Greed by these interested parties, led by late 1800's Dole executives is much documented. Under the Monarch there was no abject poverty, Hawaiians had the highest literacy rate in the Pacific, were ruled by their support of a world class, highly educated Monarchy that worked for the indigenous people. After killing off over 90% of these people post contact, just like in the Americas of the northern and southern Hemispheres by European conquered, Hawaii still cooperated with the western business interests until Dole and Friends put together a militia, threatened to kill off the locals if the Monarchy refused to cede eve more and total power over Hawaii. Liesthese greedy interlopers told a very different story to the standing U. S. President McKinley. He gave permission to Dole to overthrow the wrongly accused Monarchy as a threat to American lives abroad. Nothing was further from the truth. So, American business interests held sway upon threats to further kill off the indigenous people whom were loyal to the Monarchy. Even today,, the destruction of Hawaiian agriculture requires importation of too many food products and other needed things to live. The Jones Act needs to be repealed as it artificially raises consumer prices. It favors American suppliers by taxing items from the mainland into all the islands. Watch the new Apple production by Jason Mamoa coming out, read James Michener's Hawaii book, read about the current Hawaiian Sovereignty movement, why working Hawaiians can no longer live there, why when making $100,000 a year there taxes leave one with around $68,000 a year spendable, how billionaires are illegally using Property Grant transfers of Hawaiian owned properties to take folks to court to force sales in favor of wealthy non Hawaiians written by haoli (means foreigner in Hawaiian) lawmakers to legally steal on behalf of big business. So, who would date cover this remarkable achievement of the Hawaiian people to continue so openly their cultural practices vs. hula dancers at hotels to entertain tourists only making the rich richer with no regard for the children of this incredibly beautiful culture? Educate yourselves to see the daily realities of these beautiful and still enduring peoples striving against the odds. Which advertiser would date to bring more global attention to the strength and sheer resiliency of Hawaiian culture. It is a magnificent event by the way.
