warm spring day in this Easter season for a pipe. Sigh.

Oh it was written for young and old alike, I read it often and there is much wisdom therein which only occurs to you in later years. We have a real treasure trove of children's literature going back over the years, indeed centuries, and my bookshelves are constantly being added to with charity and shop finds. I particularly like the chapter in Wind in the Willows where Mole and Ratty find Badgers home in the woods, i think i am like Mr Badger....Also Ernest Shepherd's drawings are marvellous in this and of course Winnie the Pooh. ☺️

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough for me to enjoy all the Spell in the Library videos.” 😉 I only discovered WitW a few years ago, but it instantly became a favorite. Probably the best part is the Piper at the Gates of Dawn chapter. I know it’s a pagan character and Grahame likely wasn’t a believer, but I get a real sense of the divine when I read it, like Pan is only a stand-in for Christ. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the book’s original title, changed shortly before publication to avoid similarity to a Yeats collection, was _The Wind in the Reeds._

Thank you so much for that information. The original title fits much better and resonates with the Piper at the Gates of Dawn high point.
