Check out Ryan on Instagram: / ryan_sheeley
Ryan has built a truly epic garage gym. Unlike many in our community (myself included) Ryan still wanted to be able to park two cars in his garage. This forced him to think of a way to store everything up against a single wall when not in use.
For those that are short on space or minimalists and want a home gym that will store away, there is a lot of inspiration to be had here.
I appreciate the opportunity to see and train at your gym Ryan!
Shout Out to PRx Performance for sponsoring the trip ✊🏼

A lot of us have gyms in our basements where headroom is limited. You should do a series on racks and cable machines for spaces 8 feet and under. Even much of the space saving equipment is still too tall for even an average height ceiling.

I so understand the working out alone part. I worked on board a supply ship a few years ago, and we had a tiny gym, with little equipment (but still all you needed), and I still miss that little room. You had total freedom and no distractions. No waiting for someone to finish.

The problem with a home gym is that you lose half the benefit of going to a commercial one: the inspiration you get from seeing other people experiencing the same pain.

Nice little setup. I purchased 90% of my gym basically at one time as well, and have plans to improve/add/change things over the next year. However, basically everything my wife and I wanted and needed was purchased immediately. If you're ever passing through the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area you're always welcome to stop by! 😄

Nice gym! We bought our first house about 9 months ago that came with a 400sq ft (almost brand new) shed in the back that I couldn't wait to start building a home gym in. I bought the Rogue RM-4 rack with some add-ons, Ohio Power Bar along with over 300ibs of bumper plates (wanting a set of steel next), I have the Ironmaster Dumbbells that go up to 125ibs with the stand, a cheaper lat machine that's weight loaded but come to find out later that Ironmaster DB plates work with it lol. I bought several horse stall mats from Tractor Supply. I use the original Ironmaster bench with almost all of the attachments and it works great with a few cons. So far it's been great. I still have a wishlist of things to add such as a functional trainer and a piece of cardio equipment among other things, but if you can swing the money to grab yourself your own gym it pays for itself over time.

@@markkealy4417 he’s talking about how instead of leading with his head upwards , he’s performing more of a good morning squat than a traditional squat by bringing his head up on a more perpendicular angle putting force into his lower back more than legs and glutes and at such a heavy weight a “cheat” like that can be very damaging to the lower back . Good mornings have their place , but it’s typically lighter weight so the lower back isn’t destroyed . I guess a cheat is a cheat and if it gets him a bit further in his strenght progess it might be worth it , but if you’re showcasing workout equipment it seems stupid to be flexing with poor form instead of demonstrating proper form at a lower weight .

I like to lift by myself also because I have had 4 friends come to my home gym and work out with me but it is such a slowed down workout when you have people who are not able to lift the same weight you are spending more time resetting the weights then actually working out. Best reason not to go power blocks is you are willing to let others work out with you. Wife, son, friend. Secondary reason is you are hard on equipment. You don't want to have to buy multiple power blocks. Best reason to buy power blocks is space saving. Secondary reason is save a little bit of money. This guys setup is pretty good for space saving in a garage.

The only way I can think to make that squat rack better is to have a adjustable base for smaller spaces to have it fold up. Just make the legs shorter so it can fold away since people like I can have a lower ceiling and still fit. If I got 1 of these id get the second to cheapest 1 and have to cut the base to fit which I don't want to do

I don't think his form is bad, almost everybody tips forward at least a little bit when squatting near maximal loads
@MonsterhunterFTWWTF
@MonsterhunterFTWWTF 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm confused too. I think the forward tilt is not good, but it isn't terrible form. It's obvious its a 4-5 rep max for the dude, so it's passable if you consider that. When squatting your weakest link show up first, so in his case, it's his back not being strong enough.
@danielbotos9107
@danielbotos9107 4 жыл бұрын
MathiasExeia actually no. He leans forward because his quads are too week for the weight and he helps with his back. It turns into a good morning/deadlift rather than a squat. It is not necessarily a bad thing, depending on what your goal is, but still. If you squat like this, your quads are weak. Edit: for 4-5 reps it really isn’t a passable form. For 1 rep max maybe, but if you’re squatting for reps, not so much.

Very poor form on squats. Edit: **You get stuck half way while getting up and are pushing with your back and upper body. ** It explains why you look small inspite of lifting heavy weights. But may be looking big is not what you might be after... Better form will help though in all goals.

Well since he helps develop he should do a attache able pully cable for pulls and more that can still be out of the way. But I need a rack like that since I have so little space from my ceiling and floor I don't want to have to dig into the ground to make a rack fit because my floor is foundation using a old storage basement thats 8 by 12 not perfect but just right enough to fit a 6ft heavy bag a incline adjustable bench pullys wall mounted. So rack bar and weights are what I need but bar ima go cheap since I don't need 500 plus till I get a good deal ill be making molds for weights to make them out of cement. I have dumbbells and a treadmill. But that's all I need over all so can't weight to get to be able to have a squat rack. I do have a 70 plus lbs weight vest. So squats for now will be 1 leg till I out grow that. I have a small weight tree for dumbell plates. Can't wait till I can afford 😩 a barbell weights and a rack

PRX is cool, I was looking into the reverse hyper one. It is perfect for my lack of space but when I saw the price I laughed. Come on....wayyyyyyy overpriced. $1800 I believe. It should be less than half of that. Titan sells a standard RH for $500. I would pay for the convenience of the PRX around $700/800.

While the price is high, it's also a GHD, not just a reverse hyper. If you take that into account, plus the engineering behind the stowability compared to competitors reverse hyper/GHDs (not just titan...) it's fairly well priced.

I'm definitely no Mark Rippetoe, but I can squat more than twice my weight on a straight bar. I don't see what all the bad form comments are about here. If your knees are inline with your toes, your knees don't pass over your toes, you keep a neutral spine, and hinge at the hips there's nothing to worry about. So what if you're not super smooth and the movement is a little disconnected between back and legs. At some high weight your form won't be 100% but you've built up enough muscle and muscle memory to push it a bit.

Love your videos Coop, but the title is misleading, using a bench and dumbbell rack that take quite a lot of floor space. How interesting that @PRX marketing guy is not using the $400 foldable bench which has limited use! I thought about buying that one for a long time, but also went with REP fitness for the bench.
