Incredible setup! I wish he was my neighbor Lol I wonder what my wife would say if one day she saw me building one of these hyperrealistic sims. She already complains I spend too much time in my mancave flying sims, playing guitar and building stuff. 🤣🤣

I agree the addition of the window did make a difference. Hopefully he adds all the others in too because you could see a difference when you panned to the right side window. Keep up the good work Russ!

What a Great setup! I still enjoy using my big 4K triples even though I have access to a G2 and 8KX headset. Just so much more comfortable to use and it does not seem to strain my eyes especially for long flights.

Good job! I went actually the other way from projector to huge LCD's. FlyElise is a gem, but I found that I spend more time alligning and blending frequently that it kind of sidetracks you totally. 4K Quality with LCD screens, specially with MSFS is a must. Jaw dropping and the joining lines of screens easy to get used to. My advise is if you want to start with your own sim definitely LCD's. Projectors not for everyone. Pro's and Cons... * Another major frustration is that those blending lines need adjusting between day and night time flying. Actually I found it worst than LCD screens joining...

Marvelous cockpit, really impresive, the immersion seems to be on another level ! I'm not native English speaker and did not understand what is the material used for the screen... ? Great option to replace my triple 55'' 4K setup in the future... Thank you very much for all the videos you share with us !

A sheet of material used to laminate on a wood surface as a kitchen countertop. Common trade names here in the US are Formica or Wilson Art It is stiff but can easily handle a bending radius as small as 2 feet

A super informative video with so many tips! The reflections of instruments on a physical window seems like a great immersion enhancer... adding that to my list for the MiGPit Mk.VII 😀

That is very impressive and glad he was willing to share his setup. I’m still a MSFS2020 VR flyer but have been enjoying X-Plane 12 more every time I give it a try. Based on no actual real world flight time, X-plane still has a better feel to it. Hopefully they will improve the VR experience soon but having a full cockpit certainly has an appeal. Lot’s of work though to get there.

Impressive and good explanation too on video. I like to just drive cars on my old oculus rift but I enjoy watching flight sim stuff too.

Funny but I started flying at 16 and was never bitten by the auto bug… seemed like just a way to get to the airport 😉

Thats the way im heading with my own "Sim-ply" DC 3. The 4 screens just dont cut it at all. Not being able to look out over my shoulder at that good ol' R-1830 taking care of me is a view sorely missed. "Have you got a wheel?" ...😢

Does Air Manager create a separate panel for each touch screen, or a single panel, parts of which is simply dragged over to the second screen? Thanks, Alan

Russ, I noticed that he has just the prop spinning out in front of his physical cockpit (no panel or dash there). How was that accomplished?
@rbarlow
@rbarlow 9 ай бұрын
Yes since he flies using a hardware cockpit Chuck had a fellow build a custom aircraft with plane maker that only has parts visible from the cockpit and has no 3D panel. He also did this because there was no good Malibu model for XP. I. Know there are ways to remove textures from the model to make them invisible but I have never done it. When I fly single engine props scenery only in XP I miss seeing the prop.

Looks Good. Off topic. But Russ, you are one of the biggest experts in X-Plane world. I have X-Plane 11 and X-Plane 12. I just updated from X-Plane 12.05 to their newest 12.06. When I restarted I noticed I have no data output such as FPS, ect. I went to the General setup and made sure to choose the output option and FPS ticked and any others. Nothing in the upper left in green. Any idea?

When designing a screen build for projectors, is there any real “science” that goes into it, or do you just build a curved/horseshoe screen that fits your space, and then the warping software just finds a way to conform to it? I noticed he said he did a “horseshoe” design which was in the fly Elise base set of screen types, that made me wonder if one has to design a certain type of screen to work correctly with that software.
@chuckkendall7407
@chuckkendall7407 9 ай бұрын
The only science is figuring the size of the screen to maximize the usable pixels. My horseshoe setup uses about 70% of the available pixels. If I had to do it over I may of chose a cylinder. The Formica screen material naturally confirms the curvature resulting in a better surface.

@@chuckkendall7407 ah ok, so you’re saying doing the straight (parallel) sides at the end of the horseshoe is what cost you some pixels? I’ve seen some others posted here on KZfaq that continue the curve (cylindrical) all the way to the edges creating what they consider a 270 degree cover. You’re saying that’s what you’d do if you could do it all again?
@rbarlow

I believe Chuck had room dimensions that limited his ability to use a full cylindrical screen perhaps he can confirm that
