This past Monday (July 29, 2024) marked the 50th anniversary of her passing. There was an online article published last May by her daughter Owen(who was seven when her mom died), clarifying that her mom “did not die choking on a ham sandwich.” Plus, no drugs had been found in her system at the time of her death, despite her being big into drugs. Somehow I can picture Patsy Cline also singing this song, with the lyrics “Sweet Dreams till sunbeams find you..” reminding me of her big hit “Sweet Dreams of you”(and the movie Sweet dreams about her life of course.) Anyway, May Ellen Naomi Cass (Mama Cass) 🪦 RIP. :)

This song got stuck in my DNA from the Repo men movie. Afterwards, I could hear it here and there in several similar Television Achievements but always in some beautifully weird situations. This song truly carries something wonderful and creepy. Like a final greeting.

Ozzie & Harriet were parents to Ricky (Hello Mary Lou), and grandparents to Tracy (Seinfeld, Square Pegs). Almost forty years after it was composed, The Mama’s & the Papa’s appeared on Ed Sullivan.
