Mamiya C330 the Lovely Beast

Mamiya is one of the most important names in film photography. They have made legendary cameras like RZ67 and RB67 and also Mamiya 6 and 7. I'm really glad that I finally joined the club with this lovely C330. It's not only a super fun camera to use but it changed my mind about square 6x6 format.

I have more or less the same set-up C330f, 55, 80, 135 and 250mm - all of them the black version with Seiko shutter. The 250 was really cheap, like €70. I only used it once, I bought it to have a spare shutter, just in case of, but it turns out to be a really nice lens. I have multiple Mamiya camera's (M645, C330, RB67) and two Rolleiflexes as well. It's hard to only pick one, but I think the C330 is my favourite of them all. I never had the issue with the cocking of the shutter that's not working, I saw you sent it for a CLA, glad to read that, I hope it now works fine.

C330 is also my favorite medium format so far. After the CLA my problem with the shutter is fixed and now it works perfectly fine. The lenses are really cool and of course so small for what they are. I think I'm gonna get a 250mm at some point. Wish they had something wider than 55mm.

I used the system in my Studio, occasionally on sites! I loved the results. The weight!

I've still got one of these. I've used Rollei's and Hasselblads, but I have owned 4 of these since 1982. The Sekor lenses are as good as any Zeiss lens.

You're right, of course I 've never tried a Hasselblad, but I'm super happy with this Mamiya and I'm sure I'm gonna keep it for a long time

TIP, the lock knob operates a baffel inside the taking section, like on hasselblad 500 series cameras, but THIS is manually controlled on this tlr!, so watch it, you can fog film, or NOT take a shot, quite easily, if you are not careful.

Sometimes, I get tempted for film photography but then I remember I don't have the patience for the entire process

For me a big part of shooting film is the nostalgia, and of course I find film cameras more interesting than digital cameras. But I know that there is nothing wrong with digital and when there is a fast paced job, it's the way to go. Film is just different, both in process and the look

The thought of finishing the whole roll, posting it for processing, getting it scanned, then finally getting a file for post processing…. It’s tempting to thing it is all a big PITA, but then I think because there is SO much invested in every shot, it pushes me to visualize carefully, to have a clutter free image, so I’m hoping it will be worth it.

@reusedisland1904 I think these days film photography is all about the process. You have to really love working with analog manul cameras. You gotta enjoy developing and scanning your own film at home. If you like these things, it's a rewarding process.

That problem you have with the shutter cocking, looks like there may be a broken tooth somewhere. Just use it as a C220, by winding the film on and manually cocking the shutter.

Thank you for this video. I've inherited this camera from my father and really love it. I've the same lens you have, but the 180mm instead of the 135mm. All the set has been in the bag for several years and few weeks ago, after a complete revision, I've starded to use it and the sensation is unique. Still not have developed the film and I'm so curious to see the result.

Are all C330 cameras the same? Or is it like the Rolleiflex with a half dozen different models?

As far as I know, Mamiya TLR models are far less than Rolleiflex. In the Rolleiflex worlds there are different focal lengths and different maximum apertures. But in the Mamiya TLR world,there is C330, C330F and C330S which are basically the same, with minor differences. Of course there are older models like Mamiya C33, C22 and C220, but they have been replaced by slightly more advanced C330 models.

Nice video! If you want , I can help you with a step by step on the lens thats not cocking. It took me about 5 minutes. All you need is a spanner. A pro would charge you about $100-$150 for the fix.
