I've had my RZ67 Pro II for about 12 years and love it. My two favorite features are the 3D quality. First, the 3D quality looking through the waist level finder, and second, when looking at the slides on my light table are also very 3D looking. I almost hate scanning my images because the 3D look goes away. It is truly an amazing camera! Nice video, thank you!

What you said about using a camera in a way that it's not traditionally meant to be used to push creative boundaries kinda blew my mind. It goes against conventional wisdom of "using the right tool for the right job" but makes a ton a of sense for those of us who need to stand out and differentiate ourselves in a hyper saturated field. I really appreciate that! I mean, I'm definitely not the first person to bring a RZ out into the world, but it's amazing to continue to push the boundaries with both these old tools and their modern usages!

Or those of us who love the way it renders. We are willing to haul it around. My highest bench press was 300lbs, 6 lb camera? You have to be kidding. With the op tech strap, I can wear it for hours!

Collecting mine tomorrow and so looking forward to learning from it. Some of your wedding images are stunning and in print, must be incredible and a priceless gift for the couple to be in awe of for years. That's what photography is about. Also, love your mindset. Totally agree with so much of what you say. Lovely to see a 'feeling' photographer as well as a seeing one. Subscribing from the UK.

@@JTobiason No worries! Just watched the night portrait video. Again, superb and informative through your experimentations. I certainly will once I've mastered it and got myself an Instagram account! Not the most sociable person 😂 Use to shoot weddings digitally for ten years but haven't picked up a camera for about 6 or so until now for a few reasons but getting the love back through film. Got me an Eos 1n as back up which is close to what I used to shoot. Looking forward to seeing more of your work and learning from you. 👍🏼 Ps. Used to be in conversation with a beautiful tarot card reader on here who lives on Camano Island. A lovely part of the world. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be.

Maaaan! There is a bunch of film photography geeks uploading videos on their channel, most of them are a good resource for technical things but their images suck. You, on the other hand, have really gorgeous images. You're really talented.

Wow, great images Joe. I really love your shots from Ecuador and Mexico. I know what you mean about connecting with your tool. The Hasselblad is my jam. Cheers!

Thank you very much! Those Ecuador ones (and so many other portraits I didn't include with that video) really made me love it. There was a moment when we got caught in a rainstorm in the amazon and I had my two Canon DSLRs with the RZ. I thought the weather sealing on those would be great, but then was holding the RZ under a t-shirt as we used palm fronds as umbrellas. When we got back to the hotel, both Canons needed to soak in rice while the RZ was totally fine. In hindsight, I probably should have included that story in the video. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nice review. I like how you do the why of choosing a camera over just the specs about that camera. I owned an RB67 for a while and enjoyed it. I eventually sold it to buy a Hasselblad 500CM as I regretted selling my old one 25 years ago. I like the feel and slightly smaller size of the 500CM as well as enjoy square format more...BUT, the RB/RZ67 gives so much more bang for the buck. Everything about the system is more affordable and every bit as useful. If I had owned both at the same time I am not so sure I would have sold the RB and kept the 500CM, as much as I do still enjoy it.

Completely agree. If I could choose, I'd probably go with a hassey too, but the functionality of the RZ/RB systems is incredible. They can do it all and do it all. And I love that shutter thump.

Great photos! I've been considering a Mamiya for a medium format film camera for a very long time. I just picked up a custom made panoramic film camera that uses a medium format lens with a machined 35mm body. It doesn't have a light meter, but my other film camera does. How do you meter for light with the RZ67?

That is awesome! I've drooled over those setups for a long time. I really love panorama stuff. For metering, I either use am app on my phone or if i have a digital camera with me, I just set it to the same settings and use it.

awsome photos!!... I am behind a medium format but I am undecided. I have in mind one of the RB or RZ series but I have heard rumours from one to another: basically the fragility of the system one for being mechanical and the other for being electronic. Have you ever had any troubles with this and needs repair? thx

I've had very few issues with my RZ, but it is currently having some issues with the mirror lockup. But this is after 6 years, a few hundred rolls and taking it around the world. I've never used a RB, so i can't speak to their comparison.

Great video Joe! Sorry if you've covered this before, but do you scan your own film? Or which lab have you fallen in love with for that process?

Of course. I generally self develop/scan. I don't have a video that explains my development methods (but also feel like that subject is pretty well covered by others). @@JTobiason Thanks for getting back to me - I'll check out the video! I'm always curious what others do. My goal is to develop/scan myself eventually but I don't have the ability for that right now. In the meantime I keep trying new labs haha.

Yea. It really isn't that hard, especially in black/white. You need a few extra tools for color, but that's pretty easy too. And good luck on labs. If you aren't finding what you like, it might also be worth having conversations with them because many labs will just do a "standard" look, but have a lot of other ways to scan stuff, so they can help you find the look you envision.

It's not that heavy. Our soldiers carry 100 lbs of gear into combat where folks are shooting at them and folks complain about a 6 lb camera? Wimps. An image from this camera feels like you could walk into it. Compare the movie Oppenheimer shot on essentially medium format film vs Fat man and little boy shot on 35 mm. The gorgeous tonal transitions across the face in all those head shots, the buttery out of focus backgrounds, the shallow depth of field, all the detail but not rendered in a clinical, sterile manner. I have a 645 pro tl and it allows 24x36 prints but it doesn't quite have the feel of 67.

Totally. I is always worth it (and you never notice the weight if you just properly pack a backpack).

In my small back pack, I don't even notice the weight of camera, 3 lenses 2 backs. But a pain to take off the backpack and take out the camera. But coss body, it is totally manageable and instantly available and not setting the back pack in sand or dirt.@@JTobiason
