Mama Cass was the heart and soul of the Mamas and the Papas, she carried that whole group on her back. She had perfect pitch, one in a hundred thousand people have perfect pitch, she also had a lot of style.
@lyndafaye67483 жыл бұрын
Singing acapella (Heartaches etc., ) I love the oldies... Perfect pitch IS very rare. I have "relative" pitch...but Mama Cass just " floated her voice through both the alto and the soprano so strongly" as if singing was absolutely effortless! What a great lady! You can hear her taking her "controlled" breaths between phrases...called " evenly executed breathing" I think, not sure. And the LA DE DA parts, Do viewers get the "feeling" that those were the "notes" she wanted a guitarist to play FOR her somehow ? When others sing her song, they always leave that part out; I think it's her special "composing on the spot?" What a great lady and singer !

I learned about perfect pitch in HS choir, in the early 70’s. I’ve heard many people use the term not knowing what it means. There’s a few different terms called perfect pitch, most any trained musicians can meet. The one I learned they don’t have a number of people that possess it. That would be to sing any note of the scale on demand, and of course all within ones range. If that’s what you understood it to be, all good, if not please in the future refrain from throwing around terms you’ve heard, but don’t know for a fact what it is. Myself I have to find middle c first, then hit whatever note was called for. Of course that was before my 5/20/14 stroke that stole my Sinatra quality baritone, Bing Crosby quality whistle, master orators diction ability, instant access to an Oxford dictionary of words, and train of thought, I run into walks when ranting, and I get tongue tied when I rant to quickly;(;( But I can still walk a 12 minute mile, and all my filangzees work fine. But my losses kill me;)
@ghost_evermore2 жыл бұрын
perfect pitch isn't really that rare in my experience, but maybe it's just because im in mostly musical circles edit: also perfect pitch doesn't necessarily make you a good singer. she's amazing regardless

This song is beautiful and bittersweet to me. The main reason for me though is this was the song my Uncle wanted played at his funeral and in April of this year, 2020, his wish was honoured after we lost him on Easter Sunday. I couldn't even attend his funeral due to lockdown measures so listening to this hurts at times knowing I'll never see him again or hear his infectious laughter. He made everyone feel happy. I never got the chance to say goodbye to him but once things blow over, me and family are going to have a party for him, for all the years he was a psychiatric nurse, for the amazing dad, granddad, brother, husband and uncle he was and for being my godfather. One of his biggest wishes was for me to be happy, a father of my own and in a relationship. I hope I can become half the man he was. Love you lots Uncle Si x x hope I'm making you proud, K ❤❤ p.s. RIP Mama Cass, you made your own kind of music with that big powerful voice

Wow, I remember when this was playing on the AM radio in 1968! So many wonderful memories of years gone by!❤ To all those amazing days we thought would last forever!💕

My older sister used to sing this to me when i was really young...i remember her long brown hair falling down her shoulders, her light green eyes staring at my brown ones while playing the guitar and singing this song with her angelic voice...this really brought back memories❤

This was my grandma and grandpas song. They loved this song. My grandma passed from cancer when I was a toddler * I'm 26 * and grandpa never dated again. He once told me that he tried dating once but he felt like it was cheating on grandma. I am currently married and have a beautiful 4 month old. I only hope my husband and I can have a love as strong as my grandparents. I know how hard it was on him when he lost her and while this song is beautiful and full of love, I can't help but to feel sad thinking about the pain my grandpa endured the day he put my grandmother to rest.

@SavannaErickson4 жыл бұрын
@@julieanderson443 it is absolutely true. I would never lie about my dead grandmother. My grandpa is an 85 year old war veteran with more grandkids than I can count. My grandmother may not be with us on earth but she built a beautiful family who have nothing but love for her and my grandpa. The other story may be similar but it is not mine.

I know this is no match for those of you who lost parents and grandparents who sang this to them but I sang this in the car with my mom every time it played but then I got insecure about my voice and now I’m in middle school choir and we are singing California Dreamin’ and I thought of Mama Cass and listened to this song for the first time in years and and I was able to sing!!! Thanks Mr. Foley for bringing out my voice!!❤️

I'm Carol... or as my grandson, Michael, calls me 'Gaia". We are out on our back deck, it's a warm Spring night. A taste of the sweet Summer to come. Staring up into the night sky at the North Star, I start singing this to him as he leans over and puts his precious little head on my shoulder. This is the stuff that love and memories are made of ❤

One of the purest voices of all times, meaning flawless. I loved this lady, greatly admired her and her talent. I put her there with the late, great Patsy Cline. Cass, we loved you. We could care less about your size, as long as you could be healthy and stay with us.

This is el primo example of how good songs are timeless - Like John Lennon once said "A good song is always a good song". This song was written by two guys: Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt in 1931 and it was pretty much the only song they were ever known for.

Mama Cass' voice is so sweet and beautiful. Her version of this song isn't the only one I remember from growing up, but I think it's the best for a haunting too-bad-you-didn't-appreciate-me-while-you-had-me-now-it's-too-late song. I love how plucky she sounds. She was great, but so mistreated. Miss her.

Reminds me of a time when beautiful thing was a film that a teenage me needed and as an adult I need the message of it again. I love Mama Cass. She reminds me of the nice version of my mum but Rosanne Barr when she's grumpy is the other. I ALWAYS loved Darlene and the actress she is today in the Big Bang Theory. Thanks for doing this video and making me remember the nice parts of very painful times. Love from a dreamer ♥️👍🙏✌️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
