Correction: Billy Joel is singing a Bb4, not a G5.

How could you make that mistake? I mean it’s so clear that the guy wasn’t hitting the G5 note, it’s clear that he’s not even hitting a note close to D5…

You'd probably be interested in listening to Kyle Hollis from the band "picturesque". In the song "new face" he hits a chested B5 at the end, and routinely hits G5's like they're nothing. He's a super high tenor singer

These use Mixed Voice.

here's a hint, all voice is mixed voice it just depends on what degree. These are "chest dominant mixed voice" if you'd like to get technical, but literally all proper technique singing is to some degree

I feel like all male (and most female) vocalists are heavily mixing this note. As well, I'd argue that, while it's always impressive when a male sings this note, it's not my cup of tea. It is clearly not where the male voice shines and to achieve it most men are mixing with a very heady and thin timbre. Modern music has prized the ability to go high for men, but arguably most men sound their best far lower. I'd take a good G4 (or E4/F4) over a high mixed G5 any day from the average male singer. The weight, depth, and robust sound of a good male voice is more obvious here, even for tenors. The human tendency to automatically think "higher is better" is simply not true when it comes to voices and unfairly disadvantages lower voice types.

True. I feel like Beyond an E5 is where women start mixing similar to beyond an A4 where men start mixing. That’s where the chest mix shines for both and I’ll take that over extremes :)

If you listen to David Phelps his C#5’s are a great blend of registers, and sound exciting and powerful. Imho anything above that loses too much thyroarytenoid engagement.

Hello Matteo! Today is a very lucky day and I was able to hit Bb0 and F#0 in chest-fry for a couple of seconds! Can I send you this audio in Discord?

Cool video! Billy Joel it seems to me to be singing a Bb4 tho?

Thank you! Looking back on it, it does appear that Billy Joel is singing a Bb4.

There's only one male singer that is allowed to constantly sing such high notes in my sound station and this is Axl Rose in the 90s 😁🤘 (His voice is destroyed now, he truly was a baritone [F1-B6] which always makes high notes better than if a tenor squeaks and presses them out)

I cant even go above like B4 chest (being safe and not saying E5 bc im not sure)💀 I used to be able to hit 6th octave notes pretty easy and even went into 7th once but i lost thr ability to whistle somehow😭

It’s chesty-mix ain’t no way it’s a full belt G5
@braddorittybaker21654 ай бұрын
It absolutely is full belt. Chesty mix goes higher and sounds very slightly lighter.
@edel-ac4 ай бұрын
@@braddorittybaker2165 how on earth a G5 is a Full chest belt ? Especially for a male , you can clearly hear the mix
@tyrekedagreat79644 ай бұрын
@@edel-acyou're right, it's a mix. Most female singers cant hit a G5 in full chest, let alone male singers
