Күн бұрын

Former Watford, Sunderland, Southampton, Aston Villa, West Brom, Birmingham, Blackpool, Crystal Palace & Leicester City player Kevin Phillips is our special guest on No Tippy Tappy Football.
Kevin Phillips sits down alongside Sam Allardyce & Natalie Pike to discuss all things football from his incredible goalscoring ability as a player to his early life as in football management.
The former England forward talks about how his recent sacking at Hartlepool came as a huge shock and that he’s eager to get back into management should the right opportunity arise.
Kevin and Sam also chat about Sunderland, the fans and how the two of them would make a great combination to fill in the vacant managerial position.
They then talk in depth about winning the European Golden Shoe award and how Kevin was incredibly unlucky to have only been capped 8 times for England.
Finally Kevin mentions his cult hero status at Crystal Palace and also what it was like playing in Soccer Aid alongside some of the biggest Hollywood A-listers.
All of this and more in the latest episode of the No Tippy Tappy Football series, brought to you by William Hill.

Best player Ive ever watched in a Sunderland shirt in 50yrs of supporting. Fairytale return as new Head Coach would give the club/fans a much needed bit of optimism.

We had him at Ipswich, and could have signed him, but the powers that be dithered and Sunderland did not. What a player

I like it. A British manager with Sunderland bona fides. If KLD will get him, let him build his team, and stay out of the way it works. Cheers

Met Kevin a few times when I was a pub manager in Durham, often saw him at our karaoke on Sunday nights, his record goal tally season, lovely lad. Hope he does well in his quest for success in management. It wasn't unusual to see the occasional big star in the pub. Billy Hardy, Billy Hughes, Sunderland players, Newcastle players, wor lass every Sunday night singing with John Budgie Burridge but non as approachable and as humble as Kev Phillips.. ps. I remember singing Stairway to Heaven one karaoke night and Kev Phillips was standing right in front of me lol, he wasn't impressed..

Loved Super Kev up the Baggies , the board not offering him a new contract when he had just helped us get promotion, in my opinion was the difference between us staying up and going down the following season, we played great football but just didn't have anyone even close to Kev's finishing ability. These owners need to give their heads a wobble in regards to sacking mangers so quickly

Great analysis Connor. Agree with everything you said. I've never known so many highs and lows..and living off hope than realistic belief. This is worst then when we were relegated to league one which is stupid as we finished in 6th up from 17th in December. We need delia to stand down Wagner to go Knapper to step up and make brave decisions quickly Academy to start producing and being played in first team Let dead wood go More performance related pay Return to Norwich city a well connected club to fanbase, and vide a versa And above all entertaining attacking football and not playing tippy tappy football Lambert style football needs to come back Club is in a terrible state from top to bottom Summer will be emotional seeing our best players sold However, 4mths and we go again with a totally different team, the only guarantees are a nice pitch and top class support and good local media O.T.B.C.

Mid season I watched 2 or 3 villa games to see what the fuss was given their good start Similar to Spurs, they have many technically poor players and managed to win somehow, probably because the epl is so bad these days Moyes' Everton, who were 5th in their time, would wipe the floor with those novices at thfc and avfc The other day someone was on about odegard. Short memories. In the major matches mid season, for many games he was poor, same as saka, even afc fans flagged that. Come to think of it, Bolton with okocha and speed were better than the current spurs and villa teams

Shocking decision from Raj to withdraw the contract. I will get behind the new manager and hope to be proved wrong, but I could really see us improving under Phillips. He improved our strikers massively, mark of a good coach down in the national league is to improve the squad you have. Wish him all the best in management. 🫡
