Nah AI just sihen the light to human stupidity. The guy would kill himself without the AI. He was depressed and lived ina a relationshup where the stupidest type of AI had more fake emapthy than his family. Basicly a buffed probability calculator was more emontionally avaliable than the guys wife.

Not really, he was the one who suggested that he end it all in exchange for some chat-bot to magically save us from climate change.

I don't think I believe this, but, if true, it's unfortunate that a family got destroyed and kids are without a father. However, he choose to do it, even sounds as though he was the one who brought up s-cide as a solution. If he didn't suggest it as a solution, I don't think that this gpt-bot would have told him to consider it. On the scale of dangers posed to us by AI, the "Eliza Effect" seems very benign to all but the most ignorant and fragile members of society. He should have gone to counseling or talked to his wife about it more than some bot.
