Excellent Excellent Excellent. Saved me $500. That is what a plumber estimated it would cost me to change it out. I have copper pipes and he would have to sweat and solder. I fixed it myself. Kudos to the instructor for speaking plainly during his presentation. He made it easy.

We have a leak behind the handle of our 300 series faucet and this is perfect direction for taking it apart and replacing the worn parts, thank you.

Easy to follow video. Thanks. Unfortunately, after replacing all parts and following these directions, I've still got a leak like there's no hydrant in place at all. I've tried snugging up the packing nut, looked up the pipe and saw no blockage, and tried snaking a wire up there to help clear any debris. Nada! I'm flummoxed. And I really don't want to replace the entire hydrant. It'd be a much bigger job. Any ideas?

My packing nut fell apart won’t come out ? Now what ?? :-( tried chipping out remaining plastic with flathead but stopped as I was worried I would be stuck without a faucet at all if that didn’t work. Seems that’s the only way to proceed though. Any help appreciated. I have a repair kit with all the parts.

This is the type I have, but the head of the screw came off when I attempted to remove it. I thought the handle would still come off and I would be able to remove the rest of the screw, but even without the head, the handle is still stuck. I have pulled and pulled, and it won't even budge. I'm concerned the previous homeowner epoxied it or something equally ridiculous. Any advice? Should I try turning off the water main and twisting the handle past fully open/closed?

Can a hydrant stem without the spring mechanism at the end be replaced with one having the spring?

If it's just leaking around the handle, do I need to turn the water off if I'm just tightening the packing nut?

Don't the right and left hand packing nuts use different packing?

The white packing nut has right hand threads, not left hand!!!

Ya, I found this too. But the left hand packing nut was also supplied in my repair kit. You can just look at the threads on the packing nut and see which direction is required to tighten

Amber Leeper sometimes the packing gets in the way. retighten the packing nut it may be stopping the handle from closing all the way.

I am trying to remove my 300 series handle, but it is not coming off... is it possible that it is just rusted and needs to be worked off???? everything is see on here and everywhere else shows they come right off....FRUSTRATED....

+sandee Dobbs The screw can make the handle tight. pull and wiggle the handle and it should work off. don't forget they have been together for awhile.

When they made these they obviously used lousy, cheap handle screws that rust easily. You would think they would put a new one in the kit.

I just pulled the stem out and there is no washer and screw in the end. I assume it came out and is up inside somewhere. The adventure is just starting with this piece of crap. It makes sense that if the end washer fits up against something, which I guess it does, otherwise what is it's purpose, that everytime you turn the handle CC you could be unscrewing the brass screw on the end.

So I put a bucket, wedged it up under the spigot and put a strainer from the kitchen on top. Went down and opened the water full blast. The old washer came out but no screw. Anyway I put the stem with new part back in and it works. The old screw could be somewhere along the stem but does not seem to be interfering with the seal.

And is this the reason for the stems with the spring mechanism at the end?
