I've been using Neutron 3 Advanced and Ozone 9 Advanced for about a year now and fellow artists have noticed the improvement in the final results of our shared original music. There is so much information in this video that highlights the fact that I have a ways to go before I maximize my use of the full potential of these awesome plugins. Thanks for this tutorial and I know I'll be back to focus in on some of these tips for even better results.

Thank you for the refresher on why I bought this plugin a year ago. I've been mastering one song for a bit now and I forgot everything I should be doing. (I only record a few songs a year.) This video brings me back to start, and with all the notes a took from it, I should be able to get something much cleaner. 😊

I have 08 Advanced. I use the exciter and maximizer a lot. I missed the O9 offers, because I often tune out when I see an Izotope "loyalty offer" or "sale." There's about one iZotope sale a year that makes sense, and sometimes I just miss that by accident. But thats not your fault; you're not in the marketing dept. Ozone is a great product, and thanks so much for doing this video, I know it takes a *lot* - a huge amount - of work to do a video like that ! : )

Been using Ozone 5 for like almost since it came out in 2011. Saved me out of numerous headaches. The backside is that you can easily get used to using the same 2-3 presets you've saved on everything, which makes it sound fine, but you neglect the fine tuning and tweaking the miz really needs to sound great.

It's a good collection that fits in one plugin slot. Sometimes I'll mix and match though, or maybe just use one or two of the detachable plugins. I think Ozone got a bad reputation around the late 2000s because people were just running their mixes through presets and destroying them, but it's a great tool if done from scratch.

What a fabulous video! Thank you Geoff. I have a question: I’m a novice and at this point I don’t trust my engineering skills but I need to release my music soon. Would I be able to achieve a high quality mix/master using Ozone presets exclusively? This question could apply to Neutron as well.
@ManchesterMusic

Presets + some tweaking. Honestly, I'd say Assistant Pass + tweaking. The assistant is like a custom preset based on your audio. The presets in the menu have no idea what you're working with and are a bit of a shot in the dark compared to the assistant which listens to the audio and pushes you in a direction based on what it heard and the 'tone' or 'vibe' you're after.

I dont always use them but mix and match / alternate with some of the plugin alliance plugins depending on the sound im looking for. I use the AI on all of them and adjust/ turn off modules depending on what im looking for and what they do. Great tools that get better every year.

This was a great detailed video and perfect timing as I'm considering trying out some masters. A couple of questions - the master Rebalance tool only allows you to correct one of the 3 correct? Vocals, bass and drums only but not 2 things? And lastly, I've stayed away from mixing and also mastering because my mixing room is decent but not perfect so the ME can then fix and polish certain aspects of the material I may not be able to hear with accuracy, especially the low end. So the question is how do you overcome that dilemma of mastering in the same imperfect room with Ozone 9?
@ManchesterMusic
@ManchesterMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Correct. You can only rebalance one with Ozone. That being said you could have 3 instances of Ozone loaded on the channel to alter bass, drums and vocals if you like. Or you could use iZotope RX and use Music Rebalance there for even more control. To master audio in a suboptimal room you could work to improve the room or lean into metering tools like Tonal Balance Control and other metering suites to help make up for what you have trouble hearing.
@DreamsongsProductions

Interesting - the Mastering Assistant screen (after you make your initial selections) looks nothing like screen when I demo'd Ozone 9 Advanced about a month ago. From what I understand Pro and Advanced are not necessarily the same program. Pro gets goodies before (if at all) Advanced gets them. Keep in mind that Pro is the subscription version and Advanced is the you but it you own it version (no sub). Also no mention is made of the genre selections.
@ManchesterMusic
@ManchesterMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Right. As of the time of this comment, the Tone cards that follow an Assistant pass are exclusive to Ozone Pro. Can you say more about 'genre selections'?
@musicman8942
@musicman8942 2 жыл бұрын
@@ManchesterMusic What's a tone card? The only iZotope program I know of that has them is Nectar. My bad - the genre selections are NOT in Master Assistant but in Tonal Balance Control. Apologies for that bit of confusion.
@ManchesterMusic
@ManchesterMusic 2 жыл бұрын
The tone cards appear after the Assistant Pass. No worries on genre. The genres in TBC are actually built into Ozone Pro's Assistant in interesting ways. When the Assistant performs a pass in Ozone Pro, it's actually using some intelligence to determine which genre you're working with (the same 12 genres from TBC) and sets parameters accordingly, also taking into account other information.

Great tutorial, proberly one of the best, but!!!! Would have been nice if you used '"Gain Match'" when AB'ing ... also, one thing i wish ozone would bring in is auto gain. When using references... no matter how close you get them visualy or by ear, you will always favour the track your mastering over the ref in terms of loudness.. Don't get me wrong bud. Like your videos. It's just a comment...
@ManchesterMusic
@ManchesterMusic 2 жыл бұрын
It’s funny because the commenters fall into two camps A) I can’t hear the difference B) Gain match! UR CHEATING Ultimately I’d rather have people hear the processing, especially for an hour long tutorial, as opposed to struggling to hear it.
@compoundaudio
@compoundaudio 2 жыл бұрын
@@ManchesterMusic Ozone has a gain match tool so that when ur processing the audio it keeps the input/output level the same. It's a more precise way to hear what ur doing over "louder sounds better" How is that cheating? If anything. As for auto gain. Instead of using a different track for reference. Use the pre-master your working on so you can AB a before and after of the same track at equal loudness... Again this will let you hear the difference in real-time rather than having to manually alter the levels to match...
