Paint me was the time when moomoos freaked out because it was the first time when moonbyul sang in a song. It has a different place in our heart. It was an intro to the 4 season 4 color projects where the girls present each color with an album. Like Solor - Blue, Moonbyul - Red, Wheein - White, Hwasa - Yellow. Oh, and "paint me" was the official introduction of vocalist moonbyul. As in, her actually singing for an officially released group song (she'd harmonized with members prior, of course) She had released unofficial songs prior and you prob'ly saw her singing at various points in mmmtv, but she never got to do it for their official songs before this The other members, esp solar, put their collective foot down and said they wouldn't do a song without byul actually singing with them, though i don't recall if they did that with "paint me" or the fan song "star wind flower sun" (originally written by solar, like most of their fan songs. This particulat one being a love letter to the other members as well as to the fans)

MoonByul always writes rap herself in EVERY song, so now she has 110 credits under her name, and she is #1 female artist (3rd gen) and #1 female artist (overall).

Starry Night is still my favorite song from Mamamoo. The prechorus and chorus gives me chills.

This project was called "4 Seasons" Each MAMAMOO member is assigned with an extended play, a color, and a season: Hwasa is assigned with the album *YELLOW FLOWER* , the color yellow, and the season of spring. Moonbyul is assigned with the album *RED MOON* , the color red, and the season of summer. Solar is assigned with the album *BLUE;S* , the color blue, and the season of fall. Wheein is assigned with the album *WHITE WIND* , the color white, and the season of winter. Each color is also associated with the stages of a relationship: • Yellow with the beginning of the relationship and love. • Red with the passionate romance of the relationship. • Blue with the sadness and loneliness felt during the breakup. • White with the clean and pure stage before starting to love again.

I have a different take on the You in Paint Me. There are multiple layers to both the song and the deceptively simple MV and Paint Me is the theme song for the 4 Season 4 Color series that introduces all the major concepts and cyclical symbolism used throughout the project. The most obvious interpretation of Paint Me is as a love song, following the progression from being alone (white) to being attracted (yellow) to falling passionately in love (red) to heartbreak when it ends (blue). The next level is a life cycle, starting with the innocence of childhood (white), then adolescence (yellow), adulthood (red) and old age (blue) leading to death (black). Black is not included in the 4S4C color scheme however it's mentioned in the lyrics and it's the only color in taoist 5 element color theory not included in the 4S4C colors. I don't think it's a coincidence that the follow up album to the 4S4C albums is called "reality in BLACK" (BLACK = Bless Life And Carry Knowledge). Imo the last scene in Paint Me implies an ongoing cycle of lives via reincarnation. The opening scenes are mostly set in an abstract white or black space with a contrasting black or white piano and a member dressed in her assigned color. We're nowhere specific in a primal zone of yin and yang, perhaps before birth. Then the first color is introduced, White, representing the innocence of childhood and of not being in love. They go through all the colorful experiences of life and love during the song and at the end of life they're seen in a nebulous black & white zone dressed in black or white in a return to the primal, universal forces we started with. The lightning in the background represents the spark of creation imo - as this life ends, another begins. The song is structured as a series of waves that rises slightly towards the end but doesn't build to the climax you'd expect in a love song and as the song finishes Solar's voice trails off like a wave gently receding at low tide. Obviously MMM knows how to make a climactic ending if they want to so this is an artistic choice and my interpretation is that it's a part of the musical representation of the idea that this is just one life in an ongoing series of life cycles. Finally, there's the real subject of the song, the You. I agree with the theory that Paint Me is about their relationship with Music - that's the You they're singing to. There are a several clues in the MV and the lyrics, starting with the elephant in the room - the black & white pianos, the only recognizable objects in the whole MV. Elemental forces are depicted like fire, water, light and air (moving clouds) but there are no realistic sets and no other props. Note that they're transported from the initial B&W abstract set to the full color world in the clouds via the lid of the piano Solar sits on. We see the clouds on (or through) the lid and then they're transported as though the lid is a door or a gateway into a life of many colored experiences, where the B&W pianos reappear fitted together in a yin-yang formation. Music serves two functions - it's their means of expression and it brings meaning to their lives. It's the music of the spheres making the universe work in perfect harmony and it's the soundtrack of their lives moving in rhythm to the beat of seasonal and relationship cycles. You were struck by the line about espresso, which is a very odd line in what is ostensibly a love song. If you look at the lyrics you may notice that 4 of the 5 senses are included, espresso representing taste. Imo they're all metaphors for the one sense not mentioned - hearing, our way of experiencing music. I've blabbed on too long so I won't comment about Starry Night
