It's been about 6 years that I've used my HyperX Cloud 2 with its mic, and I believe this is a suitable change. Awesome video

I actually bought this exact mic yesterday and it arrives tomorrow. This is my first review I've watched about it and I'm surprised that it sounds so good - for the price! I bought it for work, not streaming/gaming so it didn't matter if it sounded professional or not but wow. I'm surprised how good it is :)

Great review Tobias, just ordered mine off Amazon. My order was I think the older version of the packaging cause it’s not horizontal and without the pop filter, but no worries. Straight to the point, beautiful. Keep up the good work. Wish you good luck on your youtube channel!

Good vid - thank you. I was recently given this exact mic, and used it for the first time a couple of nights ago. I had the same experience as you; I was pretty surprised by the performance of this thing. It's really quite good - and certainly all that I need.

Hi Tobias! Thanks for the review. I bought mine recently and I tried to connect it to my phone using an adapter to record instruments. But then the audio seems to be wonky like the pitch shifts/bends in the recording. Any idea what is wrong? Thank you!

Hey great review! I'm about to start a new semester zoom teaching and was I was planning to buy the Maono AU-PM421T. Then I saw your awesome review. The only difference I can see in the specs is the mute button. Have you compared the Maono AU-PM461TR with the 421 or do you know what the difference is? The price difference is quite a bit.

Thanks for the amazing review, you made me switch from a more expensive choice and saved me some money :D One question tho: did you do some postprocessing on the audio from the Maono mic or in the video we simply hear 'pure', unprocessed sound? I'm just wondering because it sounds super cool and loud in your review but I've seen some others where it doesn't sound this good..

@@TobiasHolenstein Well, I can send you a video but there is no, well, video, just a guy talking in Polish for 30s about the specification of the mic: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jruna9N526fQfIE.html I think this is the worst one I found. There is also this one: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jd10m66Xt7-cqnU.html where the guy uses this mic in like the half of the video, then uses a couple different ones only to come back to the Maono one and it sounds.. Really weird, it's around the 6:30min. And last but not least: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMlnaqRkrsvZiXk.html I'm not sure what I don't like about this one, it just sounds.. differently for me in comparison to what you've shown in your video. Thanks for your time! :)

@@bellum1410 Ok cool, so in the first one, personally, I think it sounded pretty similar to mine. I think he might have just been a little further away from the mic or something. Then in the second video it looks like he is using the Maono mic at around 2:38 and it sounds good, then at 6:30 where you pointed out, I agree it does sound weird, but the weird thing is, is that I almost feel like he might have accidentally recorded with a different mic or something, because it kind of sounds like he recorded it with a stereo mic, like his voice isn't completely mono. So I have a feeling that it isn't actually the Maono mic at 6:30. Maybe he mixed up his audio files or something. In the last video I think the issue is that he kind of had the mic off to the left so he wasn't speaking straight at it, but then at around 3:30 in the video he is testing it out while playing a game and he has it positioned better and up on a stand and I think it sounds a lot better at that part. So I think in the end, it just kind of has to do with how you position the mic and how far away you are from it. I hope that helps!

That's a tough one. Personally I think I would probably go with the Maono Au-A04 mostly because it comes with both the tripod stand and the arm stand, but if I was on a tighter budget then yeah I would go for the Maono AU-PM461TR. In my opinion the Au-A04 sounds a little warmer, but very very clean, and the AU-PM461TR sounds a little more sensitive in the higher frequencies, which is fine too. It's just personal preference. Hey! Excellent detailed review! Thank you! I have a somewhat unusual task. I need to record 10-80 kHz ultrasound (animal voice), and the analog-to-digital converter of this MAONO PM461TR microphone should be up to the task. Could you make a test recording of 192 kHz / 24 bit? Just shake a bunch of iron door keys so that they jingle in front of the microphone, and put the resulting wav file somewhere without processing.

Great video! Because of you, I've decided to buy this. Although you mentioned that you haven't done any audio post-processing, which software do you usually use in case you intend to? I'm getting started with KZfaq, and I wanted to know which audio editor you use or recommend. Audacity, OBS, etc.?

Thank you! Enjoy your new mic. I record into Logic Pro, but for basic stuff Audacity is probably ok. If you have an Apple computer, it should have GarageBand on it, which is pretty good. I've downloaded OBS, but I haven't really used it yet, but that would probably also be ok.

Tobias, you were correct about USB C OTG working. My final issue is, when I plug in the mic using the OTG, the headphones completely stopped working. I've tried blue tooth buds, wired headset and wired headset plugged into a splitter. This issue occurs with everything ranging from Skype to Open Camera. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have a question. Since this mic doesn't have a direct monitoring capability, are there concerns when you're listening to yourself through your laptop? Is there a split sec delay or change of output sound? Still learning here. Thanks Tobias!

Yeah there is a very slight delay (compared to zero latency monitoring), but it's not really noticeable. Maybe just by a few milliseconds or something.

Hi Thea, what you will need to do is plug your headphones into your computer and then in whatever software you are using you record, you need to enable software monitoring. Hope that helps! If you have any other questions or need more help feel free to let me know!

what is your whole streaming setup? are you running osb? I'm a music guy who is trying to get a decent setup for some pods I've been invited to do. I don't want to deal with my interface and trying to treat the room. thought? It doesn't seem noisy at all for a condenser.

Thank you for subscribing! 🙂As for a shock mount there are some "universal" shock mounts that will fit a variety of microphones, but I don't think there is one specifically for this mic. I would probably recommend going with the type of shock mount that works like a clamp. I found this one on Amazon amzn.to/3lGns39 I haven't personally tried it, but it looks very similar to some of the shock mounts that were included in some of the mic kits I got from Amazon. It might even be the same one. I also measured the diameter of the mic and it looks like it will fit. I tried out one of the shock mounts that I have and the gain knob on the front of the mic even fits in the opening of the clamp. You can even take off the elastic bands from the shock mount and turn the clamp around and put the bands back on so the opening is in the front of the shock mount instead of the back. That last part was a little hard for me to explain, I hope that made sense lol

Since it picks up your fish tank, does it pick up sounds that are further away? Are you able to turn the gain down and speak closer to it so that it won't pick up other sounds? Is it possible to use this microphone with desktop speakers?

what is your recommended gain knob position for this microphone? planning to use for discord. Would also appreciate to hear your insights with what input volume setting on discord for best quality of audio

I don't personally have experience with discord, I'll have to try it out one of these days, but I would say as long as you turn the knob up enough so your voice can be heard, that should be fine. Just make sure your voice isn't clipping and you should be good.

I'm not sure if higher gain picks up background noise/hiss? Krisp/RTX Voice in Discord might work very well against that. So you should try playing around with how far you are and how much you want. You might need to increase your gain. I'm just guessing, as I'm thinking about getting this mic for myself. Consider using voicemeter banana with VSTs if you have enough CPU cycles to spare.
