A Little To The Left is an incredibly relaxing game about doing a bit of tidying up, and trying to figure out how best to stack a bunch of cat toys. It's lovely.

The thing in the cutlery drawer that you couldn't identify is a tea strainer. You press the metal bars together, the round strainer part opens so you can put in loose tea, and then you just put that in the cup of hot water.

Someone needs to make a horror game version of this where you start off with this pleasant symmetry with "a place for everything and everything in its place". I like the "Let It Be" option. But this also opens up a whole new world to me, that it needs an online connection so that if enough people "Let It Be" in related ways that an AI then says, "You know what, that must be a valid solution" and it creates an player's choice star. I'm astounded that a. Jon doesn't know what a fondue fork is, b. Jon doesn't know what a tea ball is, and c. Jon apparently doesn't buy flatware sets that have salad/desert forks. But yes, I agree that the measuring spoons DEFINITELY should stack. Or be on a ring to keep them together, in order of size.

That dessert fork is called a salad fork, my dude. Also known as the superior fork for all uses
@pdughi
@pdughi Жыл бұрын
They're salad forks, though also often used as desert forks. They come in a set when you get fancy silverwear, like when you're married. (round) knife, mains fork, salad fork, spoon is the default, plus soup spoon sometimes. If you're someplace where they're actually cheap, but trying to pretend to be fancy, they'll also stick a steak knife in too, but those are almost always separate in 'real' packs. There ARE desert forks (and desert spoons as well) but they're even smaller. Used to be called 'cake forks' but now occasionally called 'cocktail forks' - and often mistaken for your oyster or shrimp fork (aka, seafood fork, but only for use with shellfish) which is a separate thing. Speaking of things they used to do, they also used to have salad knives. Fancy places still do, but they don't actually expect you to use them - after all salads used to be finger food. But they don't do full plating anyway, they bring you the silverwear for your meal and whisk it away when that portion is done. You might also see a butter knife if you have a bread plate, and a teaspoon for, you guessed it, tea. Though normally the tea spoon is more a feature of high tea than a meal. Gone are the separate fish knife vs. meat knife though - everyone just provides what you'd consider a steak knife. And absolutely NONE of this makes ANY sense and it's completely stupid and the only reason for any of it is to impress people and give the servers something to talk about that is casually interesting and not weather related ... from someone who had to occasionally provision a formal dinner or two.
@CliveWolfe
@CliveWolfe Жыл бұрын
Yes, my mum has actual desert forks, they are smaller, but one of the prongs is shaped more knife like
@pdughi
@pdughi Жыл бұрын
@@CliveWolfe Ah, yes, that's specifically for cake, to remove the need for a separate cake knife. The left-most prong is a bit thicker and has a notch, to be used by right-handers to cut a piece of cake out with it. We can blame high tea for that one too I think, in an effort to keep things slightly more casual when you're not expected to have a full wait staff.
@NixHarpinger
@NixHarpinger Жыл бұрын
I don't think dessert forks are useless. And I'm note even a big foodie, nor do I eat tons of cakes or pies, but I still find them useful. The left "blade" of the fork is thinner and wider so it cuts neatly into let's say a chocolatey crust so doesn't smoosh up the cake. And it makes the whole thing feel a bit more special too, cos I don't use them for anything else really, so when I *do* have a slice of cake with those little forks it just feels grand.

While it might also not be the intended solution, the best way to organise eggs in the carton is to put them in the middle if you put eggs on the door or on the forward facing end if putting it on a shelf sideways. The reason for this is to balance the weight. For six eggs, you fill the four middle spaces. Then, the two extra eggs you put on opposite sides of middle with one egg in the front sit and one in the back slot. The idea is that when you grab the eggs from the end, the weight will be on the end you grab, while you're more likely to grab the middle of the carton when removing it from a door shelf. By balancing the weight in this way, there's far less chance of accidentally dropping the carton.

You would think an egg carton would understand balancing an egg carton, but no

16:42 This triggered me so bad. You need to keep the eggs orientated around the center so you can't grab the wrong end and have the carton fall out of your hand because one side was weighted more than the other!! Anything else is blasphemy.

As soon as you said you can come up with your own solution I was sold. The one downside I had for Unpacking and why I never finished it was that it had intended solutions. Not a problem for some things, but a good number of items had very specific places that weren't intuitive. This is much better to my mind in that regard.

I haven't played Unpacking myself, but apparently there is an option that would let you place things anywhere.
