JCB would never have a manufacturing facility with such old technology and primitive manufacturing processes as well as the scant regard for the employee's safety and health.

Look beyond our Western H&S standards etc, and you see people who are creative with old tech, building stuff to do a job with what they have, and what really gladdens my heart is the amount of smiles you see. People who seem fairly happy in their work, doing their best, and helping each other to survive by fulfilling a real need in their community. Don't judge things by Western standards, those standards will come eventually I'm sure, look at Japan and Korea - but the real human question I suppose is, will they be any happier for it? I doubt it.

Excellent craft though, it must be said.

Maybe the title of the video is pure irony . But these people need this part for whatever reason and they are able to build it. It feeds their needs and it is absolutely great to see the manufacturing process. Everyone in our part of the world is on the comfortable side to buy it online or at a parts dealership and has not to build it under these conditions. So everyone who is critical keep calm, the brand is jic not jcb👍😎🙋🏻‍♂️ And, by the way, well done guys. Don‘ t give up and keep on building stuff✌️👍🇩🇪

I have worked in a Caterpillar factory fabricating heavy structural booms and arms of a Front end loader, excavators etc. Every piece is cut and bent to shape in a machine and not hammered and bent to fit. Using Clamps to bend, tack weld leaves residual stresses in the assembly and not a good idea. I don't think JCB buys assemblies from these shops as it wouldn't fit their quality standards. These are shops that build perhaps for the after market. Still amazing craftsmanship with just the press brake, cutting torch, card board templates and common sense. Must appreciate the extra ordinary skills these guys have and exhibit in the video.

I am sure they are using JCB as a generic term like we use Hoover for a vacuum cleaner. The name on a finished boom behind them, painted red, says JIC. What puzzles me is they had a gas torch used for cutting, why not use it to heat up the reinforcement plates they struggled to bend around each end.
@outofsightoutofmind697
@outofsightoutofmind697 Жыл бұрын
As a budget fabricator I can sympathize with them on holding off on the heat to bend the reinforcement. It cost them more to refill the oxygen and acetylene there then it does here in the states. If I'm able to bend something without having to waste the torch on it I will. It's all about the budget of the shop/ person.

@@outofsightoutofmind697 that's true. But in fact some parts need to resist fatigue load cycles, and plastic deformation (cold forming) is not always the best way to achieve that, so depends the aplication then

Retired industrial electrical/millwright contractor here with over 50 years in the trade,,,,and I am a degreeed welding engineer. In Cleveland, the welding capital of the wold, we tack up without a hood all the time. It's been done that way since day one. Fitters never use a hood just to tack. - Fact is I still run a small Weld/Fab/machine shop a few days a week and 2 days ago I was working on a prototype machine base for a client and was tacking sans hood all day. I can still pass a Jager J-2 close vision acuity test too. (Look it up) The way they built that boom is SOP for one off parts all the time. Overall everybody, makes non production weldments basically the same way they do. What I find fascinating is the similarity to a US shop. - Not the differences.
