This is a lovely piece of music My Nan was called Olwen. She was born in 1921 and today was her funeral. This was played as we entered the chapel. Perfect piece as she loved this.

I used to listen to this song in my childhood, when my parents bought a collection of songs from Reader's Digest. It was one of my favorites, like the Warsaw Concert and Cornish Rhapsody. Long live those who publish a gem like this. Eternally grateful, from Brazil.

I have not heard this piece in nearly 60 years, when we played it in concert. I am more moved by it now than I was even back then. Incredible arrangement. Wonderful!

Mantovani was amazing - he doesn't get anywhere near the props he should - beautiful sounds and arrangements. This is a top top tune.

I have loved this piece of music ever since I saw the film “While I Live” as a teenager in England. As I listen to it I visualize Cornwall and the rugged Coastline. This is the most wonderful recording of it. Thanks for putting it on You Tube

A magnificent vista at 1:39 and a wonderful melody. I just like the picture of the boat on the sea inlet and the house in the bay and the mountain scenery. No fancy castles.

Me too. I think I was about 10 when I watched the film, While I Live. I was haunted by the music and the story of Olwen for years.

I have just seen your comment. I got a shock. I thought someone has just read my mind. My older brother had this record, must have been in the 40s or 50s. He told me. There is a break in the music and that’s where she falls off the cliff. I used to wait for thir point. And 😢

Learning to play this beautiful piece again on the piano after 20 years of neglect starts so dramatically & the gentle tune drifting throughout the composition. Sadly, lacking the full orchestra in my front lounge but love music written in the minor keys, emotionally uplifting. Thank you

THE DREAM OF OLWEN (From “While I Live”) Lyrics: Winifred May - Music: Charles Williams Olwen, I hear you call to me At moonrise across a golden sea; Softly the waves make melody To wake all my song of memory. Olwen, come to me, I implore. Tell me, where shall I find you? Olwen, 'til the stars shine no more, True unto you I shall be. Deep is the blue that veils the night. The light in the west has faded, But I must pursue 'til dawn breaks through The dream I am dreaming of you, Beloved. Olwen, in the wings of the wind, Fondly your voice is calling... Calling from a world far apart, And strangely, you seem to answer The dream in my heart. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (As featured on the Music of the Stars)

This is the best arrangement by far, but I can't find it (this arrangement) on any Mantovani CDs of movie music. They are all different from each other and all are different and inferior to this arrangement. Can someone please help with the right CD for THIS arrangement of this lovely piece....please. My cat Fanny loves it so much.
@bloke3724 жыл бұрын
I do so agree. This arrangement really is the best. but then most of Mantovani's musical arrangements were.

soizic de st john rosse the Reverb is intentional..it was supposed to sound 'dreamlike' hence the title you insulting fool...and the performance is splendid...you just have a tin ear...smh...every uneducated dope has something to say...no matter how wrong they are..or stupid they sound..
@anne-mariedubois53166 жыл бұрын
I understand she is searching for a more classical sound. But I understand also the effect done by the echoes, suggesting dreamings. Both are good, I think. I have both cultures, as I am a classical pianist, but my parents were liking very much to listen to CFQR-Radio.
