Mantis X8: bit.ly/2IsQrq3
Recurve and Compound shooters, get ready to change the way you shoot.
Introducing the Mantis X8, an intelligent shooting performance system that can track the movement of your bow through the entire shot process.
While attached to any bow, the X8 analyzes the smallest movement patterns that can be difficult for any coach or archer to see. It streams the data via Bluetooth to an app on your smartphone or tablet that gives you real-time feedback on your shooting mechanics.
View each phase of each shot in comparison to all the others. Analyze consistency, find outliers, and understand what part of your shoot needs improvement. The stability of your hold is quantified and scored (0-100) on the app, giving you the ability to adjust your setup or mechanics and see the impact immediately.

Been using mantis for firearms for about a year and it has GREATLY improved my shooting. The mantis app on my phone gave a bit of a teaser for this about a month ago and I got super excited. Glad to see it's out. Definitely going to be a near future purchase.

Got my X8 two weeks ago. Need now more time to shoot on the range and collect data. I know already I need to work in the bow hand holding the recurve more straight.

Does the app calculate the smallest worthwhile change, CV & standard deviation for the different colour ranges and release data? If not, how can you tell what is significant variance versus noise?

I have one and I've been trying to adapt it to a barebow. I think it will be a great tool BUT, I have few beefs - especially for barebow. The so-called tutorials are more bare than a barebow! This video is the most instruction you'll get. The print, app, and online instructions are minimal. It is IMPERATIVE that it is mounted horizontally and on the SIDE of the bow. Up/down or on the belly/back of the bow will not give you accurate readings. The problem is, most barebows (especially trads) do not have nice flat, vertical surfaces on the sight plane EXCEPT FOR THE SIGHT WINDOW, and affixing the rail in the sight window (inside or out) would almost certainly disqualify the bow under WA rules. Mine is currently affixed just below my grip (W&W TFT-G), but on a surface that is not parallel to the sight plane (not perfectly vertical). As a result, the pitch/cant always shows it "off" by a couple degrees. This then may (?) effect the stability score. I will probably fiddle with creating a suitable on-plane surface using some Sugru or other putty. Response to previous comments: It connects via Bluetooth, so as long as the device and phone stay in range, they stay connected. Turning off your screen shouldn't disconnect your Bluetooth, but that may be an individual phone thing. However, maintaining a live Bluetooth connection may also be a real power hog. Remember, the device is sending hundreds of data points per second. I hope more "how to's" get done on the Mantis X8, especially by coaches with insights on how to best train with it.

Sounds like you are on the right track. I enjoy bare bow also. But my efforts have been more geared to target quick shots as one would often do in hunting, especially small game like squirrels and rabbits. See rabbit, raise and draw quickly, hold for 3 seconds and release. I have even practiced moving target shots with dummy rabbit on a low hanging cable pulley system. I do lose a number of arrows though. I am 68, when I was in my mid-teens, I killed a good number of rabbits and squirrels with a bow and floo-floo arrows. ... I would also try using epoxy to create surfaces to mount this device. It would require using a long carpenter's level to obtain gravity levels by trial and error at 90 degree off sets. Created surfaces can be sanded flat and re-epoxied if needed. If needed to remove, epoxy can be heated slightly or de-solved with acetone and Q-tip.

You need to develop a device for the string hand to plot the release, plucks, dead hand, false starts, etc,
@seanstewart2344
@seanstewart2344 2 жыл бұрын
Seems like that would be a significantly harder device to make/ keep attached because of how much vibration and energy is in the string. Would be cool though, maybe make some kind of smart release strap or glove.

Flight data recorder for a bow. Hummmm. Digital levels and electronic accelerators to record movements. I wonder if it has a small camera to record sight picture .....

This may be a stupid question. I have used golf swing analyzers in the past and they have all had the problem of disconnecting from the phone app when you turn off the screen so i quit using them. will this stay connected to the phone if i turn off the screen and put it in my pocket or will it stay connected? edit: leaving the screen on for a 3hr long Saturday shooting session is not an option.

What i didn't see in this video is how it figures out where you where aiming at the time of release. It seems as if it automatically thinks you are deadcenter when your aiming is stable. But what if your reticle was low right.. how is this data going to help you?
@LancasterArcherySupply
@LancasterArcherySupply 4 жыл бұрын
It doesn't automatically assume you're holding dead center. You might not be aiming at anything at all, in fact. It's not tracking where you are aiming. It's tracking how you get there, how you move once you are preparing to shoot and what happens at the shot and afterwards. If your reticle is low right, but you're holding steady as stone, then all you need to do is move up and left. But if you are holding low right and moving all over the place, then you've got two problems to work on.

🐸🔴🌎 Shianna is very descriptive on what I feel is revolutionary design. PJ is always great and Honestly both of you have sold me. You succeeded in encouraging me to want to own one , but it may be out of my price range as I understand the engineering involved to manufacture and marketing costs, it might be expensive..though I can raise up some cash if it's not astronomical. Wondering the maximum distance the iPad can be away from you? Would iPad IOS 9.3 be compatible? Wow no doubt that this would absolutely increase an archers strive for perfection. The game just got bumped up another level. A marksman new dirty little secret. Of Which that brings me to wonder about all the dark side implications of being monitored by AI or an arch enemy evil hacking competitor ... sorry I am a big sci fi fan and raised by TV...truly a game changer. Scary thought to imagine looking over at your competitor and see one mounted on his bow and he winks at you...👍

This is just useless. I've been shooting for two weeks, and I can perfectly feel what I'm doing wrong. These things are not allowed at tournaments, and should never be. A proper archer can adapt to what they're doing wrong without bending the rules around their device. It's just a novelty.
