I watched an interview a few years back with defender Pietro Vierchowod. Diego Maradona once described him as the hardest defender he ever faced, and his reputation as an absolute animal of a defender is the stuff of legend in Serie A. The interviewer asked Vierchowod who was the toughest/dirtiest opponent he ever faced, and without a second's hesitation he replied "Joe Jordan"
