Hell just the intro alone hits hard --- This story happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. It is already over. Nothing can be done to change it. It is a story of love and loss, brotherhood and betrayal, courage and sacrifice and the death of dreams. It is a story of the blurred line between our best and our worst. It is the story of the end of an age. A strange thing about stories -- Though this all happened so long ago and so far away that words cannot describe the time or the distance, it is also happening right now. Right here. It is happening as you read these words. This is how twenty-five millennia come to a close. Corruption and treachery have crushed a thousand years of peace. This is not just the end of a republic; night is falling on civilization itself. This is the twilight of the Jedi. The end starts now. Damn

As for my favorite Star Wars novel if I may, easily "I, Jedi.". I loved how it was less a journey about becoming a Jedi and more about a man just trying to find his wife.

Yeah I loved imperial/republic commandos by Karen Travis. Really explored the clones as characters in a way never really seen before . It did explore the commanders differences and mandelorian culture. Though her focus on mandelorian culture may be a bit much especially when not al her books focus on mandelorians. I loved the focus on the transformation into storm troopers and changes to the imperial military as early empire is one of my favored timelines in starwars . Though different I feel the clone wars did an amazing job with that too as the commandos were always separate from regular clones in a way. The clone commandos books were half clone half mandelorian. The clones in the clone wars didn’t have any of the mandelorian culture stuff but were still fleshed out as clones in a way the commandos weren’t. I personally felt she always should’ve wrote a book about mandelorians maybe during the mandelorian wars or something instead of fitting mando stuff in everything .

We have a lot of the same favorites, for very similar reasons. RC Series is easily in my top three of all time, and Triple Zero in particular. LOVE the whole deep- dive into Mandalorian culture, and the language just cements it for me. Whenever a book/show/movie does that it just takes it to another level for me. And I was honestly so grateful for all those connections, and Boba and Mirta's arc being in Sacrifice when I re read it recently. That storyline felt like a hug from an old friend and was very a welcome distraction from what was happening to Mara - my all time favorite character (obviously). And as much as I hate the fact it happened, I think it was a worthy send off. I know some people disagree, but I feel like they're not giving enough credit to how damn powerful Jacen was by that point. And she got so so close to getting him too at one point in their fight

Very good list, you even peaked my interest for those I have not yet read like shatterpoint, and millieum falcon. Darth bane trilogy was a master piece, outbound flight I want to re-read. Death troopers was amazing. Star by star, edge of victory, rebel dawn/dream, betrayel, the new jedi order books that Sean Williams did (I can't remember the title but it was like a trilogy within njo towards the end) and unifying force was like deathly Hallows for that series. I would like to see a video game and or CGI film focused on Darth malgus. Doubtful but one can hope.

I’ve been going through your videos for awhile as I began to think more about the old EU more than I had before and was finally considering going back to it after years of hearing many mixed messages of good and bad and seeing the discourse online back and forth between people. I try to approach everything nowadays as case by case where I look at all the facts and try to listen to each side and whether I agree in the end will depend on how I come down on a thing and even if I don’t agree with you or someone else I can still respect you as an individual and everyone has a right to enjoy or dislike whatever it is they are talking about. In the case of Star Wars my history is kind of all over the place as I grew up in the Prequel era but didn’t know what Star Wars was until I heard about it one day because people were talking about Revenge Of The Sith that was set to come out even though I had gotten one or two ships from Attack of the Clones as a random gift and a Darth Maul bike for Christmas which I admittedly never learned to properly ride and to this day at 24 I still can’t ride a bicycle. But it was Revenge of the Sith where I learned about Star Wars proper and I got the 2004 Special Editions and Attack of the Clones and then the Phantom Menace and I got the 03 Clone Wars series and of course saw the film in theatres and I was admittedly younger than you because I was 8 at the time going on 9. I also had made a friend who had spent a longer time with Star Wars and became kind of my teacher and while we bonded and became friends over many things like Marvel, Yugioh and watching films we were probably too young to watch like Terminator it was Star Wars that was our big connecting point. I’d buy the action figures and I had a Boba Fett birthday cake. The EU was something though that kind of remained a mystery to me even as I got onto the internet and would go online and read about characters from that era or hear about the concepts but nobody not even my friend could give me clear ideas on whether it was good or not and the few things people told me were people that dismissed it and eventually I just assumed they were right and I didn’t take much stock in it and also because there was a lot I again was a little daunted in what to read as I wasn’t much of a reader beyond reading Marvel comics when I was younger. This has come back to haunt me now admittedly because I have started buying more stuff I want to read and am better at reading now and I haven’t scratched the surface of what I want to go through but not everyone is adept at this sort of thing when they are young. As I got a little older I followed TCW from the beginning where I saw the movie in theatres and collected the toyline and other action figure lines like the Legacy Collection and 30th Anniversary. It was admittedly in terms of toy collecting a bit of a greedy time since you could get nearly anything you wanted and I guess Hasbro saw that circa 2014-2015 and decided to make things go back to 1997. Watching Star Wars stop motions with action figures was also an early thing I did online that again makes me nostalgic for childhood and those innocent days. When I got more adept with online stuff and KZfaq some of my first online bonding experiences were because of watching and talking about TCW and I was young at the time and a bit more impressionable as when I would be exposed to stuff I didn’t hear before I would begin to reconsider my viewpoints and admittedly would try and retroactively change how I feel based on what other people were saying like when Red Letter Media did their infamous Star Wars reviews they along with trying to reconcile TCW as part of the universe and not again knowing the EU properly made me look on Prequel era with a bit of a negative attitude that now I don't have. I have my issues I’ve always had even before watching those reviews but I admittedly don’t need the criticisms they’ve made to inform my take nor should I try to pigeon hold a TV series that came later to a movie series that came before it. When Disney bought Star Wars I had gone to the 2012 New York Comic Con not long before where I met the late Carrie Fisher but I also decided to buy Star Wars books properly for the first time. Part of my lack of awareness with the EU was because I never saw many EU books around in a book section or if I did I again didn’t pay them attention of mind despite them being Star Wars because I wasn’t reading. But I decided to buy Plagueis and the first two Thrawn books. I had been given old copies years ago by my cousin who knew someone who had given him of Darkforce Rising and Last Command and again I did try to read them at the time but couldn’t. I didn’t have the Darkforce copy anymore but I still had Last Command lying around so I didn’t need to buy that but considering how beat up it is I kind of wish I did before the Legends brand would be added for future releases. All these years later and I’m still going through Plagueis and picking it up and down again whenever I’m in a position where I have to read a book and I still haven’t touched the Thrawn books. I did get the Tarkin book which is and probably will be the only new canon book I buy because I thought I was going to dive into those at the time but I’m not. It’s Luceno though so it wasn’t bad and I do like what I’ve read of Plagueis and am curious to check out his works. I also got the Tales from Jabba’s Palace book and read that but that is admittedly short. I was optimistic about the new Star Wars at the time and while I’m not as jaded now as other people I am getting to a point where anything new with Star Wars I’m kind of just going through the motions. I’ll watch a new thing and if I like it I will say so and if I don’t then I’ll say so. For all the faults TCW and Rebels have as well as Mandalorian I still like them the most out of everything screen wise in terms of newer material and even TCW was admittedly a precursor to what Disney would do. That being said the more deep dive I do into the EU and the more I hear EU fans like yourself explain your frustrations with TCW I do now understand and hear you in a way I didn’t before and admittedly I feel like I’ve contributed to the problem by not giving the EU much of a fair shake over the years because of my lack of interest in wanting to read or seek the material out or again buying too much into other opinions about the EU that were negative. It was a lot of back and forth between various people and I didn’t know who to listen too and now I’m getting to a point where I just want to take stock and be more confident in what I want to do and what I want to read and watch and not try to keep up with others nor the new canon especially since not a lot is interesting to me. I’ll watch the screen material because it’s easy to digest but unlike the old EU where after looking back and hearing about it now seems interesting I probably will never do so for the current canon books or comics even if they do get an ending down the road. The unofficial ending of the EU admittedly does help in wanting to go back because I at least know there’s a point where it’ll stop rather than waiting for something to come out or end which was another reason it was hard to jump in when I was a kid because of the ongoing narrative being a bit too much for my young brain to muster. Any Marvel Comic I read which was Spider-Man I would usually go to the back and read the reprints of the old comics because they were easy to follow and reminded me of the 90s cartoon more compared to what was going on at that time so this stretched to other things I was into. TCW will still always be a part of me because it was a part of Star Wars that left an impression on me in the way older EU lore did for others but that doesn’t mean I’m not blind to it’s faults and even before I realised the retconning it did I still had issues with it anyway when it came to certain stories and wasted potential even before Disney cancelled it the first time. Rebels is the same way and those final few episodes did come to me in a tough place in my life so them dealing with death and grief at the end of that will always mean something me as will the online discussion I had with friends who were TCW fans because it was again my earliest exposure to online interaction and despite the disagreements sometimes I feel more nostalgia for that era whereas now I kind of just want to be done with online discussion because we can’t act like reasonable people at least from my experience looking into certain situations. I can now separate the TCW material from the EU and I think as I get into the EU material more and if I do enjoy the books and comics I still will be able to have that disconnect. Maybe it’s because I’d be coming in mostly as an outsider because hearing about stuff isn’t the same as reading it. Some people can’t have that disconnect because that’s not how they operate or because they were readers of the material first and that’s cool too. Again everybody has their own way of looking at things what works for me doesn’t work for everyone. (To Be Continued In Next Comment. Went on too long. Sorry)
@StephenMurphy96
@StephenMurphy96 3 жыл бұрын
(Comment Continued From Previous one) It’s easy to get wrapped up in scuffling of the old verses the new and people being frustrated and while the frustration can be valid there is such a thing as too much of it and I miss the idea of discussion where even when people disagreed we would allow other people to live and let live and enjoy the parts they liked about a thing even if someone else didn’t and vice versa if some else didn't enjoyed something than the other person was okay with it and didn't force them to like something and pit these two eras against one another like this. We are all fans of Star Wars in our own way and if you have your own sections you particularly enjoy than feel free to enjoy them whether it’s old EU or New Canon but we shouldn’t be trying to butt in on others and trying to talk down to them for liking something that you don’t care for because it’s not fair to do that. We’re all in this together there’s no need for division. At the end of the day I stayed with this channel is because though Tad has made his viewpoints on Filoni and new canon clear I don’t get the impression when you make your frustrations known you aren’t trying to attack anyone personally even when I watched the videos on your other channel that some could consider your viewpoints as that I think the message was easy to understand that you want TCW out of Legends with the Clone Wars Multi Media project being considered the EU's version of the War as it was before and TCW to be the new canon version of the War. Anytime something Legends related makes it into new canon people are really interested whether it’s putting Thrawn in Rebels way back when or the recent news of bringing Durge into the new canon and he’s seemingly how he was in the old canon and not what they planned for in TCW before it was changed to Cad Bane. Even when I first heard of that I did find that bothersome and Filoni did say later it was smarter that Lucas suggested the idea of Bane because if they changed Durge then he wouldn’t be Durge and that wouldn’t be right and it was because of animation budget from what I’ve gathered because they didn’t have the budget for his regenerative abilities which even now despite the upgrade in the CGI animation with Season 7 and the upcoming Bad Batch I think they’d have a hard time pulling it off so it’s better he stays for now in whatever new comic they are doing. Also whenever a new Legends era figure like Revan or Jaina is released or news of the Micro series appearing on Disney+ comes out people respond to it enthusiastically which they should because it’s what they love being legitimately recognised even if some people still won’t care for the idea of old EU characters being brought into the Disney era. They are kind of sitting on missed opportunities here by not just reviving the brand as it was but still obviously doing their own thing so the other audience is happy too and now nobody is complaining. But the main reason I stayed watching is because Tad broke things down into an easy and concise manner while also making the lore sound interesting and make me want to learn which is always what I’ve wanted someone to do and by taking the TCW stuff out it helps streamline things and helps me understand better how things were before those elements were added. Anytime I would hear about the EU or look at it in some way it all felt daunting and people made it sound daunting. Now I actually want to explore it because it's being told to me in an interesting, concise and also inviting way. I remember buying a few EU characters in the toyline like Revan and Malak because they looked cool and I knew a little of their history by looking them up but not much and I do want to go back and collect action figures I missed. So in conclusion and knowing me I’ve forgotten a lot despite rambling for so long and I apologise and I probably am not coherent at all, I do thank you for your channel and videos and giving me a clear view into the EU that I’ve been trying to find for sometime that hopefully will help me navigate it better and now I can finally deep dive into stuff I’ve been curious about that attracted many fans like you to Star Wars in the first place. I’ve written down some of these novels to pick up but again I’ll take note of some of them and obviously I’ll finish the Thrawn trilogy and Plagueis someday. I hope you are doing well and I wish you well in the future and continued best of luck on your videos and I will continue to watch your stuff with great interest and I will eventually come back and give a proper opinion on some novels and stuff when I’ve read them and spent time with them but I just wanted to get this out since I’ve been feeling this for awhile and this new video allowed me to share my opinion. May The Force Be With You

@@StephenMurphy96 Your comments are well thought out and insightful on the situation. I was once a TCW fan, when I was younger, knowing little to no knowledge on the EU, and I wasn't much into reading. When I came across the video, I was a bit skeptical, because I thought TCW can fit into Legends. However after looking at the evidence, made me realized how much retconning and damage it did to the EU timeline, and that it needed to be remove from it. Unfortunately, not all TCW fans are very receptive on the video, and tried to refute his points. Some even claim that the EU fans are Toxic like Mr. Red 88, who believes that the EU was never canon to begin. Robert Smith initially agreed with him, however stopped after realizing how much toxicity is being spread. I responded to Mr. Red 88, saying how there are TCW fanboys out there and have more influence due to how popular TCW really is. I responded how he is repeating the same misconceptions that plagued the EU and its fans, due to people using George's quotes out of context. He accusing me of being bias and mockingly repeated my comment on spreading toxicity. I tried to show evidence, he said I didn't, I thought he was lying, until I realized that I didn't put the links in. Even when I did, he's still thinks it was never canon. It's almost like he never saw the video or the evidence presented, and so stubbornly believe those misconceptions. I eventually stopped commenting, because all I'm doing is letting me drag me down that path. Its very frustrating, and only ironically proves my point of himself becoming toxic and bias while accusing me of doing the same thing. Now you might be thinking that I'm doing this out or recognition and attention, but I'm doing this because to warn you. Although EU fanboys do exist and should be avoided, TCW fanboys, I feel are more perverlent because of how popular the show is, and are more willing to believe this misconceptions brought up by diseny Lucas, because they either never look at the EU or its material, or are biased to the point of attacking anyone who dare talks about the show's flaws. While the EU fans are constantly being attacked, because of their stories were never canon, in the eyes of other fans. Its sad to see how broken the community has become over the years, the sequels only worsen the divide to the point where Filoni and his shows are the only thing keeping the franchise alive at this point.

It shows the suffering of Vader the first few months in his armour such as difficulty moving breathing, understanding the cost it did to his abilities in the force and fighting forcing him to adapt and even face difficulties in fights against former Jedi , his difficulty separating Anakin who he was with what he is now, his feelings about Padme, Vader’s drive to learn more under his master and about the ways of the with.Iy also shows the lives of former Jedi and how they resist or try to forget in the early months of the empire and its formation .It really is an amazing book that you need to pick up.

One suprise book I’d add to my list is Boba Fett fight to service by Terry Binson. It’s a younger reader book but is great. It follows boba fett right after his father dies with only his fathers helmet with lessons, and instructions to survive left in it. He has to contend with hut gansgsters, dangerous bounty hunters like aurra sing ,clones and how he relates to them and what the true legacy of his father is, and powerful characters like count dooku who may use him for their own means. It’s a good story and well written

28:39 Personally I think it works better if Nelvan happens after Tythe... mainly because Anakin's robotic arm gets destroyed on Nelvan with it being fixed as Windu informing him and Obi Wan about Coruscant, and I don't see Anakin going through an entire battle without his saber hand.

@Manda-LORE Currently reading Shatterpoint and Labyrinth of Evil, just a bit of a question, after Depa falls into a coma was Obi wan made council member in her place in the pre-TCW era or was that another retcon? Also apparently Ventress was supposed to die in Labyrinth of Evil, if she was to die in that novel rather than the comic obsession having her escape to an unknown area of the galaxy, how would it have changed your view of Ventress?

It's very good, I highly recommend it. especially if you're into the early inter-war period between the clone wars and galactic civil war. It also gives insights on how ordinary people viewed Palpatine and the propaganda he spun surrounding the Jedi. Lots of details about Vader adjusting to his new life and the challenges he had to overcome in his new body.

@Manda-LORE thank you very much for the suggestion! Now I will make sure it's one of the first books I read after the Revenge of the Sith novel when I get there. Just this past week I finished not only my first Legends novel, but my first Star Wars novel as a whole (surprising even though I've been a fan of the franchise my whole life), Darth Plagueis, and i thought it was absolutely fantastic. I do kind of agree with you that Maul did get done kind of dirty in the novel, however it doesn't ruin anything for me considering the fact that Maul was only a small part in the story, and that Maul was done justice in other media.

Lol what your father didn't allow you to go see ROTS in the theatres? Dude I was five when I saw it. Probably the reason why General Grievous is my fav. I agree the novelization is truly great and in a ton of ways better than the movie. Labyrinth Of Evil is a awesome novel as a whole. One of the best scenes is Grievous's flashback. He's in the bacta tank after the shuttle crash while his wives and children pray for him.

Funny how we learned from look that shatterpoint wasn't at all a talent depending technique like healing or psychometry, but only rare cuz it was rarely tought. So the fact that windu during his time was among the few who knew how, makes the rarity of it another example what a garbage personality he had. It's just like his claim to have invented a lightsaber form n mastered as the only person without going dark, where it's just his translated to narcicistic way of saying, he has started using a form known as THE sith form over all others, but never really used it correctly n to it's fullest which is how he managed to not b fully corrupted. He hasn't invented but stolen n neither mastered but failed to use it, cuz it's supposed to b used by a darksider to b most effective. Selfrestraint n the restraint it puts on the technique's capabilities is exactly the stuff it was created to get rid off. The book is really well written n the story was cool but it also just made it even clearer that he was like the embodiment of everything wrong with the order. Joda at least can b in part excused by his distorted perspective due to his huge lifespan. Windu has a very huge ego for a jedi n deals with it like a conman. He is the next level of "a certain point of view".

I can't really argue except two things: Timothy Zahn and the book that started it all at #9? What's with all the Sith and Battle novels? To me Star Wars is about the delight of headlong blasting in a space hot rod doing heroics. Not reading about endless lines of faceless clone slaughter or comic-evil ranting of a mind in need of medication. I have lived in the real world, seen murder, death, and true evil. It really doesn't seem a fun read. The Slith are just disgusting perverts (PG-13 style) and I'm just not into that.

@Manda-LORE I know. I was just saying, not really arguing. It's all about the jinking about in an Xwing or dodging the Star Destroyers making battle cries. Been in battles. After about 5 seconds it just becomes a blur of reaction and training. No pretty organized ranks. Just noise and dirt. Same with evil. Think tortured animals and unspeakable deeds on children. No "rules" involved. No "glory".

@yissnakkjr8230 I understand. That explains all the Murder Porn passing for dramas on TV where dramatic formula is the excuse for violent imagery would have banned it in previous years. For me it's the headlong rush of heroic action not precise arguments over tech specs and details that wouldn't work in the heat of action written by those who were never in action.
