Proud to be a Swede and proud to see how Maple Leafs and Canada represent them selves.

Could have heard a pin drop - total silence. Leafs fan since the 60s and played minor hockey during his early years - as a defenceman I wanted his number but it was spoken for. This clip took me back to that time - deeply moving and I am so glad that the Leafs and the fans were so respectful. His salute just a short time before when he came to drop the puck broke me down. That night Keefe's starting line-up from forwards back to the goalie were all Swedes. It is no lie to say that it was Salming that made that possible - in no small way.

RIP Salming. You will be missed.

i had the pleasure of meeting Borje, while drunk at real sports, he grilled me a bit, but signed a doug gilmour jersey i was wearing after i had a chat with him, and told him how he was my dad's favourite player and i heard about him all the time as a kid. ...such a good man.

i went to toronto and his stuff wasnt there yet. but before i left, i saw a puck with his face on it, i bought the puck and gave it to my dad. He was close to sheddig tears as memories watching his came and flashed before his eyes. watching him as a child skating on the ice and help give the maple leafs history

It can't be overestimated how hard it was for Swedes to adopt to American hockey, they were used to "the play" and not at all with the physical parts as means of winning. As such, a lot of Swedes got the hell tackled out of them over and over, especially as outsiders, to peg them down. He had over 116(!) stitches done in his FACE from all the injuries. But Börje was of the old guard, the greater generation, so he just sucked it up and kept moving forward. He had such work ethic, team-comradery and principles that even his opponents ended up respecting and venerating him. There's a reason this village-guy from tiny Sweden is being honoured halfway across the globe: He earned every part of it. If you want tears, I recommend his last appearance at the Swedish sports-awards. Where the entire ensemble end up giving him a standing ovation to both Börje's and half the crowd's tears. Keep in mind Sweden has one of the worlds highest WM/Olympic medals per capita so there's a fuckton of literal titans of sports in that crowd and they still pay their respects to Börje, as he deserved. RIP Börje.

They were talking about him on the red wings game cuz he played his final pro season in Detroit, & Mickey Redmond who’s not much of an emotional guy was trying hard not to cry cuz he knew Borje played against him and everyone in hockey considered him a friend because he was the ultimate team player but Mickey said he spoke with idk if it was shanahan or sittler it was someone popular within the leafs organization, and they said when he got diagnosed it was uncontrollable like it was one of those rare ALS cases where it went to his lungs immediately and that’s why he didn’t live for 2 to 4 years. At least he’s not suffering anymore though he went home to be with the lord, and with some of his colleagues that played in Toronto, korolev, Armstrong, coach punch imlach guys that he played with or knew off the ice. I think he’s professional hockey’s first ALS casualty sadly, just I want everyone to know that ALS right now theirs no cure will their ever be one I think eventually their will be, but it really is sad though, I hope Borje has found peace in those pearly gates.

I’m heartened Leafs gave Borje the tribute, but maybe it’s just me being a traditionalist and bigger Borje fan than most, but I reckon he deserved more than 21 seconds silence, I would have given him a FULL MINUTE - as tradition dictates - and not cheapen out and short-change him.. Probably a good thing Bobby Orr was never a Leaf, MLSE would logically give him a 4 second memorial - sponsored by FanDuel.
