The fact that he wanted to keep trying to be arrested and kept mentioning the warrant that had nothing to do with being drunk tells me he's in a lot of pain emotionally and doesn't know how to deal with it. I hope he gets help that he needs. I feel for him.

This guy makes the best point ever about how pointless the sobriety test is, in Australia they don't bother with sobriety tests they just breathalyze you and charge you if you're over. A lot more efficient and less time wasted making drunk say their abcs and walk an imaginary line
@Lfelipedlc
@Lfelipedlc 11 ай бұрын
FYI the reason they do that is in case the person is currently or had recently taken some breath mints, gargled some listerine, etc. They usually wait 15 min before administering a breathalyzer test.
@yankeesforlife24
@yankeesforlife24 11 ай бұрын
A field sobriety test is used to gain probable cause for a blood draw, which is the end all be all. A blood draw never lies. Without a field sobriety test used they don’t have probable cause only probable suspicion which doesn’t rise to meet the standard for a warrant for a blood draw.
@eldona123
@eldona123 11 ай бұрын
@@yankeesforlife24 But wouldn't a breathalyzer test do the job? I would consider it to be more straightforward and reliable. At this point the whole field sobriety procedure seems outdated and a waste of time for all involved parties ...
@sarahthelibrarian7591
@sarahthelibrarian7591 11 ай бұрын
People also take pills and other drugs that can impair them and they’d blow 0’s on the breathalyzer, but they’re still impaired. The only probable cause they need for a warrant are the officer’s observations that sometimes include field sobriety. If the person declines field sobriety and the PBT the officer can still get a blood warrant based only on their observations.
@yankeesforlife24
@yankeesforlife24 10 ай бұрын
@@eldona123 no a breathalyzer is not 100% accurate. It’s just a gauge. A blood draw doesn’t lie and therefore is generally the only thing admissible in court.

I turned my life around when I was at my lowest point with depression/alcohol when it dawned on me that if I was cool with dying, I can be cool with anything. So I finally took all the risks I was too afraid to take because, worst case scenario, I could just kill myself. Sounds messed up, but that was how I was able to get the courage to quit my job and start my own business. And jail sounds a hell of a lot scarier now than it did then, because when you're at the bottom, it doesn't really matter if you're miserable at home or miserable in jail.

I've been in a similar mental state as this, when you're emotional and going through a lot of hardships in life you do stupid shit like what he did. Hey man! Hope you are doing well. Just wanted to let you know to hang in there. While i may be younger than you i have been through some similar issues as you. Ive been in the military for a while now and i struggled with alcohol dependency myself. I had a lot happen to me back home while i was on deployment coupled with the stress of deployment. Then i got a severe TBI which caused me to have epilepsy (not an interesting story and actually happened after i got back from deployment LOL). That really messed me up in the head for a while (obviously but im talking mood swings, depression, severe anxiety) and it totally derailed my plans for my career. I started drinking more. And eventually it progressed as these things do. I tried to hide my seizures but they caught up to me and ingot pulled before my second rotation out and was stuck in a place where a knew almost no one because everyone i knew had just been deployed and on top of that they didnt have work for me so i stayed home for months basically collecting a paycheck without a job. I couldnt drive due to seizures. I had a really close family member pass at that same time. I totally spiraled. Got to where i was drinking at least 2 1/5ths a day and i literally was saying “F life”. I was hospitalized a few times due to my alcoholism. Severely dependent. Couldnt sleep a full night without waking up withdrawing. Seizures, even medicated, became extreme frequent. I became anemic and was barely eating. I lost a lot of weight. I finally told my neurologist. He looked at me and said “You cannot stop drinking without medical supervision or you will most likely die”. And i knew if I kept drinking i would most certainly die. I am 5’10 and at the time i weighed 120lbs. I looked ghastly and the medical problems were piling on. Now something about being 24 years old and getting told that, essentially, without help your choices are death or death really hit home for me. I immediately sought treatment through rehab. And let me tell you that was the best thing ive ever done for myself both physically and mentally. And i promise it will never be anything you will look back on and go “i really regret doing that”. The way i felt then versus now doesnt even feel like the same person at all. So go to that rehab you may have been putting off! (Not detox, the full program). And if it costs a lot, well so be it. Youll free up all that money you were spending on alcohol to pay it off and wont even mind a bit! Stay strong!

I’m so fascinated by these videos. The police are so polite empathetic and professional. I grew up during the troubles in Northern Ireland when the police did not need a reason to stop you and search you. As a young women driving alone I was often terrified by a group of men stopping me in the dark. They’d often flirt and make comments if a sexual nature - it wasn’t seen as a big deal back then. I’ve never been arrested or in any trouble and I’m very much against drunk driving as I lost a friend to drunk driver (a police officer incidentally). If we talked to the cops in the way many people in these video do we’d have been in a cell so fast our feet wouldn’t touch the ground. I hope you appreciate these guys.

I love your surname, Anne! At least I think it’s your surname; if not, sorry! The police officers here are in La Crosse, Wisconsin, right across the Mississippi River from Minnesota, and these two states have had reputations for extremely polite people from 100+ years ago. It’s the Scandinavian influence....Minnesota has had a very large population of Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish people, and Wisconsin does to a lesser extent. There are warped, evil police officers everywhere, even in Minneapolis (as we know from the George Floyd murder), so I believe it’s wrong to characterize all, or even a majority, of officers as rotten.

Depends on how soon after you drank them you do it, whether the fumes are still on your breath. I got pulled over years ago after drinking probably a six pack or so over the last couple hours. Passed the fields and agreed to blow, told them I only drank two beers an hour or two ago. I blew .078, which is .002 under the limit. The officer seemed a little annoyed, asked me again how much I had to drink. I said "just the two". He said "you know and I know you didn't blow .078 from drinking two beers". He let me go (which is good since I was about a quarter mile from home). I don't know, maybe he was just full of shit or something, but I always took that to mean that I didn't have to worry much about blowing over until I got over a six pack or so. He seemed to think that it took a lot more than two to do that.

I get that they’re concerned about him but I just can’t get past the selfishness of these drunk-drivers. The fact they can destroy an entire family over one drunk “me me me” episode even once is just insane.

Sometimes we're so far into darkness and depression that we feel like we're truly blind to the world around us...this guy unfortunately is also just in so much pain that nothing else matters, it's all he knows and that's why he escapes it with Alcohol. I truly feel for him and I hope he gets the help and care he needs.

@@dreadnought2024 I'm so sorry to hear that. I have a very good friend who lost her daughter a year ago because of heroin. She got so high she drove her truck into a brick wall at 90 miles an hour. Some people say it was suicide, but we don't think so because her boyfriend was in the truck with her. And she would have never done that with him in the truck. She loved him very much. Please never stop talking with your son about his addiction, he may not want the help now, but hopefully someday he will before it is to late. In my life I have seen many people with addictions, many have overcome it. Never give up! My friend also lost her husband of 29 years just a year earlier to Cancer. I don't know how some people can take so much pain and lose in such a short time. But she has been strong! I'll pray for you and your son. : )
