I'm thrilled to present my new personalized vocal program SINGING IGNITION!
www.singingignition.com
SINGING IGNITION is a revolutionary self-study singing program that lets you practice techniques and exercises customized for you...wherever and whenever you want!
The basic problem with a video or audio recording, whether on KZfaq or a self-study course, is it can’t give you the valuable feedback you need! They can’t determine what your voice specifically needs, curate the exercises that will work for you, and then adjust the exercises according to how your voice reacts.
That’s what a good voice teacher does. They tailor the content of their lessons to your needs.
But maybe you aren’t ready to commit to regular lessons. Or maybe you just can’t afford a voice teacher right now. Times are tough!
So you're stuck either booking a voice teacher, which can get expensive and has limited hours. Or you are forced to use a self-study course that can’t really give you the feedback you need to excel...
...and maybe you just don't feel comfortable quite yet, sharing your talent with anyone else!
Finally, all of this has been solved by the revolutionary new system SINGING IGNITION!

After two days I started to improve. The transition down from falsetto to head voice was especially helpful; instead of trying to force air up from chest to head, I learned to aim for falsetto with a lighter flow of air and land in head voice with just a slight bit of extra air. Once I started to get how it feels and where it's placed, it started to come naturally very quickly.

Since singing is an auditory activity, it's hard for me to know exactly what you're doing without hearing you and working with you in a lesson. There could be several causes and reasons why you're experiencing this, and it wouldn't be ethical of me to guess and send you in the wrong direction.

These are awesome. I can carry all the way to the top on your exercises, now I have to learn to apply to actual songs. I am primarily a guitar player but I have sung professionally in bands for over twenty years. Still trying to improve my vocals and get some more range. Rock seems to like tenors better than baritones like me. In the past a tensed up and pulled up chest voice, often with bad results.
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio 3 жыл бұрын
I'm happy these exercises worked so well for you. It's pretty common for rock singers to wat to solve the question of high notes by pulling up more chest voice. I'm glad you've learned that's not a long-term sustainable solution. Learning to mix takes time and practice but is worth the work in the end.

OK so I'm assuming your voice has already changed. It's a 10 year process for the male voice to settle after it changes at puberty so be patient with your vocal development. I'd have to hear you and work with you in a lesson to be able to comment about your question. Different voices have different abilities and needs. In general, it is very rare for a male voice to be able to stretch up into the 6th octave. Try it, but put more focus on improving your coordination and tone within the range you already have. I often say, "Give me half the range and twice the quality."
@s_s1250
@s_s1250 3 жыл бұрын
@@SpencerWelchVocalStudio Thank you for your response! I do feel that my voice has undergone the change however it isn't settled yet. I can sing till a D5 in mixed voice (sometimes F5s but they're strained so I guess we should leave them) however it feels awkward that my head voice reaches just 3 notes above D5
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio 3 жыл бұрын
Actually F5 is a pretty great range! Most of the advanced male singers I work with can only sing up to F or G5 and sometimes only in exercises. Those aren't very useful notes in songs, so you should stretch up into them for exercising and then focus on the notes the octave below that to make your voice smooth, rich, and free.

So I found I could sing some of the songs I’ve been struggling with on this trill with no strain at all. What is going on here? But it does seem to require a whole lot of breath. Is there a way of making use of this trill to actual singing? What is happening here?
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, SOVT exercises feed positive acoustic energy back into the vocal cords, helping them to operate efficiently with less muscular effort. You can run through a melody first on a lip trill and then with the lyrics, but keep in mind that lip trills make singing easier than actual singing. It's like learning how to ride a bike with training wheels.

Do we need to practice Head Voice first, then mix voice? what is the main difference of these two, Spencer?
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, most singers need to know what their head voice is first in order to then mix it with their chest voice. A simple explanation is that mix voice is heavier than head voice, but lighter than chest voice. Check out this video for more of an explanation: Finding Your Mix Voice kzfaq.info/get/bejne/euCInq58tba1YZ8.html

Without hearing you and working with you in a lesson, I can't say how long your warm up should specifically be for you. Hi, thank you so much for all your videos. I've been trying to get a mixed voice. I've found an area in my voice which is really light, very quiet and breathy, but it is singing high notes very quietly, without any tension, and I can go from the bottom of my range right into falsetto range, but it really doesn't sound good at all - if I try to make it any louder my voice cracks and it's not a good time, and it's very very thin. Do you think it could be a really underdeveloped mix, or is it just a weird whispered chest voice? Thank you so much.

Why is transitioning up and down through these resonances possible (i.e. so easy) with this exercise without the break on the lip trill exercise? The voice isn’t getting stuck in chest voice and it doesn’t seem to be cracking ascending or descending.
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio

That's why lip trills are amazing! They are part of the exercise category called semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVT) exercises where a partial closure in your mouth assists the vibration of your vocal cords.

There's a difference between your voice, the instrument, changing and your ability to play that instrument, your skill, changing. Your voice, the instrument, probably won't change a lot now. The male voice does settle for 10 years after the change at puberty, but the changes are incremental now. BUT your ability to use the voice you have better can improve through training and practice.

As i understand, his head voice is just very good developed counter-tenor timbre, right? So, to sound like that we need to accent counter-tenor transition?
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio
@SpencerWelchVocalStudio 3 жыл бұрын
Which brings up the question: objectively and functionally what is the difference (or similarities) between "countertenor timbre" and head voice? Especially since some countertenors are baritones who couldn't get their career to take off as a performing classical baritone, so they transitioned to developing and performing in falsetto. I explain the functional difference between head voice and falsetto in this video: What is Head Voice? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n71jqbidxtbQgXk.html On the other hand, Dimash is a leggero tenor ("lightweight tenor"), the highest and lightest classification of the tenor instrument. So his vocal fold length and thickness are much shorter and thinner than a baritone's. He is singing in a connected head voice in his highest notes, instead of falsetto.
