OmG I've looked for years for this resolution. I despise this dang transmission. The shifting sucks and it's noisy. Thank you, thank you!! If I hear throw out bearing one more time. Now to find someone who actually can properly install the new bearing springs.

Thank you, thank you, I've changed out many clutches and never thought about the spring tension , just put a new centerforce clutch in my jk I must have bent the springs ,thank you for the video

Thanks for the info, very informative. My jeeps been doing this forever. Drives me insane. Wish it wasn’t a pia to take everything apart for just a clutch bearing that’s costs about 50$

This is exactly the problem I have! Had a bad shop replace my clutch and now I have the dreaded throwout bearing rattle. First couple miles of driving it makes no noise but after about 10-20 miles of stop/start and shifting a bit i can start hearing that exact noise. I bet the dudes who did mine bent the throwout bearing springs to make the job easier. Gonna research and put a centerforce in myself eventually.

Had exact issue. Had them replace the fork, hub , springs and nylon pivot. Whisper quiet. Good luck

A year later, after installing the bearing the correct way with ample amounts of grease and not bending the spring, is the problem solved? Appreciate your video, it all makes sense, glad somebody figured it out.

Put a dual friction clutch from centre force in a 2012 jk , no noise till after the owner went rock crawling then progressively that rattling appeared( no complaints of rattle in old clutch b4 if wore out) , then guy and I researched and found this video. Ordered all new parts as directed, no noise for a few months , went rock crawling again and now noise is back

Nice video sounds like mine and I have the centerforce clutch for my 05 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon I really like the clutch on my 600 mile transmission started hearing noise now I know the problem drives good just noise I hate I am sitting on a 6inch long arm I did think maybe it was my lift now I know what the problem is that's for the knowledgeable video for us DIY guys

I believe the core problem is not having a return spring on the clutch fork. The throwout bearing should not touch the clutch unless your foot is on the couch pedal. If the throw out bearing was not riding against the clutch, it would not have worn the collar that it rides on.

Does this apply to the TJ as well? I have a Similar noise that goes away when i push in the clutch and more recently im getting a buzz noise on take off unless im real easy on releasing the pedal on take off like REAL easy and absolutely no quick take offs

Thank you, planning on a CF clutch when mine goes out. But my jku just started making that noise 3 months after the trans was partially rebuilt by the dealer. Now I know what I need to replace when I do the clutch. That noise is annoying.

I have spent hours searching Jeep forums in search of these answers. Thanks for the video. One Question: until I redo my clutch, would it be beneficial to rig a limit strap on the clutch pedal to keep just a small bit of pressure to keep the rattling from adding extra wear on those parts? Or would that cause too much wear on the clutch plates?

My friend just put a new clutch assembly, slave and master and his still makes that noise with everything being brand new

My 2009 2-door is starting to develop this exact noise. Had clutch replaced around 95k and this evil sound showed up faintly around 100k. Sitting in neutral at red lights is beginning to sound like a diesel...Thank you for the informative video, apparently my shop didn't see this wear beginning or they bent those springs in the clutch replacement process. Will this eventually lead to a catastrophic failure of some sort or does it take a good while of rattling? I am not at the level of your 4-door rattle but...it seems to get more noticeable each day, especially in hotter months.

It seems that buying the kit from Centerforce is only half of the solution. Then you need find a qualified/competent shop to do the installation and not bend the springs.. and lube correctly. Is there a list of authorized/trained installation centers? Otherwise it sounds like the problem will reoccur even with the Centerforce clutch.

I have the opposite problem, i have a rattle with the clutch is not engaged. As soon as i engage the clutch the rattle goes away?

When you say engaged, you mean you are not pressing on the pedal, correct? The clutch is disengaged when you depress the pedal.

Mine does that but opposite with clutch. Pushed in is quiet and let off is noise

Update on the clutch. So after inspection it seems only 1 bolt was put in instead of 4 to hold clutch assembly on. It snapped off and after disassembly it took 30 min to fix and put back together. Working on getting reimbursed for parts now.

You guys need a better clutch option than the dual friction. Mine has lasted only 30,000 miles and it is slipping already. The torque rating is just too low for modified jeeps.

Got sold a jeep with zero gear oil in the transmission at all so..... Mine It makes whirling noise until the clutch is depressed and whines in first through third and in reverse it grinds when I step on the clutch. Spent thousands on parts and a rebuild of the transmission and the labor for the guy who said he would fix and its still the same. had to pay the guy despite it not being fixed. I have no idea what to do. Replaced clutch and paid someone else to rebuild the transmission on top of paying someone to "repair..." it and no results.....

Manual transmissions have been using Automatic Transmission fluid since the 90's for the most part. So your problem very may have been that someone put gear oil in it to begin with...

This is a long shot. I have 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2.0 Everything runs & drives perfect the transmission changes perfect and nothing feels different on my rear end. Well when I’m driving it’s quite other then my tires but when I let go of the gas you can hear whining noise or howling noise Once I press the brake it gets a little louder. I took it to get the rear end check and everything fine. I just can’t think of what it could be & im getting frustrated
