Normally, Mikey is the tactical one in these challenges, but it’s impressive to see John come up with an efficient champion team so quickly.

I mean wasn't John once considered a worthy rival by Wolfy? He just sometimes likes to play out gags too much like bringing a Magikarp to the SV version of this to play on the Feesh gag, but he DID beat Radical Red with a Frog-only team and that's harder than it seems it's NOT an easy Game.

Honestly, Mikey being on Set and John being on Switch probably made all the difference when it came to battling

Mikey’s priority of time over quality when it came to Metagross was really what led to John winning. Ground/Steel/Psychic coverage could’ve all been done by Metagross.

Even in the hands of an NPC who can't manage King's Shield well, an Aegislash is still an Aegislash. Blade Form's base 140 attacking stats shouldn't be approached so frivolously.

It was really cool seeing John flex his competitive knowledge in this video, he deserved the win, but I feel kinda bad for Mikey, he fumbled loads today and if he would've kept his cool things could've been different, but it was a fun video. Though it's brutal, I hope the next first to beat the champion is against Cynthia.

Yeah, as Mikey said earlier in the video himself. He isn't really the competitive player, and the competitive pokemon mind works different from one who doesn't play it for the competitive side. And I like how John mentions he isn't good at team building, he just uses whatever he likes, which I can relate to as that is kinda how I played competitive myself xd

you know what's kinda cool, there are 3 Lizard starters. Imagine those 3 in a legends game: Charmander, Sobble, and Treecko. We just need a water cat, fire turtle, and water monkey starter. We also need a fire frog.

These videos are so fun! I love seeing the friendship between Mikey and John. While John had the clear advantage here, he was so kind to Mikey the whole time, always giving him advice and listening to Mikey's strategizing. Warning him about Aegislash, but still being nice when Mikey stress-forgot Leon's lead.

Even tho John had the advantage starting the tournament ahead and playing on switch mode, I believe that Mike made too many mistakes that would cost him the battle against Leon, plus he got two non dinamax opponents that saved him a lot of time, while John had a mostly clean tournament. So if both where playing on the same settings I think that Mike would get to Leon first but lose, giving the chance to John that would just clean up after him. P.S.: I LOVE this kind of video.

I think sword and shield are still good games. Yes the main story was.... weird. But the games run really well. Scarlet and Violet LOOK beautiful, but it runs pretty bad in some places. If they could combine them for the next game....

Real talk, it looks like Mikey got so caught up on the whole "haha leon cant use aegislash right" thing that he ended up severely underestimating Aegislash itself. That thing is a menace on the battlefield.

@@gengarzilla1685 Mikey is simply not the best battler espically under pressure. He even admits it which is why he stays away from competative and nuzlockes. He was freaking out about Piers that battle could have been over way sooner but he was too focused on super effective moves and setting up when it wasn't needed. John also used to do competative so he naturally knows what to do when given a team sheet of an opponent

This video really shined in John’s previous competitive performance and how critical his decisions are and how quick he can make those choices that matter for the many possibilities of opponent Pokémon and move-sets. The Dragapult Counter on Grimmsnarl was glorious and Tsareena dominated.

I was listening so intently to their commentary that for once, "It is I, Grunty Boi", scared me since his first appearance. So, we come to the battle between Leon. Watching this fight was stressful. Congrats, John. BTW, I had no idea what switch and set was until this video as I thought it was an automatic thing and not an option to be turned off. I only just recently watched Pokemon Journeys the series fully to the end.

Oh, man, that's rough for Mikey. A few unfortunate missteps cost him big. And John is no slouch of an opponent for this sort of thing, either. This was cool, though, I'd love to see future challenges with this general format, racing to catch a team and beat the Champion with it.
