my favorite part of his story is that the reason they held stances after his death was to try to prove/disprove the existence of mediums. he left a secret message with his wife that he would try to send to her through a medium once he died. no one was able to do it despite them holding annual seances for the next 10 years. eventually his wife announced that this obviously wasn't working and she didn't think he could come back.

Houdini was an objective paranormal enthusiast, I absolutely respect him.

Houdini WAS punched, BUT, it was because he'd said he could take any punch. Someone came to him and asked him if that was true, and while he was saying yes it was and not prepared, he was punched and thus his appendix was ruptured. ALSO, after his death, Bess kept a candle burning by his picture on a mantle honoring his wish that she make every attempt to contact him in the afterlife. They had a prearranged never shared sentence so she would know it was actually him and not a charlatan. She kept the candle burning for many years, and tried many times to contact Harry but to no avail. After a long time she finally accepted it wasn't possible and blew out the candle. Amazing what real BOOKS can teach you if you take the time to read them. He also was once handcuffed around a pole by some police officers who didn't think he could escape, and they said they were going to get a drink at a local pub as they were walking away, and he calmly asked as they were all walking away "Mind if I join you" and they turned around and he was there behind them handcuff free to their amazement

...this just makes me think of my first horse I had for over 20yrs (rest in peace, Dally!💕) Who we nicknamed Houdini, because that's sonofabitch would escape absolutely every single pair of hobbles we had to use on his front feet to haul him... We finally had to have a custom made pair we called his "Dally Shackles" that were literally soldered together in the middle with about five individual "rings" of 3.5in thick steel chains linking each of the "cuffs." And he had to have his 16.2hand, 1,200lb Canadian SportHorse body smashed into the tiniest available space inside the horse trailer; usually where a large pony would most comfortably ride? I like to think he thought of himself as an Equine Escape Artist, and when he was smashed into a tiny space with his hooves shackled together with his halter buckled to the trailer tie, he was forced to calm himself down and then spend the next 20mins or 20 hours of trailer ride having to try to plot out some sort of magical escape act... . (I mean,.he never managed to pull that OFF, luckily, and he didn't DIE while trying to perform one of these stunts at least? Not that he didn't come pretty close some of the times when he DID manage to escape or BREAK free of his damn handcuffs; man I miss that beautiful, unruly beastie)

He literally wears a full suit while in prison, and the cop is just gonna check his damn mouth kissing with Bess... Bravoooo

As a great magician once told me “it kills the magic to know the trick so stop asking me how I do my tricks” But as I grew up I noticed how he moves his hands and caught many of his tricks in play The whole point of magic acts to me is that you gotta be able to do it “magically” I understand that’s not realistic at all however if you can move quick enough and do good enough your tricks can always pass even the most advanced eyes which is the typa magic that looks like real magic…
