In this cheesy catch and cook fishing video:
Heiko Winkler and Dan from Florida Fishing Couple head back out into the Key Largo Bay. It's still windy so we decide to go fishing in the Key Largo Bayside which is a little protected from the wind. Our goal today is to find live bait in the key largo bay here in south florida.
We do find live bait so consider this a how to catch live bait. We will be fishing with live bait in the Key Largo sound. The live bait we catch are called pilchards. They are usually a few inches big and make great live bait when fishing in Key Largo.
So now that we have live bait I can show you how to catch snapper. Hook the live bait and throw it on some structure. It shouldn't be long before a mangrove snapper is in the area! And that is how to catch mangrove snapper.
It's great the variety of key largo fishing there is. When it's too windy we can stay in the key largo bay and still have a great day of fishing. We catch 2 nice mangrove snapper. This will be a cheesy mangrove snapper catch and cook.
I don't do this often but I will make the snapper fish with cheese. It's a cheese catch and cook! I'm glad we figured out how to catch bait. How to catch live bait to be specific and then we could catch the fish which ultimately will let me cook fish.

try using heavier weight on sabiki to avoid those tangles, the heavier weight doesn't let the bait swim up and tangle

You can build a small dehooker from a large paperclip. Just bend a 180 into the end and attach the other end to a handle of your liking. They work great and cost nothing to make.

Loved the video. Whenever you use butter, never put it first. Use a small amount of olive oil instead. When you have a couple minutes left, toss the butter on it. That applies to almost any situation where your directly placing the butter on the grill because butter will burn at a lower heat and it burns fast. Make sure you pull the meat before the butter burns, so time your butter drop accordingly. Just try it out. Again, awesome video.

The cast net in the bay gets super dirty and almost impossible to clean

With Snapper that size... It would be a lot more efficient to descale and gut them and fry them whole... less waste.

If I had a bigger pan I would totally do that but I don't at my temporary place. But the crabs can get nice and juicy on the carcasses =)

Nice mangos! nice to catch them fatties and not have to be offshore. +1 for the heavier weight on the sabiki, those tangles are a headache. and another plug for making a dehooker out of a large paperclip. Easy.

The less you handle baits the longer they live is the word on the street

When you handle smaller baitfish such as those, the scales are sensitive and can effect the life of the bait dramatically if scaled too much.

Hey guys love the videos keep them coming. I was reading the new sport fishing magazine and it had a great write up on the hoop net you use. I think an easy solution would have been for Dan would have been to tie a knot in the back of the net and then send out into the water. But check out that magazine had some great info. Also Heiko I am sure you hear this a bunch but would love to fish with you I do a bunch of fishing in Cali and would like to see if some of the things I have learned out there would work on the east coast. Anyway good luck keep up the good work! Brian

dude you got so little meat from both of those fish. take a little more time with your fillet, i dont go as fast as the people on youtube cause if i do i dont harvest as much, and you owe it to the animal to not just trash its meat, you killed it. on those size and larger snappers, you can even do something called swamp chicken, look it up its a neat way fishermen in louisiana harvest 100% of snapper meat. could even be a KZfaq vid idea.
