Mammoth Site, Hot Springs, South Dakota
The Mammoth Site is in Hot Springs, South Dakota. It is an ongoing archaeological digs. It is a world renown site. In 1974 before anything special was known about the site, a landowner decided he would bulldoze the hill and build a housing community. As the bulldozer made a pass on the land, it was stopped because someone noticed bones, and maybe tusks.
The folk working on the land called in a paleontologist who knew they had something special. To the landowners credit, he sold the land for exactly what he had paid for it.
