Mozilla is a mismanaged cluster of companies that's comfortable with the paycheck they get from Google for bundling their browser. They have little incentive to actually make their browser product better, and with chromium being the de facto standard platform, they can't afford to innovate with new features, as websites likely won't support them. They've also been branching out into other ventures, like running paid alternatives to web services that are dressed up as "more private", but in reality, Mozilla couldn't give less of a sh about actually protecting your privacy (by default). I've been using Firefox for about as long as I can remember, and even though I still like the browser, it feels like a dying project.

@antikommunistischaktion

You might want to prepare to switch back to a Chromium based browser eventually. Remember who Mozilla's sugar daddy is? It's Google, and I imagine Google will "politely recommend" to Mozilla to deprecate Manifest V2 in Firefox in the future. Meanwhile Chromium based browsers like Brave and Vivaldi aren't necessarily beholden to Google as they aren't funded by Google. Vivaldi has a built-in adblocker and iirc Brave has stated they're just not going to deprecate V2.

This is a very good way for Google to kill Chrome. Many extensions developers will not be able to continue to support Chrome or it will be too much of a hassle. Gradually, Chrome will have less extensions and many, that remain may have impaired functionality. People will attribute this to Google and to Chrome, than to the extensions (and rightly so) and will ditch Chrome for a better browser. Which means in the long run Chrome will lose big on its market share. So, in this case the bad may be for the better.

Pihole is orthogonal to browser-based adblocking. It works at the level of DNS reqs.

yeh i would just rather have the consistency in some of the changes they're implementing. this way, when the Dems claim it was "Russian Bots", the logs for some webapp requiring authentication will indicate whether the "bots" browsers used the attestation in Chrome.

I only watch videos I really want to, otherwise I get AI to summarise the transcript and give me the quickie. I want to reduce distractions and control my attention. If ads or google are not helping my brain, I am not interested. Find things that supplement, make easier, help people do what they are doing. I get really cringy being bombarded by billboards and assistants. I have become very aware of the leaches that can suck my brain. And I am very much not giving them or it my mind. I don't engage with video streaming platforms or tv services. I might watch Euronews, CNN, or local government news channel. I am looking to control who or what has my attention. I want to create my own local space and branch out where I will, in a healthy way. These platforms are restrictive and controlling and exploitive. I would like to be in control of what I create. I will like to be in control. Have property. I want an internet I own. Maybe people could have internet numbers, and distributors have to dial it up, and only what is chosen to be shared. A universal identity platform. Maybe.
