Another addition to the collection, this MM2, which replaces the one previously in the collection. More research has shown that this model could actually be 1967-1975.

Thanks for a very helpful video. I use 120-130ml of water in my MM2, no spitting of water on starting, and there's about 70ml left after a 15 minute run.

Had one of these as a kid - aged 11 or 12. Used to fill it up from the tap and with meths straight from the bottle - no measuring. Loved the smell of steam and meths - happy days. Could never get it to drive any Meccano builds though

This is interesting because I have a mm2 in the red box but it has a solid fuel burner which it is meant to have and a water level plug

My info' doesn't state that the box changed to any other design after the red window carton was introduced in 1965. The water level plug was added in 1975 and the solid fuel burner was added to export models in 1976. Home market models came with the solid fuel burner as standard in 1977 and there's no mention of any box changes after the above mentioned 1965 date. The models were discontinued in March 1979, being replaced by the SP2 in the same year.

Fill the boiler with rain water. You'll be amazed how much longer she will run!

Hi, you seem to know your stuff, just wondered if you can you fit a whistle to the MM2, and if so, does it just go where the water cap is???
@PLAYINGAROUND
@PLAYINGAROUND 10 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks. No you can't fit a whistle to a MM2, at least not without major surgery. What you describe as a water cap is a safety valve, which lifts when excess steam is created, thus releasing excess pressure and stopping the possibility of blowing up the boiler. No steam engine should be run without a safety valve, although there were a few non Mamod ones that didn't have one back in the early 1930's. Hope this helps.
