Raag Durga is my favorite Raag ! I am happy to listen to Pandith Mallikarjun Mansurji singing Raag Durga in detail Alaap ! I am 75 years of age now and in a better position to appreciate Hindusthani Classical music both in Vilambith & Dhruth style ! I had the opportunity to listen to him live during my aunt's marriage to the son of the late Kannada Novelist Sri ಅನಕೃ , when I was 15 years old ! At that time, ofcourse, I couldn't appreciate his renderigs ! But I always had inclination towards Hindusthani music 🎶, though I was learning Carnatic Classical music ! Now I am better placed to enjoy & appreciate the music of the maestros of the caliber of Pt. Mansur ji ! 🙏 😂🎉

Tears rolling. I had interacted with Panditji in Lucknow. I spoke to him in Kannada our mother tongue. He was very happy. We took chai also. Unforgettable.

You should write in detail about the incident - not in Kannada, but if you do, please have it translated for us - and please do not let these anecdotes stay hidden and lost from us for ever

Please tell us more! I grew up in Lucknow, somehow missed his visit there. I heard somewhere that he wasn’t very keen to come to Lucknow because of the cold reception that one of his gurus (possibly Burji Khan Saheb) received many decades ago.

@@som2601 That must have been Ustad Manjikhan saheb whom he revered deeply. It is also on record that singing of Ustad Manjikhansaheb did not interest listeners in north much. In his house, Pandit Mallikarjun MAnsur worshipped his Gurua like god by keeping their photos by the side of photos of deities. The two-three years when he learned under Ustad Manjikhansaheb must be easily the most rich but short-lived guru-shishya transfer of knowledge and learning association in the history of Indian Classical Music. @@hemantghayal7709 you’re probably right, Manji Khan saheb was the more celebrated performer of the two brothers. I’ve heard that Sawani Kalyan recording. It’s an encyclopaedia.

@@hemantghayal7709 USTAD MANJI kHAN, A COLOURFUL PERSONALITY IN ENGLISH DRESSES WAS RATHER CASUAL ABOUT HIS OWN HUGE TALENT. AS A GURU, PT MM HAS DESCRIBED HIM TO BE MOODY AND INDULGENT WHO USED TO PAY HIS STUDENT MONEY FOR KITE FLYING, TALKIE VISITS AND KEBAB EATING. THEN AFTER 3-4 DAYS THE GURU WOULD WAKE UP AND THOROUGHLY TEACH THE DISCIPLE MANSUR TILL A RAGA WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AND THEN CELEBRATE. PROBABLY HE DIDN'T TAKE LUCKNOW EXPERIENCE BY HEART BUT YOUNG MANSUR WHO USED TO ADORE HIS 1ST GURU, DIDN'T FORGET.

I was all of 7y when I first heard him teaching my beautiful cousin (God Bless her Soul) in Dharawada and yes I fell for Hindustani Music Hook Line & Sinker. It’s 59y now. Yes he was teaching her ‘Eree Aali Piyo Binaa…’

I am a Worshipper Of Hindustani Sangeet! I haven’t seen any one Rendering such a Flow Of Ragas like a Silent Flow Of Rivers & Mejestic fall of Dabhdabhe ! (An Water Falls) ! Dharawad is A Blessed Place!

No words to express the feeling. They were the last of their kind. Pts Bhimsen Joshi, Basavraj Rajguru Kumar Gandharva, Bade Ghulam Ali, Gangubai Hangal.... There are very talented singers today but they simply cant compete with other genres. 30 or 40 years ago the media meant AIR or DD.

The clarity of his alaps & the tans is amazing. As a student of classical music I can make out the notations of his music . Also the lightness of his voice , the amazing command & the gradual badhat so that his music reaches every listener & can be appreciated by everybody is what makes him a frontline singer. thank you very much uploading this video.

Way back in March 13 one Mr.anshul Rai on listening rag durga by maalikarjun mansur writes "heaven ".what more one could write I am poorer of words t-o describe the qualities and singing style .Amazing depth clarity of alaps and taans .unparallel it is simply heaven. thank you for uploading the Heidi of raag durga.

More than music this is an experience. A prayer. The nearest I could come to divinity was through the medium of music .... Created and woven by the maestros. MM, BSJ, Kishoritai, Kumar G, George Biswas, Jagmohan ......

@@chidambardeshpande1716 The thing which he sings in the concluding part 'tana naa dir dere dere tadaani'. It's an equivalent of chota khayal but instead of words employs syllables from Pakhawaj.

Thanks for uploading this gem of a rendition of Raag Durga by the one and only Mallikarjun Mansur Who these 11 idiots, who have given thumbs down to this divine singing by the legend. 🤔 Mallikarjun Buva was such an accomplished exponent of Jaipur Atrauli gharana, his command over the svaras was something to be heard to be believed.

He is not singing jaipur style here; atleast the initial 16 mins- may be gwalior; he imbibed Gwalior style before Manji Khan.. Jaipuriyas probably never sang Durga?
