You remind me of my dad in a lot of ways. He loved Tolkien, guitar playing, and sailing. He wasn't much into pipes or pipe smoking, but 3 out of 4 isn't bad.

Glad to see that lovely Loar guitar again! Reminds me of my dad’s old Gibson ES-175, just without the cutaway. Beautiful instrument and nice pipe, too! Blessings

I think Aquinas is right that the Trinity can only be arrived at by Divine Revelation rather than through natural reason, but once you take it as a starting point the whole world makes a lot more sense. There is little so fundamental and so sublime and so wonderful as the Trinity of Persons, which we mirror in our own lives. Thank you for the poetry!

New subscribers here too, I have just got into poetry and I'm in my early sixties. I am totally unskilled in the art but write as led by the Spirit of God. From a background of being a failure educationally never attaining any English O levels because of being dyslexic and more creative than academic, but God has the last laugh

I improvised this poem in a few minutes earlier today as I sat with my wife and infant daughter before I went to work. I looked at my daughter and couldn’t help thinking about how bittersweet it will be later in down the road when she marries and leaves. The Maple Tree Of all possessions obtained in my twenties, my little tree sapling sat closest to my heart It came to me one dawn, barely twenty inches long; after feeble beginnings, it began to grow strong Many years I spent in careful nurturing, some shade, plentiful water and hours of bright sun In winter came the frost, and I covered the tree to protect it Months were spent in deep anxiety, but the fight with winter was finally won The maple reached for the sky as two decades had gone by And my tree began to no longer need me It warmed itself when cold, its leaves flashed red and bold I stood back and watched it continue to grow sweetly Then a man came along, much younger than myself, and begged if he could buy the land; My maple sat within its boundary, and though I wish forever at my home she’d stand, I could not rightly refuse him her hand And so my maple moved on, in the care of another, and was always loved well by the man; My only request was that as often as she can, to come home and see me and her mother

For us who aspire to be poets, what would you say are some practical resources to study? The best way to learn to write is to read, and I’m sure poetry is much the same. The words flow easily, but the form is hard to master!

What a lovely sound to welcome us! Don't stop, we're enjoying it... 💞 💙 Thanks for sharing the poems, and best wishes for the event, which no doubt goes better for a little thought and preparedness. By the way, we haven't forgot the wonderful poetry you rediscovered recently from 40 years ago. 🙂 Warm regards to you both.

Congrats on 100K subscribers, you deserve them and more. Today I’m eagerly awaiting the delivery of my third pipe, a Savinelli Churchwarden, I’m 61 and started my pipe adventure six months ago. I have such wonderful memories of my grandfather smoking pipe, my mother still has his pipes and she’s giving them to me. I’ll treasure them.

Oh keep up the guitar routine and you will be in fine fettle in no time! Bravo. I think serendipity, play, and Jung's idea of synchronicity all swirl together when we improvise.
