Wanted to try building out a kit for the SCAR 17. Goal was to carry ammo and water. Missing some other small items. Like most things I do it will evolve and change.

For my HK91, I run a micro rig carrying 4 mags, underneath a Pattern 83. Carries a 3 liter camelbak in back, room to carry extra nalgenes if you really need water like that (I do not, built different) and the mag pouches on the P83 have the dividers cut out. Can stack box mags or pack 50 round drums. Carries plenty of gear, compass, maps, snacks, ear necklace, etc. Assault pack I use carries actual food, and extra mags, plus we spread load more mags because the crew likes having .308 to cover their movements. And not being the silliest goose, I don't go at it alone.
@jontee3437
@jontee3437 2 ай бұрын
I would need the camelbak and 2 or 3 more gallons. My loadout would be 5 gallons of water and one extra mag because I couldn't fit anything else. I have to drink like crazy but I don't ever need to piss cuz I sweat it all out lol.

Competed in a Run n Gun in Texas last summer with my SCAR. Used Onward rig to carry 4 mags, one mag on my belt, and one in my gun. I had to carry 4 mags in my assault pack and reload between stages. This video is helpful as I look to up my ammo count while staying mobile for next competition! Great content!

I have a recce rig and love it. My buddy runs the trex rig and I think the trex one might be slightly more appropriate for 7.62 mags. I think it would solve your molle column issue. Barrel and hatchet’s ghost rig may do the trick too. That being said, I also have an unexplainable loyalty to Mr Tren as well so rock on.

When I was active duty, I always rocked belt line kit, but in the form of a war belt. Part of this was because my unit specialized in jungle warfare which required dropping armor for chest rigs (LBVs) at times to avoid heat injuries. By keeping some of my pouches on my belt I didn't have to move as many molle pouches back and forth under a time crunch in the field, as well as kept some of the weight off my shoulders/spine. For a rough idea of kit set up from memory, Belt: dump pouch, IFAK,1-2 grenade pouches, Leatherman pouch, Holster (rarely had one but sometimes applicable), M4 double single mag pouch (sometimes, more often when dropping armor). Plate Carrier/LBV: 3x M4 double single mag pouches, admin pouch (PVS14, balaclava, map gear?, batteries, electrical tape), Hydration pouch (3-liter CamelBak) 1 Grenade pouch (sometimes). Assault pack: 2 canteens (pouches on the sides but could be moved to belt if I couldn't bring a CamelBak for some reason), another admin pouch for whatever you wanted handy (like moleskin for me, hand sanitizer, wipes, etc), Grid fleece top (if in a desert or expect cool night temps), Rain top (depending on environment/temp) Tarp, poncho liner (woobie for the soldiers/ light blanket for civilians), Bivy sack inside and Isomat in the bottom straps if living out of it for a couple days, 2-6 MREs, batteries, spare mags/ammo, map gear, 1-3 Skivvy rolls, 1 spare uniform (depending on space but was usually left in the main pack), sewing kit, Waterproof compression bag that could be turned inside out for an orange signaling panel. There might be other stuff too I'm not remembering right now. Anyone with spare space would also often carry extra gear for their weapons attachment. Most often belted ammo and/ or mortars, sometimes spare rockets or explosives for the Assaultmen. Water was always important to manage, the CamelBak was for drinking throughout the day, the canteens were to refill the CamelBak or to drink from when in a stationary fighting hole. Partial canteens/bottles are really loud though so we typically prefer to empty them all at once. As long as you bled all the air out of your CamelBak/ hydration bag of choice they should be fine for field use, but if you don't, not only will they make noise, but they are also more prone to pop. Always take the extra 30 seconds to flip your CamelBak upside down and suck the air out of the hose. It saves you from so many potential issues.

I currently run my 34A high like a chest rig, more as a split front chest rig than Vietnam Era LBV. I always have a pistol with multiple reloads, IFAK and dump during training, as I usually have most of the same, everyday, whether working or otherwise. This setup let's me fight and offers sustainment without impeding movement or forcing me to ditch what I've carried on my waist everyday for decades.

Gonna say something that sounds super dumb but has saved my ass every FTX: Put a granola bar in your chest kit. Something with fruit, preferably not added sugar, but with natural honey. You would be so fucking surprised how often I’m just sitting there getting pissed on by the rain and I reach into my pouch on my chest right and pull out a cliff bar or whatever the fuck and all of a sudden the rain just doesn’t seem that bad anymore.

7:51 PRS and NRL competition shooter here. I can tell you that most hand-held range finders are kinda garbage. Basically you want to use either binos (with some more magnification) or some type of mounted unit (the Impact is fine, it is bulky though). Where you come into issues with hand held units is areas with a lot of grass (especially high/unkempt grass) or areas that don't reflect signal well and the target is semi-far away, making ranging them a nightmare with one hand holding a Ranger 1800 or something (you'll get a nil-return back a lot). If you have the mounted unit, I would really suggest learning to adopt that into your setup. I use them on everything from MPA bolt actions, down to simple 16" 5.56 LMTs.
@PeterReid1993
@PeterReid1993 2 ай бұрын
Handheld LRF’s are good for ID’ing metal or man sized (and larger) targets in linear and open areas. Such as an urban environment. Which is why he built this kit and as he said “it’s his fantasy”. We used similar equipment in the Army, handled just fine for tactical applications. You’re right though, non-metallic targets will get you a nil-reading at longer distances. Rifle mounted rangefinders may be the money for NRL and PRS, but a hand held unit for tactical applications is just fine.

I like the load-out. Some things to consider that are lightweight and cheap: 1. Electrolytes pills. 2. Ways to purify water like aqua-tabs or a sawyer filter. 3. A lighter or a ferro rod. Also, including the total weight would be a nice touch. 308 kits are always heavy.

hit the prone, burn a mag, and then see how a reload goes... because, with that chest rig, that low on your torso, you're gonna play hell fetching a magazine quickly without raising up significantly. Extra gloves, the desert isn't kind, rocks hurt, sand burrs stab, and rifles get hot AF in the sun. Lastly, put something to chew on in the chest rig, tootsie rolls, jolly ranchers, some sorta candy or beef jerky, or something. High in calories, but compact and easy to get to without much movement.

Real Talk, LandNav. It sucks but in my personal opinion (based on experience) I definitely recommend ITS, Imminent Threat Solutions, LandNav kit. For Real, it comes with EVERYTHING you need to either get started or maintain your skill level. I mean everything, the company was started by a former SEAL and has a great emphasis on LandNav and Escape and Evasion. Speaking of E&E I would recommend their (ITS) lockpick credit card and kevlar cordage, great stuff. Anyway, thats all I can think of at the moment. I thought that bong rip would grease the gears a little but anyhoo when it comes to your kit and what the end use is intended to be, just remember the little things. Wargame a little in your head or go out in your backyard and put yourself in a scenario related to your kit and everytime you think of something you need or could use for this or that purpose, go in your house and get it. Like camping out in your backyard. Everything you brought out to sustain you and yours for one night out in a tent in your backyard, pack that, or field strip it down to were it's functional. Now think, what if someone else shows up that wasn't invited with violent intent and want to detain you. Okay integrate those items to get away or evade into your kit and pack those too. Example, small plastic or polymer concealable handcuff keys or lace your boots with some kevlar or 1100 cordage. Just said all that to say this I guess. Doing cool guy shit is cool as shit until it isn't. We aren't "Operating" with any support anymore. That means you have to be the S1, S2, S3, S4 as well as the standard grunt rifleman so 'if' you are building a kit to be real-world operational you not only need to have your stuff together for your weapon system you also have to feed, shelter, and rescue yourself so try to work elements from each one of those commands into your on body kit. That's really it for now not that you'll ever read it. Anyways just another rant from your Uncle Brad, You're welcome Internet. Carpe Noctem Brothers RLTW

Love this concept! would be nice to see a similar video on HK91. maybe some day we will get modern 308 pouches similar to what's on the market for the AR15.

@@Managerialoutcomes I'm talking like tacos. Pouches that don't have Velcro or button flaps. Maybe kydex by nature.... The extra metal on a 91 mag gets hung up on cloth far to easy.

If I may add something. You’re missing your calories, you can’t fight if you’re starving, and in combat if you aren’t constantly eating you’re starving. I would recommend at least 1 MRE in the pack for sustainment, and at least 1 pack of candy easily accessible for quick energy. I always start my kit drawing with the 3 B’s first: bullets, beans, band-aids.

I would either ditch the binos or the rangefinder. You can get both capabilities in modern binos today. Or just a rangefinder with decent zoom and lense opening and run it as a monocular. Less weight. And bottles/cans are a solide 😁 choice. But you can save weight and "space" with softcans like the hydropack. When we are going on training/missions in above freezing temperatures. I run a canteen in the vest, a camelbak under the topcover of my ruck, and have a waterpouch/bladder. That's around 6 liters/6.3 quarts of water that's "personal".

Great video. I’d probably have a few ibuprofens or maybe Tylenol in there just in case if you have a headache or something like that, it’ll be pretty helpful

Okay but chop barrel to 13", re-jet, and use a moderate to low backpressure can. Do not switch to the ACR stock, do get a mototech recoil buffer and receiver screws. No I have not finished the video yet so you maybe you cover some of that but I love you so you need this info asap as possible

This may seem silly but I always carried 550 cord, electric tape and pre set duct tape wrapped around a small thing of card board though i use it for demo charges, some kind of lens cleaner,always some spare lenses though that's because Ive got some thick boy glasses microfiber towel to quick dry myself if it rains,some kind of water filtration/ idodine tablets just in case, im a combat engineer and not infantry so my mission priority is different

Any chest rig, load bearing vest, split rig, etc, need to be run a little high above the belt line. I say raise ur chest rig a little more (magazines at least halfway above your nipples) and then raise the split rig as well. Camelback is another good option. NODs we would keep in our rucksack and take out in our patrol base or carry if mission was run at night (usually). Same for pogey bait, leave it out unless METT-T dictates otherwise.
