Manila folder 777-300ER - Wing update - Inboard flapsssss!

At long last, after having started the designs in 2017 and taking a multi-year break before picking them up again last year, I've built a (successful) test piece for the double-slotted inboard flaps. Safe to say they're working as intended! Probably one of the more challenging parts of the wing as there's all kinds of complicated shapes and mechanics at play, but that's thankfully all behind me. So cool to see it all come together like this.
Next up will be the outboard (single-slotted) flaps :D
Feel free to hit me up with any questions you have! And thanks as always for watching.

Definitely. Especially with something this complex, doing it in 2D pretty much guarantees things with slip through the cracks, which is why I've been building these test pieces. If I were designing in 3D, I would probably have less of a need to build everything out.

Nope, just paper and glue. No oils or waxes. I was very concerned about how much friction I might be dealing with, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. I'll probably post another more detailed/nerdy video about some of the solutions I came up with, if you're curious.

My designs are, shall we say, heavily inspired by the real thing, in the sense that they have all the same general pieces, but of course I've had to make some significant modifications for the smaller scale and the fact that they're made from paper. I wouldn't say they're a 1:1 though. The real thing has a completely different drive mechanism, for instance (rotating tube down the length of the wing, vs sliding strip for mine).

I cut the folders/sheets down to size and print at home. I have the Canon Pixma Pro-100 which can print up to 13x24" which is great for larger pieces like the wings. In terms of the paper I'm using, I have two different thicknesses. This is the "regular" thickness for finer details: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IXM3AW/ And this is the thicker paper for structural parts: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013CME9E/

Luca, I raised the question a few years back, along the lines of 'Where will he store/display it when he's finished'? You kindly took the time to reply, to the affect (if my memory serves me correctly) that you had somewhere (awesome?) arranged to display it to fully ahow it's workings etc but couldn't give details. Is this option still available to you? It would be such a shame if this model doesn't end up in a museum, or a company's head office, for two examples. Do you have plans for it, when completed?

My intention is certainly to have it displayed somewhere, but haven't gotten anything locked down yet. The future of flight museum next to the 777 assembly line at Paine Field in Everett, WA was one option. I'll definitely share its final resting place!
