Yes, if Man United had lost the final, Ronaldo may be so eaten up by guiilt for missing the penalty, he may not be as confident going forward to win 4 more CLs. This type of matches could make or break a player.

clzm90 Not Ronaldo. Ronaldo is the most determined player of any other player in history! The Euro 2004 final, he lost and after that, he vowed he’d win a Euros and did so in 2016. He’d have been upset about the penalty miss for a while but things like that don’t phase Ronaldo for too long. He would have stopped till he’d won a CL.

Funny story, my dad was watching this game on telly and there was a storm going on. When terry went up to win it the power went out. My dad was stuck there for around 10 minutes and when it turned back on, he saw van der sar waving his arms around.

This was the last time me and my dad watched Manchester United lift a European trophy. I have great memories of us dancing into the pub. Unfortunately I lost him in 2011. RIP dad. I watched this little documentary with a tear in my eye.

This was the peak of everything. Peak Man Utd line up vs peak Chelsea line up. Every player in their prime, fully fit. Every superior talents imaginable in the teams. And ultra genius managers. This, is what I missed from the Blue vs Red rivalry.

I was 15, and a die hard United fan. I remember watching this match on an old TV in a room where nobody would distrupt me. Remember the penalty Ronaldo missed, and thought Untd lost and started crying... It was so hard and also so enjoying. Ever since I never felt that feeling, like never ever in any other situation. It was unbelievable! This is the match I always remember of, and whenever I see Ronaldo playing for other teams, I still feel hurt, and I know he lost his trueself after leaving United. He was never the Roony we knew, he is now just the Ronaldo that lives in the shadows of Messi. Back then, Messi was his shadow.

This was my first ever CL final i watched as a kid. I supported United, but the more i got older i realised what great team Chelsea had, they also deserved it to win. Exciting and thrilling game until the end with two legendary teams. Great memories!

Compare the 2 player's tallies, important contributions in big games against the top teams, what the 2 players won in their career's, the 2 player's work rate during games etc... Everything is chalk & cheese.

He also "won them" the red card against Drogba which I think was extremely vital. It may have had the same impact as Zidane's sending off in the World Cup final. During extra time, United had to play the ball out because some player was injured/hurt. Chelsea gave the ball back to them, but playing it out of play deep in United's half which pissed the United players off because it gave Chelsea the opportunity to press them. Tevez later did the same that led to an argument between the players which ultimately culminated in Drogba's sending off.

The rain was the icing on the cake for that amazing match. It created more tension and pressure. It set the perfect scene for an amazing match. Current ManU and Chelsea teams are not even 10% powerful and skilled as these two ManU and Chelsea teams of 2007/2008.

I remember they had artificial grass on the field that year, they were talking about how slippery the field was even in normal condition, the rain definitely made it even worse, still couldn't imagine how did they even play on a field like that.
