Just because one cannot clean it on regular basis ; as cleaning any clay utensil requires to be kept in direct sun for at least 1 day in every 10 -15 days , which checks larva , and other microbes , moreover majority of people fills non filtered water , in which the visible dirt or growing larva goes almost unnoticeable because of the small opening of pot . Yes one can use earthen pot but with condition to daily change with fresh filtered water and to at least keep and dry the pot in sun for a day once every 10 days .
