THANKS BAWSE!!! Nice to see this one in fabulous quality. The one thing I remember about this game is that interception in the endzone that Steve threw towards halftime (here at 7:57), and how even at 37 years old Steve was able to race down a defensive back ten years younger than he was. Sure he had an angle, but Steve was bookin it. Play ended up not counting anyway, but it was still remarkable to see the athleticism for Steve at that age. Gawd I miss having that sky maestro on our squad T.T

49ers had these kinds of games in the mid points of seasons after that 1994 title run. They lost to the mediocre New Orleans and Carolina in back to back weeks at home in 1995 (Panthers expansion season). They had to come back from 21-0 to beat the hapless Bengals in 1996 and then this game against the eventual 3-13 Colts. But, to their enduring credit (even though I couldn't stand them), they typically found a way to win when not at their best.

That season was great for the Niners offensively (1st in rushing, 2nd in passing in the NFC), but also signified our defense was crap. Moreover, it was a breakout year for T.O. and the following year was the Fall of the Roman Empire.

I have this one in my personal collection and like the Marino game this one showed that Manning was something truly special despite the crazy TD to INT disparity in his numbers. You could see in this and other games his rookie year that Manning was NOT a finished product as he would look down his receivers a bit but already at that young stage of his career he had a good grasp of the offense and how to lead his team. This is encouraging I think for those who are fans of the Jags and Trevor Lawrence. I don't think he's gonna be another Manning but you can tell he's advanced but he's handcuffed by a dysfunctional team and a coach so out of his depth. At least Manning had a dependable and professional coach in Mora even though they did have a bit of a falling out at the end. (though Bill Polian has denied that on his podcast)

There was never a dull moment, and he gave the NFL some of its best games and highlights. He should be mentioned in every GOAT conversation. A true competitor and warrior. Imagine having to keep up football production with Jerry Rice, the BEST player in the history of the NFL. Period.
