I know the title says "hydraulic cylinder" but they clearly meant "Pneumatic" The tube wall thickness and the welds are not for a hydraulic cylinder. Also, note the cushion on the piston and the thin wall tube.
@kitramshaw5447
@kitramshaw5447 Жыл бұрын
youre a complete idiot, these are absolutely hydraulic cylinders. The wall thickness is very typical for cylinders in excavators and farm machinery. As for the welds, arc welding has better penetration than mig or tig in most cases and is fine in this application. If anything welding on a pneumatic cylinder has to be better than on a hydraulic cylinder due to having to seal gas leaks rather than thick hydraulic oil. Don't comment when you don't know what youre talking about.
@thepubliceye
@thepubliceye Жыл бұрын
@@kitramshaw5447 I was not refiring to the method of welding but the lack of preparation, no bevels all butt welds and they have a cushion on both ends, something not typically seen on hydraulic cylinders. I may not be as smart as you are but I am respectful at least.
@NESMasochist
@NESMasochist Жыл бұрын
@@thepubliceye Typically what would be the walk thickness for a pneumatic tube? I work with seals but not so much the cylinder itself. I noticed the piston u-cups seemed to urethane which would seem a little aggressive for a pneumatic application. This is a sincere question.

@thepubliceye Жыл бұрын
@@NESMasochist I agree you are correct, so it looks as though they used what they could get, I guess it's a very poor hydraulic cylinder.

@@thepubliceye I give them kudos for the fairly quick turnaround in making a cylinder but, just from I know that it doesn't look like it would last very long. The surface finish would rip those seals apart.

These things will kill someone. He destroyed the heat treatment on that rod with the torch. That entire Cylinder is compromised simply because of that but I see many other issues that are absolutely life-threatening. Imagine that cylinder is holding up several tons and the rod snaps in half because the carefully heat treated steel has been softened with a blow torch to god knows what strength. Or the seals blow and you suddenly lose pressure and your excavator arm comes crashing down because they used a rusty pipe full of dirt instead of a honed precision pipe. Or that weld breaks on the end cap shooting it across the room with 5000 psi. (5000 psi x 5sqin = 25000 lbs of force or roughly as much as a 50 BMG bullet).

@@excitedbox5705 And you should not damage the rod by rolling it against steel and ground or put it in lathe chuck without aluminium covering rod. Worst was when using lathe as a milling machine, he fasten rod with screw. Now there is screw mark on the rod. It doesn't take much to break that surface and then leaky leak. When doing thread in lathe, you should use some kind of a lubrication. Your tool will last longer. We have different standards.

When l worked in a manufacturing shop just after high school, the last 20-30 mins of each day was spent cleaning up - everything. The owner/ boss said 'let your workplace be the mark of your professionalism - if the workshop looks like a dog's breakfast, customers will think your work is as well'. Sound advice l carried throughout my career. First thing l noticed was the state of this workshop - eek!

I stop at minute 11:26. Definitely a remarkable expierience at the technical level of project execution. But I must say that the way they execute it is frightening. Ignore the most mundane safety measures... You can't work on a parallel lathe or milling machine with those garments... then so wide it's just scary! My question is, if they work with that philosophy, what will the finished product look like? With what safety do they work? I think it will be a disposable hydraulic cylinder. Working with those principles, they cannot guarantee a quality product. (Only an approximate product).
